The vast majority of high quantity food production in the US is harmful to the environment!.
Most of it is produced in monocultures that are primarily fertilized with chemical that cause run-off and drinking water contamination, etc!. Monocultures deplete the land of nutrients and often result in increase in disease as well as decrease of natural insect populations, etc!. Then, of course, there's the heavy use of pesticides!.

The rise in numbers of people who want organic foods has sometimes resulted in a rise of what is called "Industrial Organic"!. Often times Industrial Organic production is as harmful or more harmful than other non-organic industrial production practices!. Organic doesn't hold the same meaning as it used to!. Particularly since the USDA was put in charge of defining it (with the help of the industrial farms, as usual)

You could certainly make the argument that if being environmentally friendly is what you're after, there is definitely a better way to go about vegetarianism than by supporting industrial food production (even of vegetables)!. One way would be by buying from local farmers markets, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, maybe it does and it don't harm the environment!. It harms because, you are a herbivore and herbivores only eat vegetable and plants!. also, by only eating vegetables and plants, you can reduce the factor of plants and vegetables!. Some animals eat plants and if there aren't ant plants the animals will die and, no animal means no meat!. It benefits because, your bones can get stronger and stronger!. This is the basic reason why!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

crop production requires the use of water,in a drought the amount of water that is available grows scarce, therefore crops cannot produce the amounts needed to sustain the needs of the public!.in order to get max yields from acreage the crop has to have pest and weed control therefore insecticides and pesticides need to be sprayed on the fields and this causes contamination of open water and ground water and neighboring fields and air quality decreases,by diverting water to water sheds for the crops can drain wetlands that wildlife depend on!.agriculture is highly dependent on non renewable energy most notable is petroleum!.air quality is damaged by smoke from burning agricultural waste, dust from tillage, traffic from the harvest, pesticide drift from spraying, nitrous oxide emissions from nitrogen fertilizer!.soil erosion is a serious threat because of runoff and the damage that comes from flooding leaching pesticides, insecticides from the ground leading to drinking water supplies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It does not harm the environment!. It takes about 10 - 16 pounds of grain to make 1 pound of beef!. This means 10 - 16 times as much transportation, nitrous oxide and a lot more methane!.

Livestock is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, more than all types of transportation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The only thing I can think of is they put all the cage free eggs in plastic boxes instead of cardboard!. Those little plastic tofu trays aren't very good for the environment either!. You would think that all veggie type stuff would be packed in environmentally friendly packaging!.
Www@FoodAQ@Com

it doesn't!. but you can make up that it does b/c of all the extra veggies that are grown, like clearing land to plant more!.

although cattle factories are much much MUCH more harmful!.

plus the use of pesticides on the environment!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you live somehwere where the farmers can only grow grain and raise animals you end up eating plants from all over the world to make up for not eating any local meat!. Tranporting stuff from around the world is rarely good for the enviroment!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

If no one ate meat the animal population would explode into unmanageable numbers!. That would eat the vegetation we would need for survival!. They would probably start eating people as well!. If everyone decided to be veggies- the human population would die out!. I will do my part by eating enough meat to cover myself and two vegetarians!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Animals put off CO2 and Methane, therefore they are bad for the environment, therefore they should be eaten/reduced to sustainable levels!.

I really have no idea but it's kind of an interesting take on the issue!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

um!.!.!. mabey!.!.!.!.
because you use a lot of other resorces!. like you use up a lot of the vegtables and soy and stuff that could be used for animals!? idk! thats a tough question!.!.!. srry i know this prob!. doesnt help :-XWww@FoodAQ@Com

well first there is vegetables needed for medicine so if vegeterians keep demanding vegetables there may be less cures to diseaesesWww@FoodAQ@Com
