The exact definition of natural flavorings & flavors from Title 21, Section 101, part 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations is as follows:
"The term natural flavor or natural flavoring means the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional."
In other words, natural flavors can be pretty much anything approved for use in food!!! (asorbic acid and tomatos)
stuff.
sodium, or salt to enhance flavor
It means that the acid came from nature and not artificially.
Honestly, if you are a really strict vegetarian, i would stay away from anything that says "Natural Flavoring" or of course "Artificial Flavoring." They can both be so many different things!!

I read somewhere that "natural flavorings" can also include MSG.
Someone once told me that if an ingredient list stated "natural flavors" as an ingredient, it is something to avoid. It could be MSG which we know is unhealthy, could be salt, could some type of preservative, not real sure most times what it is exactly....
Do you know how much food product has "natural flavorings" in it? Let's look, shall we? In my pantry
Mushroom soup (campbell) & Chicken noodle soup (progresso)
Spaghetti sauce (Prego)
Kashi Go Lean cereal
Salt-free pretzles (brand unknown)
Granola (store-brand)
Apple sauce (store-brand)
That's just what I felt like looking at. So good luck trying to find food without "natural flavor" or "spices" in it.
of course u get ten points for best answer
