Is too much water bad for you?!
Is too much water bad for you?
All i drink is water. I dont drink anything else unless a smothie. But then i once heard drinking too much water can harm you is this true?
Answers:
Too much of anything can kill you and when it comes down to it water - H2O - is just another chemical. If you are drinking 2 litres spread out over a day you're doing fine, it's when you drink a large amount (3litres) in one go that you could get 'water intoxication'.

No its not, not unless you are being forced to drink it as sometimes back in the day, they used that as a punishment. They feed victims water until they died. But anyone telling you drinking water on your own freewill is bad for you is THICK or trying to winde you up darling!! x
Too much water can be bad for you as it can wash away all the good salts that you need.
"But the fact is, in extreme circumstances too much water can kill you, even if all you do is drink it. Kelly Barrett, a 43-year-old pediatric dentist from Littleton, Colorado, died of a condition known as hyponatremia after drinking too much water during the 1998 Chicago marathon. Hyponatremia, AKA water intoxication, occurs when the body's salt and water levels get dangerously out of balance, leading to swelling of the brain and leakage of fluid into the lungs. It can occur when athletes, hikers, etc., sweat heavily, losing both salt and water, but replace only water. Diagnostic signs: dizziness, disorientation, headaches, extreme fatigue, death. Prevention: salty snacks and sports drinks. "
No bottled water better as tap water contains cholrene etc... but lots of water wont hurt you as you just pee it out!
no but if you drink to much at one time then you will get a stomach ache but water is fine for you nothings gonna happen
You can drink so much that it becomes toxic in you're system and it can kill you.
It happened recently to a woman that was in a water drinking contest on a radio station.
No more than eight glasses a day and space them out enough so that you do not bloat yourself with water.
You also have to understand that you get water from foods you eat so the only form of water you get is not that out of a glass.
You will know when you have had enough water.
There is no danger as long as it is not a regular feature and you are drinking often and visiting the toilet.
If this is the case, you should see a Doctor because the condition might just be diabetes.
p.s. I have asked the Moderator to BAN AZIZ 8 for the second time. His filthy language is unacceptable!
yup. too much of it good thing can harm you. But it is true. I have heard of cases where people died of water retention. Plenty water in your diet makes you cells bursts, if too many cells bursts, oh well... you know what happens. but seriously, don't overdo it ;+)
You can become flacid (not a joke) if you drink too much water but you really would have to be drinking an awful lot of water to become like that. It means there would be so much water in your body that your cells would be flooded and could not function properly - remember nerve cells, lymph cells, brain cells, etc, and you could experience organ failure in very, very extreme cases. 8 pints a day is good for you. 12 pints a day is a bit much. More than that and you are looking at trouble.
no it's not ever bad for you. unless your a baby then you can get drunk off water. And it can destroy your organs, but not for adults. It's nearly Impossible to drink too much water if you are an adult.
No not true, the only way too much water is bad is if consumed at once....if you drink a gallon of water at once it will shut down your kidneys (drown you in a way)....so drink up and enjoy
water is the best cleanser for the body
kidneys liver and so on
but too much of any thing is not good
for you
You have to drink an inordinate amount of water to make yourself unwell from it.
If you consume more then you body can handle at one time it will start to take away the electrolytes in your body. From that point it can cause your body to break down and shut down. which could cause you to go into a coma or die, but it will take a lot of water at one time to do that and I mean a lot! like maybe 10 litres in a sitting.
Drinking Too much water, Too Fast, may hurt you, it can actually "drown" you. But water throughout the day is just fine.
You can actually 'drown' your internal organs if you drink too much water at one time.
You are meant to drink about 2.5 litres of water per day so you would need to drink a hell of a lot at any one time to be overdosing on water.
Stick with what you are doing - its good for you
Im the same, i dont really go for fizzy, hot or flavoured drinks.
Just dont over drink as there has been cases where people have drank far too much.
Dont panic though, that is an extreme example. 8 glasses a day will keep you healthy. Try not to exceed that amount too draumatically.
:)
Ask gym members to name the essential items no kit bag should be without and most will say a bottle of water. Like stretching to avoid muscle strains, avoiding dehydration is considered a basic rule of working out.
