I need some ideas...?
Our family is going on vacation to the beach soon. I want to make some yummy foods to take with us. I want to have them already prepared ahead of time, so they need to be able to travel well--we will be driving for about 6 hours. My Mother-in-law always brings snack mix (you know--the kind made with chex cereal and other little tid-bits) What can I make?
Answers:
-Frozen Green Grapes. They are yummy. Just wash well and freeze about one or two days before leaving. Don't let them set too long in the freezer because they start to turn brown after a few days. They'd be great for a hot day at the beach. Make sure they stay frozen...they turn a little mushy if they thaw out before you are ready to eat them. Oh and make sure they are seedless...of course.
- Lots of fresh water....
- How about Rice Crispie marshmallow treats. They can be messy but who cares at the beach!
- Fresh fruit will travel well... maybe even take small serving cups of peanut butter or caramel for apples and bananas.
- Will you stay after dark and have a bonfire? If so, then definitely marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars to make smores.
- Granola bars travel well.....will you stop and eat along the way or eat in the car?
- PB&J is always a favorite of ours.
- I wouldn't take anything with mayonayse.....because if it heats up it could cause food poisoning.
- Milano cookies are also yummy....
- Cheese puffs....
Have fun and don't forget the sunscreen.
