Most edible things on the planet are not derived from animals!. All vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, and legumes are completely safe for a strict vegetarian, as you seem to want to be!.

The problem people have is that they don't consider things like "proper" diet or "nutrition!." This is a problem with people who do eat meat as well (most overweight people are omnivores), but people freak out about it with vegetarians!. What you need to do is get well-rounded nutrition, and pick nutrient-dense foods!. Opt for spinach instead of lettuce, sweet potatoes instead of regular ones, brown rice over white rice!. There's nothing wrong with lettuce, white potatoes, or white rice, but they do lack the nutrition in their darker counterparts!.

When cooking or making salads/sandwiches, always remember to add something else!. Instead of making pasta with spaghetti noodles and marinara, use whole grain noodles and add things like fresh tomatoes, sauteed onion/garlic, fresh or dried herbs, sliced zuccini and/or yellow squash, diced carrots, kale, etc!. to the marinara!. This not only gives you a much more satisfying meal, but ensures that yes, you are getting your nutritional requirements!.

There are vegetarian versions of almost every meal you can think of (really!)!. “Veg up” your favorite recipes simply by replacing the meat!. Here are some ideas:

Replace the beef in burritos with beans and grilled veggies, or try vegetarian beef crumbles from Morningstar Farms or Boca!.
Top baked potatoes with margarine, vegan sour cream, soy bacon bits (Bacos are vegan!), or salsa!.
Make homemade pizza with soy cheese (or just skip the cheese and add extra garlic and spices), meatless pepperoni, and vegetable toppings!.
Create a Mexican dip for tortilla chips with refried beans, salsa, guacamole, and diced peppers and onions!.
Make spaghetti with marinara sauce and add roasted vegetables or veggie meatballs (try Nate’s brand or Gimme Lean sausage-style)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Please be sure to always check labels to make sure there are no hidden animal products!. If possible avoid eating out!. You can eat a lot of foods!. Rice and Beans are always easy!. also if you search the internet you will find plenty of good recipes!. also if you believe in God remember we wont be eating meat in heaven so why not get ready now!. And if not you will still become more healthyWww@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not a veg!. but I am an avid supporter of prevention of animal cruelty!. I eat meat and firmly believe that it is ok to eat meat!. As log as the animal is killed in a quick and less painless way!. I am a memeber of PETA, and alot of those videos are extremly harsh!. My brother on the other hand, is vegetarian!. He will eat animal by products!.!.ie!.!.!.!.!.eggs, and cheese!. He drinks soy milk, which is very good btw!. He eats boca bugers sausage and burritos, veggie burgers, salads, four cheese pizza on wheat crust!. mexican with no meats!. alot of pasta and sauce, no added meat!. mac n chees!. you can really eat alot of things!. you can eat beans for your protien too!. Anyhow, good luck hunny!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

How is killing someone unnecessarily not inherently cruel!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Bet you won't turn into a veggie person, i tried and it didn't work!. I still would like to attempt bt my mom says i don't get enough iron or protein already!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

you "can" eat a ton of stuff-there are almost endless varieties of fruits/veggies!.

this is why vegetarianism should be left to the hard core!.

I wasn't going to answer this, but considering one of the responses already give, I suppose I will!.

There are far too many sources available on the Internet for me to even begin talking about here!. PETA, actually has a veggie starter kit they will happily send you as well!. Do a bit of research and you'll find more than just the ones I list below:

http://veganfreak!.com/
http://vegweb!.com/
http://www!.vegetariantimes!.com/

One key point to bring up is that you need to make sure you don't just cut out meat from your diet!. You need to replace it with something and supplement it with other foods!. Sticking with whole grain items such as breads, pastas and cereals instead of the bleached white flour products (White bread, plain pasta, plain bagels, etc!.) are a start!.

And to counter the above argument about being weaker!.!.!. it's a half-truth!. You can actually become more fit, healthier and overall stronger than many others who are confined to the limits of meat eating!. I can start naming vegan and vegetarian athletes for days if I wanted to!. They key is, whether or not you exercise!.

I managed to pass some rigorous firefighter training as a vegan!. Then again, I suppose I'm just a protein deprived weakling who should just keel over and drop to the ground before I crush my own leg bones with my own weight!.!.!. :-/Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, I've been a vegetarian for almost a decade now and it started just because, yeah I was grossed out by it!. Make sure that you're not just doing it because you feel temporarily awful, then you'll crave it sooner or later and everyone will make fun of you for giving up so quickly!. My friend became a vegetarian after meeting me because she said she was doing research and she felt bad, but everytime we went out to eat, she would order things that had meat in it and I would have to tell her she couldn't eat it!. Eventually, after 3 months, she gave up!.

