mrslititia, I am not going to talk to a doctor. Most doctors eat meat. I will trust mother nature, as she knows what is best.

I am very knowledgable about the vegan diet and I can assure you that my baby will have plenty of nutrition. I can read books just like nutritionist can. There is no reason to pay them when I have the knowledge.

Congrats!

First, please clarify: is your question regarding baby food before or after weaning?

If before weaning, I'll reiterate: all newborns MUST be fed human breast milk, which is what "mother nature" intended. (although I'm sure - I hope - you have better sense than the ignorant space-cadets who killed their baby, not due to veganism, but lack of elementary common sense) "breast milk was designed for baby humans and quite probably contains substances needed by growing infants which are not even known to be essential and are not included in infant formulas."
http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/kids.htm...

If after weaning:
Start w/ mild, non-allergic foods such as, Iron-fortified infant rice cereal mixed w/ breast milk.

Then add cooked & mashed Mild vegetables & fruits: potatoes, carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, green beans, avocado, applesauce, peaches, pears, bananas, etc.
Don't add anything to baby food e.g., salt, sugar, spices, etc. and

NO citrus & nuts until 12mo.

Try to keep breast milk as his/her main source of protein as long as possible - as long as you can stand it ;) then soy-based formula, then fortified soy milk.
"Certainly it makes sense for vegans to continue breast feeding for a year or longer, if possible, because breast milk is a rich source of nutrients.
Vegan infants should be weaned to a fortified soy milk containing calcium, vitamin B-12, and vitamin D. Low-fat or non-fat soy milks should not be used before age 2. Rice milks are not recommended as a primary beverage for infants and toddlers as they are quite low in protein and energy." http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/kids.htm...

Here's to your precious, healthy vegan baby!

try smuch peas and corn you know the general stuff.

well i dont know about the vegan food..but maybe when she gets older you can let her choose if she wants to stay a total vegan. but raise her to believe in animal rights and love them!

your crazy! you'll kill the baby. hopefully your relatives will talk you out of this

most of it is vegan (my boy is a vegan since birth)

all you need to avoid is the meat products. but other than that most of the food a baby will have is gonna be vegan to begin with.

NO!!!!!!!! Didn't you see in the news the baby that starved on a Vegan diet? If you want to have a vegan baby, you can eat that way and nurse, or buy a special baby formula with no animal protein in it. But you can't make formula that will give the baby what it needs. Please please please talk to your pediatrician and get more info.

I presume this has to be a joke - you can't feed a newborn anything other than breastmilk, or, if that's not possible, formula.

You need to talk to the baby's doctor first before you get started on something like that..

Breast milk is very important for the baby because breast milk has valuable antibodies to help the baby to resist infections.

wouldn't it be ironic if your baby grew up to be a cannibal and ate you?

Just because doctors eat meat, doesn't mean they're going to mislead you regarding the health of your baby. You should consult a doctor to make sure there aren't any vitamin supplements you should be giving your baby to ensure the baby isn't missing any important nutrients with a vegan diet. I'm sure the doctor can also give you pointers on how to accomplish your goals in a healthy way.

Reply to your additonal info: You won't have to pay the doctor any more than you'd have to pay them already. Babies have to go to the doctor many, many times in their first year for their wellness check ups. You don't have to pay them extra to get nutritional information from them. It's advice they can give you at their regular appointments. Don't be so independent that you won't accept advice and guidance from a professional. It's in the best interest of your child to get all the information you can possibly obtain from their healthcare provider. And the great part is...it's included in your regular bills you'll have to pay anyway! I know I'd feel much better making decisions about my child if I had advice from his pediatrician.

Talk to a nutritionist if you won't talk to a doctor about it.
Breast milk is always best and you can easily move on from there.
Don't judge others for their intake of animal products.
Do as you will, but do it with knowledge.

