Why does my sister say diet coke causes cancer?!

Question:

Why does my sister say diet coke causes cancer?

my mum drinks it a lot and i quite like it, because normal coke has so much sugar.

Answers:
they claimed some time ago that aspartame, the sweetener used in diet sodas was linked to various types of cancer and some auto-immune disorders. nevertheless, it was just released that despite claims linking aspartame, the artificial sweetener in diet sodas, to certain cancers - such as leukemia, brain cancer, and lymphoma - an extensive study of more than 500,000 male and female subjects by the National Cancer Institute found no relationship between aspartame and those diseases. No increased risk was seen even among people who gulped down many artificially sweetened drinks a day. .

When researchers working for the sugar industry, injected large amounts of aspartame under the skin of a cancer prone species of lab mice, a few of the mice developed cancer.

its because of the splenda that they put in it
splenda is very harmful to your body.
it was first going to be used as a poison but the inventor accidentlally tasted it and found out it was sweet.
so its your choice if you want to drink it or not.

it might taste good to u but its disgusting! And she is right. Normal coke is much healthier.

I mean if you drink 56 of them a day it could lead to cancer. I mean if you ate a lot of things in large amounts it can cause cancer, but a lot of these things are fine in moderation.

1. because of either aspartame or splenda, artificial sweeteners (chemicals actually) designed to block out your taste buds and enhance your "sweet" tastebuds.
2. because of the carbonated water (destroys the enamel and gums over time and weakens bone density)
3. because of the caffeine (dehydrating and depletes the body of vitamins)
4. because of the carbonic acid (carcinogenic)
5. because of a flour cleaning solution allowed in it (benzene?)
