How is Coca-Cola the dominant soft drink if Pepsi is mostly approved among the public?!

Question: How is Coca-Cola the dominant soft drink if Pepsi is mostly approved among the public?
I mean, Coca-Cola wins in most online polls against Pepsi and sells more. But more people online like Pepsi better. Although I like Coke better as it has a more crisp taste, it is odd which is the superior cola.

I suppose it is brand loyalty as Coke has possibly the most recognized logo in the world. Pepsi, however, has famous artists promote it. I see more drink Pepsi than Coke and more who like Pepsi than Coke. But nonetheless, I still favour Coke.

Answers:

It is true that in the USA, more people drink Coca-Cola mainly because of the promotion work the company has done. If you go to any big franchise chain restaurants like McDonald' s most only sell Coke products exclusively so as a little kid the taste buds are trained to remember how good Coke taste. Coca-Cola has always been aggressive in advertising all over the world. However in some foreign countries Pepsi is more popular basically because the company went into the market first before Coca-Cola. In short it all comes down to promotion and advertising rather than taste, brand loyalty comes as a result of good marketing techniques.

Are you referring to popularity globally or within your country or...?

It could be that although people online like Pepsi better ( not sure where you got this information, but just for fun I'm assuming its accurate) but the coke people may just like coke so much that they buy it on a daily basis. I know a friend's dad who used to drink a 2L coke every day.

As well, it depends on where coke is marketed. Some schools like ours only sell Pepsi but other places may only sell coke so that could make a big difference.

This is a pretty interesting subject, I hope other people respond to this question.

I'd guess because Pepsico owns so many fast food chains and food service contractors...they only serve pepsi.
If you want a cola, and ask for coke at those restaurants, you HAVE to accept pepsi. That must be where the "approved" notion comes up.

I subcontracted through Marriott back in the 90's for foodservice rights on a college campus.
They told me specifically that I was not to drink coke. I'd lose my contract if I was ever seen with a coke in my hand on campus. Pretty disgusting, huh?

You should see the movie "the invention of lying"....
Nobody ever lies in the town in the movie, and even the advertising is honest.
On the side of a transit bus, there was an ad that read:
Pepsi...when there is no Coke.

Enough said.

Well, if Coke is winning in the cola wars then it means that more people are purchasing it which is the true way to tell which one is winning. So, more people don't like Pepsi better only the ones that are taking polls.

Coca Cola is more famous worldwide I think. And polls could always show one result and still be wrong. They're not definitive.

It's a global company

Because Coke was first and Pepsi is the off brand copy of it.
