Organic Produce?!

Question:

Organic Produce?

There is an article this week that mentions certain fruits and veggies to definitely buy organic. What if you just plain can't afford them or they are not available. Does washing get rid of the pesticides. Is this just a marketing gimmick to get us to buy something more expensive. Sorry I am so skeptical.

Organic bananas are definitely tastier- to me-
what i mean is- does the pesticide get inside the fruit or is it just outside. I have always washed all veggies and fruit- just before using

Lately "organic" has become just a marketing ploy. Organic milk, for example, comes from cows that do not get access to fresh pasture or grass.

Washing fruit that has been grown with pesticides doesn't get rid of the pesticides because that toxic stuff has been taken up by the plants with any moisture and so it can be found in the cells.

The best way to buy fruit, vegetables, milk, meat, eggs, grains is to buy them directly from the farmer. That way you can see with your own eyes how the products are raised.

I also want to mention this: how can something that was grown "organically" and then shipped 1,500 or 3,000 miles really be fully nutritious? Locally produced food is the best as it retains it's nutrition.

Monsanto got the FDA and USDA to agree to allow their producers use the label Organic if they planned on going organic sometime in the future. Not everything that is labeled organic is indeed organic.

Organic is indeed getting to be very expensive and it is astute of you to realized it is becoming a marketing gimmick. Don't be sorry for being skeptical.

It is only going to get worse. There is wording in the Farm Bill to prevent the states from making their own rulings or laws about agriculture, like genetically modified foods or rBHST in milk, if the USDA thinks they know better. Think about that for a minute...states will lose their rights to make laws if USDA has a business agreement with the likes of Monsanto or Tyson.

Well oraginc meens that it made with natural stuff and yes washing does help a lot. Don't buy it unless you have some medical need cuss some of it is gross and stupid like organic milk.

Look, if you can't find them or they are not available don't worry about it. Seriously! Yes, wash your veggies and fruit and no that won't make them organic simply because organic means they were grown with no fertilizer, pesticide, etc..etc...
I'm 42 years old, I am not switching to organic.

MARKETING!!!

there is absolutely nothing that is natural or pure in this world. NOT EVEN WATER!!!

They are trying to get you to pay more. EVEN no pesticide food has been fertilized by some animals crap (mostly chicken sh*t) and they have been either fed hormones to make them bigger or they are fed food that has additives. Or the water is treated to grow it. NO SUCH THING AS 100% NATURAL.

yes...washing is good

Things like apples and peppers do hold onto pesticides quite well. Washing will definitely help, but organic will eliminate chemicals better.

But here's an idea for saving money. Try a local farmers market/produce stand. I know the people at one in my area, and in the summer, they grow their own tomatoes, peppers, etc. They don't use pesticides for the sake of using them. If they have an outbreak, they use them, but they will happily let you know what they use and how much they use. They often also buy from smaller farmers who do the same because they don't have the budget of large commercial farms that spray as a matter of protocol.

Remember, it costs $$$ to have an inspector come out and certify your food organic. These small farmers may be close to organic, but unwilling or able to pay the extra mark-up.
