Can a vegetarian eat chicken flavored soup?!

Question:

Can a vegetarian eat chicken flavored soup?

Answers:
i'm vegetarian and i eat it. if they are an incredibly strict sort of vegetarian they probably won't. but most of us let stuff like that slide.

personal experience

If the flavoring is chemically- rather than organically-based, yes. However, most chicken flavoring is based on chicken broth.

depends upon the base in the soup if it says flavored its no where near any chickens but chichen base is almost all salt

no

no,it doesn't have meat but it has meat powder to give it the flavor or it uses chicken stock or broth.

I never have, do you mean chicken broth or just the flavor? Because if its just the flavor of chicken, and its not actually not a chicken product I do not think there is anything wrong with it. My tofu turkey had some kind of turkey esscence in it.

Well.... it really depend from the vegetarian!! some vegetarian eat eggs, and some other don't drink milk.....

yes

of course

a vegetarian can eat anything they want. =)

Someone who doesn't eat meat can eat it.. but they really shouldn't call themself a vegetarian.. Just someone that prefers not to eat meat/doesn't like meat.

There should be no "rules." Do whatever you want.. My dad annoys me with this. "You know, vegetarians are allowed to eat fish.." trying to get me to eat fish. Uh.. vegetarians are "allowed" to make their own fricken choices..

yes if its just flavored although you might have to check on the label to find out if it has any ingredients of chicken. like chicken broth its just a soup with veggies.

Yes, because it is just a bunch of chemicals, it isnt really chicken. It is jsut flavored that way. Trust me I use to be a vegetarian.

It really depends on how strict a person is about being a vegetarian. Some do and some don't.

not if its flavored with real chicken juices. unless you know a way of getting the juice from the chicken without killing it

If you are looking for technicalities to get around vegetarianism then just eat the chicken. Having chicken broth defeats the spirit of being a vegetarian.

If the person is a vegetarian who also avoids hidden animal products such as beef and chicken stocks, lard, and gelatin. The broth should be made with vegetarian chicken broth or vegetable broth. Here is a recipie:

BASIC “CHICKEN” BROTH

recipes calling for chicken stock, and as a basis for
chickenless noodle or rice soup.

For a basic “chicken” gravy, use the above recipe,
stirring in flour at medium to low heat until desired
thickness is reached. Delicious over mashed potatoes,
stuffing and rice.

No, If a chicken died for it and you are a true veg.

Clue: you can eat ANYTHING you want to.

Read the ingredients. If chicken is part of the ingredients, then no. If it is not, then yes.

depends what kind of vegetarian you are if you are an ovo-lacto vegetarian you eat chickens, eggs and dairy products..

if the flavouring is made from real chicken, then no.
if the flavouring is merely a chemical that isn't derived from actual chicken, then sure.

i eat chicken soup that is made with a chemical to reproduce the 'chicken' flavour. it's just as good as the real thing. in fact, better, cos there's no guilt from the death of an animal

oh, and Laura S is wrong.
if you're an ovo-lacto vegetarian, you eat eggs and dairy, but NOT chicken, as it is still a meat.

I don't unless someone forgets to tell me or I forget to read the label.

Most chicken flavored soup has chicken fat in it so it is not vegetarian. If you read labels, you will also find that most national brand soups have animal products. You are safe with Amy's soups and making your own soup using vegetable stock and broth and there is a "no Chicken" broth made by Imagine (I think) that can be found in health stores and natural markets.

Sometimes they contain chicken fats, but sometimes it is just chemical flavourings. Check the ingredients, & when in doubt, don't eat it.

Some will but most won't.

i'm a veg and i used to eat top ramen until i found out there is actually ground up chicken in the flavoring. i say go ahead as long as there isn't any real animal in the soup.

yeah

If you eat chicken, you arent vegetarian. The idea is not to eat animals. By eating chicken based soups you are creating a demand for chicken carcasses. I stopped eating Baked Lays because they have chicken fat in them. Yuck!
