All are equally good!. In fact there is absolutely no reason not to keep your standard diet!.
No matter what you eat you just need to make sure you get enough calories to function (if trying to loose weight this will mean reduced caloric intake) as well as proper vitamins and nutrients (especially protein)!.
The main advantage of going vegan/vegetarian is a lack of red meat, which CAN be a little bad for you if you eat too much!. the whole point (from a nutritional perspective) is that you are substituting where you get your protein from!. Meat is typically the most efficient protein source (meat is muscle, and muscle is made of the amino acids that form protein) but not always the most healthy, and can be had from other vegetable based sources!.
The advantage of Atkins is the lack of carbohydrates and starches (bread, pasta, potatoes)!. Carbs tend to be full of calories and not much in the way of nutrients or anything else useful!. You're body also seems to develop a natural craving for carbs as well (this is where the Chinese food story comes into play!. Eat Chinese food and an hour later you are hungry again)!. Atkins keeps you from eating carbs at all!. After about two weeks you will no longer crave them at all, and as a result will notice a decrease in apatite and food intake!. This lowers the number of calories you take in and all weight loss is, is the burning of more calories each day then you take in by eating!. ie: eating only 1000 calories a day, but using 2000 means you had to convert 1000 calories worth of fat stores into energy!. This sort of effect over time results in weight loss!.
So to return to my first paragraph, you can keep a fairly normal diet if you like!. For what!? The purpose of losing weight!? The healthiest is to eat three meals a day with adequate portions, and love your veggies and fruits!.
Have you visited the grocery store lately to try fresh foods from fruits to veggies!? At our local Safeway, the produce manager, I called him out, he introduced me to five different pear families, sliced them, and let me try them!. One was AWESOME, the others were ok!.
Look into foods you like in fresh produce for veggies and fruits, try things you've never tasted before!. There are a TON of different apples on the market!. I hate them all except for Gala Apples, my husband only eats Granny Smith apples, my mom only red apples!. They all have different flavors, textures, and skin consistencies!
Experiement, and find what you like that is healthy!. I HATE baby carrots, and raw carrots unless with dip, but I LOVE cooked carrots glazed in olive oil with Italian seasoning!.
I HATE green beans unless they are served with stewed tomatos (and I HATE tomatos! I HATE TOMATOES unless it's ketchup)!.
You need to experiment with veggies and fruits, even within pears - my daughter LOVES red pears, but hates Bartlett, etc!. You can find a slew of healthy stuff you would love to snack on by experimenting and visiting a good local grocery store!. Mandarin oranges - my daughter LOVES THEM - but hates regular naval oranges!
You asked what is the healthiest and most effective, I say to you - eating healthy for your taste buds!. Even Salads!. Toss in red and colored greens for a salad, that gives more nutriion and flavor than a plain ice berg lettuce!. Experiment with salad dressings, and more!
It's not a question of whether being a Vegan, Vegetarian, or Diet fads will help!. It's about what is healthy, and experimenting, and trying all the healthy veggies and fruits out there, and knowing how to make them taste good if you don't like them raw!. There is more to life than carrots dipped in Ranch dressing!.

The first answerer Diane G is absolutely right!. Whole foods, plant based diets are the healthiest!. If you ever go to the library look up "The China Study"!. It will shock you!! Dr!. Campbell compiled over 30 years of diet research in China and Taiwan and found that heart attacks, stroke, high cholesterol, and some cancers are extremely rare because they eat a diet rich in plant proteins and complex carbohydrates!.
