Does being a semi vegetarian bother vegetarians?!

Question:

Does being a semi vegetarian bother vegetarians?

I am a "semi" vegetarian. I do not eat beef or pork. I do eat chicken, turkey, seafood, fish, eggs, dairy. I do not boast about being a "vegetarian". I like to say that I do not eat mammels. I would be a full vegetarian if it was not for my husband...and not being able to find places, easy meals, etc that were vegetarian.

Answers:
Militant vegetarians are scary (see above). I do agree, however, that you're not vegetarian in any way right now. That being said....

Eat what you want, dear. Who cares who it bothers? That goes for your husband too.

You might also want to give some meat substitutes a try. For example, Quorn tastes remarkably similar to chicken. Seitan tastes so much like meat it actually bothers some vegetarians. Once you find substitutes you like it's super easy to simply switch them out in the recipes you already use.

At restaurants these days it's hard to find even a salad without meat in it. I've never had a problem asking for a "Thai chicken salad without the chicken" at places like that though. :D

First off, it shouldn't matter who it bothers. Do what you find comfortable.
But if you care, I have heard many veges say that something is better than nothing. But i can imagine it bothering few because they may think you are harming/belittling their cause by calling yourself vegetarian.
I think as long as you are not on a moral high about being where you are (and you say aren't), you are fine girl!

You are not a semi vegetarian. There is no such thing. It's the same as being "a little bit pregnant". Either you are or your arent. There is no in between. You are an omnivore if you eat both plant foods and meat.
There are millions of easy meals that are vegetarian, using that as an excuse is not valid.

I think you should do whatever you want, but I agree that you're not "semi-vegetarian." There's no such thing. You're just a person who doesn't eat red meat or pork, but you still eat animals. That's not any kind of vegetarian. Like I said, eat however you want, but I wouldn't label yourself vegetarian. I know lots of people who don't eat red meat but they don't call themselves vegetarian.

It disturbs me when anyone eats animals, because then the store has to refill the shelves, which means going out and killing again.

However, I think everyone needs to do the best they can. You are making a difference by cutting out the other meats. It can be difficult to be vegan, it took me a long time to stop eating certain things.

Heck, I still have some problems (I eat cheese at a restaurant and don't know if it has rennet in it, my little girl eats cherries on her sundae's which have red coloring from beetles) but I feel if everyone does the best they can, it helps out. For some people, they become vegan in baby steps, and some things may become easier for you to cut out in the future. At least you're making an effort! :)

Is there such a thing a "Semi Vegetarian"?
You are a vegetarian or your not, right?

YOU ARE NOTHING TO DO WITH A VEGETARIAN.

Stop using that word for christs sake. Your actions cause so much confusion in the vegetarian movement.

Yes, of course it bothers us.

does your husband force feed you ?
You should report him for assult.

A vegetarian does not eat meat, fish, poultry or slaughter by-products.

Its been the formal, internationally recognised definition for 140 years.

Its so simple i've no idea why tons of people confuse things.

Whats with this demi/semi/partly crap. If you cannot be bothered to use the proper words please do not hi-jack the word vegetarian

Ha, Ha, never been called a "Militant vegetarian" before, thanks for that. No need to ask if you know me or not.

Though there IS no such thing as semi-vegetarianism, you shouldn't really care if people want to call you vegetarian, or not. If you don't go around boasting that you're a vegetarian, I don't see why people would get mad. Why don't you try to slowly reduce the chicken you eat, until you give it up completely, then, do the same with the others (turkey, seafood). In the meantime, you can't call yourself a semi-vegetarian, because the term doesn't exist. Vegetarian meals are EVERYWHERE, all you have to do is open your eyes a little more. I promise you'll find it very pleasing to know that even popular food chains are now serving vegetarian meals due to the increase in people who are now calling themselves vegetarians. And..what does your diet have to do with your husband?

I think the only thng that would bother vegetarians would be the use of the word vegetarian, when in fact you eat meat. I , as well, ate exactly as you did for a very long time and never once said I was a vegetarian. In fact, at the time I was an ex vegetarian..It was as simple as saying I don't eat red meat or pork..But you are taking a healthy path in your eating decisions. Becoming vegetarian isn't as hard as you think, maybe you should do more research on the foods you should be eating as a vegetarian and find ways to make it easier on you.. Slowly cut down your intake of chicken and fish, and introduce more vegetarian foods into your diet.

No way! As long as you clarify you are a "semi" vegetarian, no veg should be offended. Good for you for eating healthy.
