Can VEGETARIANS EAT these things ...?!
Can VEGETARIANS EAT these things ...?
ok i heared things like vegetarians can not eat jello .. which i know but i also heard they cannot eat marshmellows or Jam perservatives as well ... and how bout peant butter and soup broth????
Answers:
yes vegetarians can. vegans on the other hand can't. vegetarians don't eat meat or fish and that's about it. vegans don't eat any kind of animal ingredients that includes jello (which is made from gelatin). do some research.
Not that I know of. I'm not a vegetarian but jello is not an animal product, neither are marshmellows, jam, or peanut butter. Soup broth may contain animal juices (like chicken or turkey) but other than that I have never heard of that...
Do your research. If you're going to be a vegetarian you need to understand what that means. Quit following the herd and look deeper into the question.
Oh, and jello is an animal product, but most idiots don't know this. What is the educational system coming to these days?
Gelatin is an animal byproduct. I think what vegetarians eat depend on what kind of vegetarian they are... some people do it for ethical reasons, and they do the research. Others just don't like meat, and they are not as strict.
Some marshmallows are made from gelatin, but you can find "vegetarian marshmallow" recipes using a substitute... can't find anything about the preservatives.
Vegetarians can eat peanut butter as long as no animals fat have been used to make it. Your best bet is getting organic peanut butter. About the broth, it has to be vegetable broth. Vegetarians will not eat beef stock (broth) or chicken stock. About the jam preserves.............unless they are super strict and ridiculous they are fine!
you may be talking about vegans rather than vegetarians. Vegetarians don't eat animal products and the soup broth if it is chicken,or beef broth, they will not touch. But Jello, and marshmellows, I have never heard of.
gelatin is made from animals. So items made with that gelatin is not vegan. Marshmellows are just air and sugar I think but you would have to check the ingredients.
Some "binders" are made from animal by-products, so again, you would have to check the label on the preserves and peanut butter.
Soup broth can be tricky. You have to read the labels to be sure. Some vegitable broth is made using fish stalk or chicken broth in them.
Only vegetable broth, since others have chicken or beef stock in them.
The first answerer is wrong. Gelatin contains a product derived from horse hooves. Since it's only an animal byproduct from the rendering process it's up to you and your level of vegetarianism to determine whether or not you can eat it. Some grocers offer animal-free gelatin but I've never tried it and don't know how well it congeals. BTW, marshmallows have the same product.
A vegetarian does not eat anything made with gelatine, such as jello, pop tarts, marshmallows, yogurt, ice cream (not all brands use gelatine) gummy bears, etc. Jam would be okay if its made from pectin and not gelatine. Peanut butter should be fine, and vegetable stock, but not stock made from meat, poultry or fish. Its really a matter of how dedicated to being a vegetarian you are. Gelatine is made from the boiled skin, bones, ligaments, and tendons of slaughtered animals, so its not in any way vegetarian.
Somethings you have to watch for. Jello contains gelatin which is made from boiled horse/cow hooves. Marshmallows also contain gelatin. Soup broth is okay if it is a vegetable based based broth.
I am a vegetarian and I do not eat jello or marshmallows. They contain gelatin, which is an animal product (hooves, bones, etc.). Peanut butter is fine, but no broth except for vegetable broth. Many soups are based on chicken or beef broth, so they are unacceptable to vegetarians.
Depends on "how vegetarian" they are. Some are more strict than others. Jello contains gelatin which is made from parts of animals. Peanut butter sometimes contains animal oil. Soup broth has animal juices.
I was a vegan for many years and during that time I abstained from eating any gelatin products that contained animal byproducts.
I bought pure peanut butter that didn't have anything added to it. You had to mix it up really well and store in the fridge in order for it not to separate though.
I always used vegetable stock when making a soup.
hi, im a vegetarian, and in answer to your question no we cant eat jello or marshmallows because they have gelatin in it, which is an animal product, and some jams may be vegetarian however many arent, and peanut butter is similar some brands may be veggie friendly however some arent! In regaurds to the soup broth, that depends on the flavour, even some vegetable broths may have animal fats in them so the best thing to do is to always check the ingredients label or look for the vegetarian society approval stamp found on vegetarian products, or buy foods from a vegetarian or vegan store, where you can find substitue foods, such as vegetarian jello, and vegetarian marshmallows!