I strongly suggest that you speak to a nutritionist,as baby's require certain nutrients in order to develop properly, and there have been cases, in which a child raised vegan from birth, have had malnourishment problems, and sadly some have died because of it.
It is possible however, to raise a very healthy baby as a vegan with the help of a nutritionist,to guide you in what foods are appropriate, and even possibly vitamin drops in there food/formula.
Good luck to you!

id say go to a doctor first even fi they do eat meat they should still respect your decision but maybe they can offer tips on the newborns diet because they probably have different needs than a full grown human and just make sure its safe. many adult vegans are unhealthy because of their diet because they dont know what is right for their diet. my friend died because of her lack of protien. I would also suggest breastfeeding. its natural and it isnt going through any of the sort of things cows milk goes through and it certainly wouldnt have the hormones that are fed to the cow itself. also when they become old enough do give your child a decision. most will decide on their own wether if they were fed vegan from birth or not.

Dont be f**king stupid. Dont risk you babies health to impose your views on him. It should be his choice to be a vegan or not....its not yours. Let him decide when he is old enough.

fruits and veggies are good
evan apple sauce
yummy!

don't let your baby eat meat...that's it.

There is no safe or responsible way for an newborn to be fed anything but milk (your or another animal) or formula. You will also hurt their development because critical B12 will be missing. It is one thing for you to choose this for yourself it is another to hoist your beliefs on someone totally unable to defend or choose for himself.

Mothers who are strict vegans must take true b12 supplement (and not analogs) otherwise their babies suffer permanent disabilities and quite frankly if you do this, I hope the child welfare removes the kid from your care.

You don't have to believe me but if you are truly not going to get advice from a doctor then you are nuts. Not all doctors eat meat or advocate meat, mine is a vegetarian. He helps me to make sure my diet is healthy and balanced without excess meat by providing me with blood tests that measure my levels of B12 and other vitamins and minerals.

You and I can choose to limit or eliminate meat from our diets without any serious immediate concerns because we have had time to build our b12 reserves but your poor child hasn't. Being a parent is not about telling your child what to do but teaching them to choose for them self.

As for your last comment about mother nature knowing best, that may or may not be the case but you are not mother nature and just like me or anyone else on in the world you are fallible. You could be wrong or right but your baby's life is not a social experiment.

Mother nature gave us smallpox, bubonic plague, diptheria, and a host of other maladies.

If you purposely do not see a doctor that could be construed as willfully neglecting your child. The judge will not care about your viewpoint if the baby dies.

Babies need milk.

How about going Vegetarian so s/he can have eggs? Either way, thank Goodness for people like you, you keep our population under control.

And if you had the knowledge, you wouldn't choose this life style, no way, no how, ESPECIALLY(!!!) for your child. No saturated fat? Hmm, that's what keeps our veins strong.

well come to the world of vegetarian because of you more and more animals will save their lives, breast milk is very important for your baby till he grows up to 8 months then starting with soya milk etc

;) Good choice, however obviously you want to feed a newborn breast milk. They also make soy formula. Whoever said "There is no safe or responsible way for an newborn to be fed anything but milk (your or another animal)" nuh uh. Your milk hon, or a soy formula. I wouldn't be worried about talking to a doctor for advice. He will have your best interest at hand, so if you were to say this baby will be vegan regardless of your opinion on it, he will supply you with the proper information, otherwise he'd be neglectful. There are many healthy vegan children in this world so anyone who wants to disagree are 100% basing that on opinion and not on fact.

Ashley, your intentions are honourable but you have the naivety of the very young. Get some good sound advice before you go do this road. What's that saying?

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

please be very careful with your future childs life, it is so important.

