What is it that is added in with the coffee to make designs and such?

I'm assuming you mean the lattes you get at a coffee shop. They steam the milk, which of course makes the foam. All you need is any kind of milk to steam, or any other way to make foam. When you pour it into the cup, just use a spoon to hold back the foam and then when the milk is all into the cup, pour the foam and use the spoon to make the design.