But according to researchers, almost as many exercisers are putting their health at risk by over-consuming water as those who drink too little.
USA Track & Field, the governing body for athletics in America, has produced new guidelines urging anyone who jogs, cycles or power walks regularly not to take in huge amounts of water.
Dr David Martin, an exercise physiologist at Georgia State University, who has studied the drinking habits of joggers, said the change in recommendations was long overdue.
"We are very worried about the increasingly large group of people who are taking up running for the first time and who are told the party line: 'Make sure you drink. You can't drink too much. Carry water with you or you will get dehydrated. Don't worry about the heat, just drink more.' But that's wrong, wrong, wrong," he said.
British experts agree. "Drinking water at every opportunity can cause serious problems, such as hyponatraemia or water intoxication," Dr Dan Tunstall Pedoe, the London Marathon medical director, said.
"That leads to diluted sodium and other body salts, or electrolytes, in the blood, which can cause dizziness and respiratory problems. Some people collapse because of it, as happens quite frequently in the marathon."
Louise Sutton, a sports dietitian and lecturer in health and exercise science at Leeds Metropolitan University, said: "It is a common myth that you can't drink enough when you work out. In fact, it is relatively easy to overdo it."
Certainly, experts are not advocating a ban on work-out fluids. As a rule of thumb, it is accepted that the average adult loses about one litre of fluid a day through sweat and other bodily processes, which is the equivalent of four glasses of water, but those losses increase considerably during exercise.
In one hour of any endurance activity you can expect to lose around a litre of fluid through sweat, and more in hot weather.
Water acts as an essential internal cooling mechanism and failing to replace some of those losses will result in dehydration, possibly leading to heatstroke as body temperature soars.
But the latest findings show that we don't need to drink as much as was once thought.
So how much is safe to sip? "Aim to consume about a quarter of a pint [three-quarters of a cup] of fluid for every hour of exercise," Dr Tunstall Pedoe advised.
"More than that is not really advisable, unless it is very hot."
If you drink too muck water at ONE TIME, it can KILL you.
Just a few months ago, some morning radio jerks had a competion to see who could drink some huge amount of water the fastest, or something like that, and a woman DIED as a result of the stunt, even though a nurse had called the station to say it was a dangerous thing to do.
Naturally, the radio personalities were snotty to her and continued their stunt.
too much of anything is bad for you
Dont now
no. water cleanses u... so its gr8 4 u!
Only if you drink huge amounts it can kill you. But it is very rare.
No it is not true, drinking water actually helps the kidneys. if flushes out the waist and keeps you system nice and clean. Toxins can builed up in the body so drinking water can help reduce those toxins. Drinking water can help keep the body healthy. Hope this has helped.
yes, yes it is. i use to drink loads, till a dietician actually told me im doing serious harm to my kidneys by drinking too much, and its just not good for you in general! like someone said, you ridding yourself of salts that your body needs.
she siad loads of things that i cant quite remember, but it made lots of sense when she was explaining the reasons behind the claim. she also suggested that i drink a small glass of water with about a quater tspn salt in it, first thing in the morning.
It can be harmful. But unless you are drinking huge amounts really quickly, especially during strenuous exercise you'll be hard pressed to drink enough to hurt yourself.
Yes, because water speeds up your digestive system. People drink it to prevent constipation. But too much water will speed your digestive system so fast that your body won't be able to absorb the nutritions of the foods you eat. Let me tell you a story:
Once there was a kid with parents that said that whenever he did something bad, he had to drink one cup of water. So the kid did something bad and he drank one cup of water. This continued and eventually in one day the kid drank 50 cups of water! You're only suppose to drink 5 per day! After a few weeks, the kid died because he drank too much water. So don't drink too much! Also, too much of anything isn't good.
yes it can also make you swell up
Too much of ANYTHING is bad for you.....
Yes you are taking to much minerals.
Water is really good for you cos it flushes your body of its toxins but if you drink to much it can flush essential salts out of your body.
A healthy and safe amount is about 8 glasses a day.