1. Make your own breast milk, not something from almonds (whatever that is).

2. Ninja Grape Juice - that is an awesome name you have! LOL.

There's nothing better for baby than mom's milk - so vegan from birth shouldn't not include breastmilk. You'll have to make sure to include the right alternate proteins. If you breastfeed - you can wait longer to introduce solids at all - but at first there are no issues - baby food they start on is grains, fruits and vegetables, meats are last to come into play and can easily be replaced with tofu, veggie burgers, quinoa and more. But, baby needs special nutrition for the first year - at least - you have to start with breastmilk or formula for the first year - soy formula is great and baby won't spit up as much - but please be careful of baby's diet - check the ingredients in Almond milk - and compare to a can of formula - and you will find the formula has the right mix of vitamins and other ingredients like DHA - this isn't about personal pride so she can grow up and say - I've never touched an animal product. It's about making sure your baby gets the nutrition he or she needs to develop a healthy brain, muscles and tissues during that first year which is so crucial!!! If you can't or won't breastfeed - formula for the first year - is the best thing to do for baby's overall health and proper development. Make sure to get your baby's checkups on time - they can tell you if baby is underweight, average or overweight so you can tell what their needs are - if for instance a baby is underweight and breastfed - obviously baby isn't getting enough - in that case - formula should be considered. The only alternative to breast milk is formula - baby is not ready to digest other foods until about 6 months breast fed and about 5 months or so formula fed.

I've seen a few of your questions recently, and so far held off by replying to them? but it seems to me that you're on a one way street to try to change the world, and anyone who dares to oppose you ,in what i call freedom of speech?
you come across as egotistic, and as in your edited question more knowledgeable than doctors and nutritionists? while this is probably boosting your already inflated ego,i can assure you you're not, and I've never met you? while i believe each and every one to his/her own,i strongly disagree about trying to force there beliefs down other peoples throats, like you tend to do,and if you don't like what you hear, threaten them with a violation? knowledge ,that you claim ,to have an abundance of,is gained by other peoples experiences, and actually listening to?something you clearly don't do? not going to the doctors because he eats meat?don't make me laugh...how old are you because i suggest you start listening to others ,and grow up?...and this is going to go down really well with you isn't it,TOUGH..they say the truth hurts?

As long as you know what you are doing, go for it!! My youngest was not vegan (but vegetarian, with little dairy and eggs) from birth, but at 13 months is moving in that direction. Breastfeed! There's no better food source than your breastmilk. Even if it's hard make it work, because your milk will give him all the things he needs. Breastfeeding past a year is even better for nutrition. There are 2 supplements I recommend taking because they provide what the child needs as well as what you need, and you need to make sure both of you are getting it! Find and continue to take vegan pre-natal pills until 6 weeks after you stopped nursing. This will provide all his vitamins including B12. Find and take vegan DHA, found in the form of algae (the stuff the fish eat in order to have DHA inside of them for us to consume), for optimum brain and eye health. You can begin to take this while pregnant, and make sure you continue while baby is nursing! All your fruits and veggies mashed up are all baby should really be eating for the first couple of months anyway to avoid allergy reactions to wheat and nuts (not milk or eggs since you won't be feeding them to him). With that, you don't even have to start solids at 6 months, but rather when the baby is visibly showing signs of wanting to (sometimes not until 8-9 months). After you find they are ready to really start eating, make sure you are making a variety of healthy stuff (stay far away from an ingredient call Hydrogenated Oils) and feed him that! And finally, I'm not sure why you said Almond milk, but that should not be in your child's diet until after age one, and as long as you are breastfeeding, he doesn't need it unless it's a part of a recipe! With that, making sesame seed milk is better for both of you if you drink it cause of the wonderful amount of calcium in it! And don't worry about Vitamin D. Taking the baby outside without sunscreen and without a hat before 10 am and after 4 pm, for at least 30 minutes will help allow his body to make its own Vitamin D (no need to supplement the baby with that crap since your milk also supplies some).

God help your future child.

Until you have a child you know nothing.............!!!!

Mark these word well....!!!! I say them for your sake I TRULY do,, If you force something onto a person be a your child or any other youth i can guarantee you one thing rebellion you are too young to understand the complexity of life and this is why I say you are acting foolish.

Almond milk does not have the nutrients that regular milk has. YOUR BABY NEEDS FORMULA or Breast milk for the first year of life or he/she will be MALNURISHED

Well, since you were Vegan durring the pregnantcy, your baby might already be use to the vegan diet. HOPEFULLY! Here's some sites to help . http://www.vegsource.com/parent/growing_...
But you should study stories about Vegan Baby Deaths to learn from what went wrong in those cases.
