I really want to become a vegetarian but....?!

Question: I really want to become a vegetarian but!.!.!.!.!?
My parents really don't want me to!. I want to because I just can't stand thinking that what I'm eating, came from a animal, plus I've wanted to be a Vet sence 3rd grade!.
I don't want to be one that sometimes eats fish!.!.!. mainly because I think fish is gross!.!. & I normally only eat chicken from KFC but I saw a video from PETA & that stoped me right there (I don't want any comments from you about PETA cause I know how people can get with them)!.
I tryed a year ago but my parents just kept at me!. I really don't care what they think & I'm only 13 so I guess I have to 'do what they say' but I really don't care what they say about this!.
What do you think I should say to them!?
Do you think I should be a Vegetartian!?
Anyone have any good links to sites with Vegetarian info!?

Thanks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have been a vegetarian for 20 years and I am very healthy, thank you very much! My doctor says I am the healthiest person she knows!.

What I'd avise you to do is go to the library and get books about vegetarianism!. There are a lot out there!. Do research, show your parents that it's not just a phase, that you put a lot of thoughts into it!.

Eating dead flesh does not make someone more healthy!. Eating a balanced diet (grains, legumes, tofu, veggies, fruits, etc!.) does!. If you eat a variety of foods, you'll be in great shape!.

Why not ask the family doctor!? If he did not get his degree from McDonald's university he should be able to reassure your parents that vegetarianism does not mean being unhealthy, au contraire!

Here's a good place to start:

Here's a very interesting article on Vegetarianism:

WELL YOUR GONNA BECOME A VETRAGN WHEN YOUR A8 AND OVER AND WHEN YOUR 18 AND OVER YOU COULD DO anything you want and parents arent they supposed to suuppport you Www@FoodAQ@Com

just eat around the meat!.

it's simple!.

Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well for one do not eat at KFC if you are contemplating vegetarianism!.
That is the ultimate no no!.
If they really won't let you be a vegetarian that at least ask them to allow you to limit your intake of meat!. Say that you will only eat a tiny bit instead of a whole steak (idk how much meat people eat at dinner lol)
And watch what you eat!. Like take note of what you eat that has meat in it and then you'll see "Well I only have meat at dinner, so couldn't i just throw in a veggie burger!?" or pasta, or another meal when they eat meat!.

Yes they should allow you to be vegetarian but most view it as costly!. Which if you live on veggie burgers (like I did for 6 years) it is costly!. Typically 4 -6 dollars for 4 veggie burgers!. (Although!.!. how much is meat!? probably more than that and that will last you 4 days!.!.) And you are young and can't afford food on your own!.
Try really stressing your point to them and tell them how you feel!. That it makes you upset that an animal had to die for you to eat, when there are other options!. And that you want to help animals not cause them pain!.

also PETA!.!. I was always like PETA is so great they help animals!. Until I learned (or I have heard I didn't research it) that PETA are the ones who make those slaughtering videos!.!. thus they are the ones doing the pain and torture to the animals to prove a point!. Which is utterly sad!. I think they send some good messages but that really makes me upset!.!.

I went vegetarian at age 12!. My mom was mad for about a year b/c she had to always buy me seperate food!. But now 7ish years later I am now vegan and she is perfectly fine with it!. Its just understood now that I don't eat meat and she doesn't worry about what I will eat anymore!.

You find more food that you can eat after a couple months!.
-Morningstar/Boca/Gardenburger Burgers!.
- Hummus
-Eggplant
-Pasta
-Veggie sandwiches (like from subway! delic!)
-soups (Cream of celery was like my favorite)
http://www!.vegan!.org/going_vegan/eating_!.!.!. go there, of course your not going vegan but they have a lot of good ideas!.

+++ also I am not sickly!. I am not stick thin and I am healthy!. I take a b12 vitamin but only becuase I want to!. I got blood work done to check all my vitamins (b12, protein, iron, calcium) and they are all fine!. My b12 was 400 in a range where it should be from 200-1100 so its on the lowerish side so I decided to take one but my doctor didn't say I had to take it or anything!. So as long as you eat healthy you'll be fine!. I ate a lot of junk food the first couple years but now as vegan you definitely can't b/c most of everything has milk or eggs in it!.

good luck!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's a great choice, going vegetarian!. Tell your parents that you don't want to eat something that can feel pain and they should understand!. Try mock meats to make the transition easier!. Don't believe people when they say vegetarians are all thin and pale!. Some of the greatest athletes are vegetarian or vegan!. I went vegetarian about two months ago and i went from 140 pounds to 120 and dropped 3 waist sizes!. I have abs now! If i can help just message me and i will do all that i can!.

About the Message above me about the defficency of B12, you can get that from many caplets, and the average vegetarian gets plenty so do not let that scare you out of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The best thing you can do is educate yourself!. Let your parents know that you are serious and this isn't just a fad!. Get some books and read up on how to stay healthy and get a good balance of nutrients and share them with your parents!. Find some vegetarian recipes and cook them a vegetarian dinner to show them that it doesn't mean you aren't eating good food!. There are some fantastic recipes out there!. Everyone teased me about it when I first became vegetarian but they adjusted!. Now I can cook a meal for my family and most of the time they won't even notice that there's no meat in it!. Vegetarian recipes can be so much more exciting than meat recipes anyway!. You just have to make sure you do it responsibly and your parents will respect your decision!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

(For the record- PETA is not bad, some of the -radicals- involved with it are!.)

Anyway!. Hello!. I'm 17, and became a vegetarian at the age of 13!. My parents didn't want me to do it either, but they're certainly fine with the decision now!.!.!.

Here's the deal!. I can't tell you what to do or exactly how to deal with your parents- of course, because I don't know you or your personality!. Maybe these tips for talking to your parents about the subject will help!.

- First and foremost, be informed!. Know your choices, what you can eat on a vegetarian diet, the benefits, and even the challenges (like getting enough protein)!. Treat it almost like a debate, and know the information!. If you make an argument they can't compete with, and you've got the situation under control!.

- Think like a carnivore, as well!. Know basically what they think and might say!.

- If you're stubborn like I am, use it to your advantage!. Be assertive about what you want and keep on them about the health benefits!. You've got to let them know that you're sure this is what you want and you're not going to change or be unhealthy because of it!. (That's probably their main concern)!.

And whWww@FoodAQ@Com

I personally don't think you should be a vegetarian!. You asked & I'm telling you!. Everyone I know is sickly, pale and just plain weird!.But it's your choice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