To be a healthy vegetarian, it's easier to take supplementary vitamins and then definitely make sure you're getting enough protein or else you'll lose your self will and become fat!. Protein sources; protein shakes from powders, protein bars, cereal with lots of protein, veggie burgers, TOFU, nuts, there's bread with lots of protein in it!.!.!.!.the list continues!.
People give us a hard time, but we eat everything they do except ONE!.
There are hundreds of types of vegetarian foods and only 4 real types of meat!.!.!.vegetarians have the upper hand!!
Plus, we're less likely to die from associated conditions with carnivores!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Any one who says Vegeterians or Vegans are not as healthy as the rest of the people who do eat cows and pigs are WRONG !. Completely and utterly wrong !. Unless of course the Veg person is not doing it properly !. !. Humans generally consume way to much protien !. Being Veg you don't even have to worry about protien ! as long as you know your eating it , its not that big of a concern !

I would suggest that you read Skinny ***** by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin !. It is a really good book , and you can skip past the dieting pages to the Vegan pages !.

what you can't eat being vegeterian !.

Casein—Whey's cousin, casein is made from curdled milk!. Yuck!

Gelatin—Rhymes with "skeleton!." Coincidence!? I think not!. Gelatin is a protein made by boiling cows' and pigs' skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones!. Jell-O!? Hell, no!

Honey—Sure, honey tastes sweet, but you'll get a bad taste in your mouth when you learn how it's "harvested!."

From a former beekeeper: "[T]ypically, beekeepers are gloved and netted to avoid stings (nearly every bee who stings will die due to her entrails being pulled from her body attached to her stinger!.) Then the hives are opened as quickly as possible and the bees are ‘smoked!.' Smoke from a smoldering fire carried in a ‘smoker' is pumped into the hive and the bees are ‘calmed!.' In spite of this, the combs are pulled quickly and many bees are crushed in the process!. When a bee is hurt, she releases a chemical message that alerts and activates the hive members who proceed to attack the intruder—giving their lives in the process!."

Lard—Lard is such a gross word, it almost makes you wonder why they just don't call it what it is: "Fat from hog abdomens!."

Pepsin—If the thought of eating lard turns your stomach, stay away from pepsin, a clotting agent from pigs' stomachs, used in some cheeses and vitamins!.

Rennet—Certain words just make you cringe, like coagulate, congeal, clot—which is what rennet, an enzyme taken from baby calves' stomachs, is used for in cheese production!.

Stearic Acid—It may sound less gross than "lard," but stearic acid, which often rears its ugly head in chocolate and vitamins, comes from a fatty substance taken from slaughtered pigs' stomachs—or from cows, sheep, or dogs and cats euthanized in animal shelters!. Still want to chew on that piece of Fido!?

Cetyl Palmitate—Check your head if you're using margarine that contains cetyl palmitate, the fancy term for the waxy oil derived from sperm whales' heads or from dolphins!. "I can't believe it's not !.!.!. oh, wait!. It is!? Whale head wax!?"

Urea—Urea comes from piss and other "bodily fluids!." It's used to "brown" baked goods, like pretzels!. Um, yeah!. And the oven is for !.!.!.!?

When going to any convenience store, take a look around and see what other food services they offer!. Often, you can get made-to-order sandwiches and salads!. For instance, Speedway gas stations can make up MTO veggie wraps and sandwiches, and you can also snag bagels, garlic fries (minus the cheese), and cheese-free nachos!.

as long as your food doesnt include those ingredients you can eat about anything ! its great !.
I just have to tell you , I have never been healthier or happier in my life !. Becoming Vegan was the best decision of my life !.!.!. well except for when I went on a camping trip at my school !. they left all of my special vegan friendly food on the bus , so I had to steal my friends apples for the next five days !.!.!.!. but that was my own fault LOLWww@FoodAQ@Com

theoretically
no matter how hard you try vegetarians are less fit then the rest of us omnivores
because of lack of meat
many nutrients can be supplemented but theres just something about meat!.
i cant stop eating it but i eat less nd i think there should be laws on how these animals are treated
i believe america and other countries need to start passing animal inspections and making sure this cruel treatment is stoppedWww@FoodAQ@Com
