Why do PETA members sometimes throw tofu pies at animal abusers—isn’t that a form of violence?!
I support PETA and all they stand for!. I just don't understand why they throw togfu pies at animal abusers!. Isn't it a form of violence!? It seems like pie throwing could easily hurt someone!. Can throwing a pie hurt somebody!? I agree that confining animals to cages is a million times worse though!. But, why do they do this!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
I don't think tofu is very dangerous, but I also don't think throwing a pie at someone is a good way to convey your message or persuade someone to change!.
PETA was upset with the editor of Vogue magazine because she was running fur ads and refusing to accept PETA's anti-fur ads!. So PETA threw a tofu pie at her during fashion week!. It got tons of media coverage and certainly made the Vogue editor pay attention!. I'm not sure what PETA's goals were; maybe they wanted to get the anti-fur message in the news!.
Another time, PETA threw a pie at the Procter & Gamble CEO!. An article states: ''This is basically a silly thing to draw attention to a serious issue,'' said Michael McGraw, a PETA spokesman!. ''A little cream on his nose is far removed from the animal suffering in P&G laboratories!.''

I'm a huge PETA supporter but I don't think I would change my behavior if someone threw a pie at me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Social movements need various levels in order to create change!. For example, in the 60's it was the hardcore hippies that managed to lead the environmental movement!. They did a huge amount to get regulations put in place!. After that you have various levels of acceptance of the movement and a lot of people who just sit back and watch it unfold!.
The same can be said for the animal rights movement!. Peta is extremist!. There is no doubt about it, but they have made themselves heard and have paved the way for a lot of other people to take initiative and pay attention to animal rights!.
Think about it this way: If there was no Peta, there would probably be far fewer vegetarians today in the US!. Even if all of these vegetarians don't agree with Peta, they are still infuenced by their work years ago!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

PETA generally is a hypocritical organization!. It has been proven that they financially supported organizations deemed "terrorist" by the FBI including giving $1500 to the Earth Liberation front!. Together with the Animal Liberation front these two terrorist groups have committed over 600 crimes and caused over $43 million in damages ( see Spokesman Review article 5-28-02 "PETA could lose nonprofit status")!. Several of their members also admitted at trial that PETA itself kills a large number of animals in their care!. They also admitted to killing animals to help with their publicity stunt for which they were brought to trial!.
I am against animal cruelty but don't like extremists or hypocrits!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

PETA members are crazy and purposely do offensive things to get their messsage across through shock value!. They don't understand that offending and shocking people is only going to turn people AWAY from their cause!.
For instance, they once had an exhibit at the Holocaust Memorial in Boston saying that chickens, pigs, and cows raised for slaughter were enduring the same treatment that the Jewish victims of the Holocaust were!. As an ethnic Jew, this offended me so much that I went and ate a cheeseburger!Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's silly; it's not a form of violence! It would only be a form of violence if the tofu actually hurt people, but c'mon, tofu is soft!. I admit there are probably better ways to foster support and get attention, but what if PETA has already tried negotiation and rational reasoning!? Maybe the opposition didn't listen!. Drastic times call for drastic measures, and all that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I agree they are an exremist group who uses radical methods to draw attention to their cause!. You say that they are not a terrorist group but the definition of a terrorist is to cause terror and by that definition I would have to say they were a terrorist group if they said slaughtering animals is like the Holicaust!. I kinda agreed with PETA until I heard that tidbit of info!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
What's wrong with violence!?
I have nothing against violence!.
In fact, I'm very much sick and tired of people trying to be so passive aggressive and politically correct and pacifists etc!. What happened to when we use to grab evil people and string them up and skin them alive for what they've done!?!? Now all we do is protest, and raise awareness, and maybe even try to take some evil people to court or whatever!. And all these evil people just laugh at these pathetic useless attempts to stop them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

With all due respect!.!.!.PETA does engage in a form of terrorism!. If you got a call from a group that didn't like your particular beliefs, and said "we know where your kids go to school!.!.!.we're watching you" you'd probably not like that!.
If the same group vandalized your place of business, costing you tens of thousands of dollars in repairs my guess is that you wouldn't be that keen!.
If the same group slashed your car's tires, and threw paint on your car because of your personal choices, what would you call it!?
If you're PETA, this is what they do!. All of the above is easily documentable and a matter of public record!. The first two incidents were done to a restaurant owner (you know, someone who owns a business, hires people, contributes to the local economy) who dared to serve foie gras, which has been consumed for thousands of years!.
Your decision to be a vegan/vegetarian is just that; yours!. It deserves respect and does not warrant derision, scrutiny, or criticism!. Similarly, you should respect those that choose to not be vegans and/or vegetarians (free societies do this without problem)!. The problem, as they say, is that you aren't respectful!. You cannot be reasonable at the point of yelling into a bullhorn or when you destroy someone's livelihood or threaten their children!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

While they may not be legally a "terrorist" organization they certainly have loose or not so loose ties to those types of individuals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
PETA is responsible for more animal cruelty than most of the accused abusers!. They don't care about people or animals just getting other people to do what they want through terror!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because they are a quasi-terrorist organization!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I AGREE with the first answer!. they are a cultWww@FoodAQ@Com
