First , there are many types of bourbon, and many bourbon drinkers are very set on their perferences!. This makes it hard to serve bourbon at parties as you have to have mulitple bottles on hand!. This is somewhat true of other spirits, but more so with bourbon and scotch (which are both forms of whiskey)
Second, bourbon has a more pronounced taste than does vodka and gin, so it comes through a mixer more!. Some people like that, however, many like the fact that vodka doesn't overpower the mix!.
Three, bourbons, due to the more pronounced flavor, tend to say on your breath longer!. Most people do not want that!. In fact, Smirnoff used to have an advertising campaign that said 'Smirnoff leaves you breathless" referring to the lack of alcohol on your breath!.
