Can I call myself a vegetarian if I eat this?!

Question: Can I call myself a vegetarian if I eat this!?
I've been a pretty solid vegetarian for the past nine months!. I haven't slipped but I've had meat twice since then, just to make sure I was making the right choice and actually wanted to stick to it and I'm convinced I've made the right choice!. Hopefully, I'll be a vegetarian forever!.

My problem is that I'm not sure if I can classify myself as a complete vegetarian!. Though I totally stopped eating jello and marshmallows, I can't help but eat fruit snacks occasionally which contain gelatin in them!.

Any suggestions for an alternative or way I can completely cut them out!? If I continue to eat them, am I basically not a vegetarian!?

Sweetie, with the exception of Yahoo Groups members, there are no veggie police!. There are many reasons people become vegetarians, so it's up to you if you want to cheat and have gelatin now and then, but if you found eating meat gross I don't know how you can eat gelatin!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can call yourself a part time vegetarian!.
Whether you are a vegetarian or a part time meat eater, you must eat fresh fruit and vegetable for the antioxidants and enzymes!.
There's no point being vegan and not eating fruit and vegetables!. You'll save the animals but you won't save yourself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, that would indeed make you non-vegetarian!. The irony is that the likes of alginates can easily replace gelatin, and marsh mallows in the sense of Althaea officinalis roots, i!.e!. the original marsh mallow, are vegan, but marshmallows never are!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes you can say you are a vegetarian!.

if you see stear (stearic acid or magnesium stearate) or glycerides in the ingredients it is animal fat

there is vegan marshmallows that taste good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

be flexitarian!. this means you have a pretty stable vegetarian diet, and occasionally eat meat!. if you only have "slipped up" twice, i'd be pretty confidant calling myself that if i were you!. FLEXI AND PROUD!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They do make fruit snacks w/o gelatin you just have to look around!.

yogurt contains gelatin!.
starburst, poptart frosting, junior mints, nerds rope!.!.!.

beef fat used to be in hostess it ma still be in some products!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No one is perfect what matters is that you're eating MUCH LESS meat-- you know they kill bugs to make grain right!? Are you going to stop eating that!?

You might want to cut it out in the long run but don't stress!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't worry about classifications and just eat as healthily as you can!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think so cause you are aware you're eating something that has an animal product!. If it were unintentionally say you didn't check the package then yeah!.

Skittles, pop tarts, starburst!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

not everyone is perfect

a little gelatin here or there doesn't really hurt anything!.!.!.!.except, of course, the animals that were killed to make it!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You know you wont go to vegetarian heaven and you will come back as a cow!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

u r vegetarian
just look for vegan fruit snacks and vegan marshmalowsWww@FoodAQ@Com

I just wonder why is it so important to "classify" yourself!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not all vegetarians are COMPLETE vegetarians!. Some eat gelatin or even eggs and milk!.

The question is: Are you a vegetarian because it's more healthy to eat mostly vegetables!? Or are you a vegetarian because you have moral scruples that its cruel to eat animals!?

If you're the former, well it -is- more healthy to eat mostly veggies, but a marshmallow or some jello once in a while won't hurt you at all!.

If you have moral principles against eating animals, then you're a vegan and you would also avoid wearing leather, using soaps that have animal fat in them, and all that, right!?

I do know some vegans, and also some 'ovo-lacto vegetarians' who occasionally have a slice of cheese or an egg!. I don't have a problem with either one!. I eat meat, even though I know it's less healthy, 'cos I like it!Www@FoodAQ@Com
