A TEA question--Why is Green tea so much more expensive than Black or Oolong?!

Question: Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Answers: Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Green tea is expanding its popularity at the moment, since it's the subject of so many health studies, though there's still more black tea available to manufacturers. That's one reason why it's cheaper. Green tea is also more likely to be sold as whole tea leaves, which are more expensive than the broken leaves you find in most black tea bags. I'm not sure about the oolong, since I don't usually drink it.

Where are you buying your green tea? I like http://shopstashtea.com/teagreen.html and http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/d... These are reasonably priced. Some supermarkets carry Stash. Other supermarket brands to try are Good Earth and Salada. Cost Plus World Market carries Republic of Tea.

You're very welcome. Cost Plus carries some other interesting brands, including some loose-leaf teas, too. Merry Christmas! Report It

  • I don't know, but I would guess it's because of all the advertising being done...saying it's such a cure all for everything.

It may be more than those other teas but it's less expensive and much easier to find than it was a few years ago. 10 or so years ago. Then you could only buy it loose and usually only at specialty stores.
    I know, I'm old. ;-)

It's not. Check out Trader Joe
