...and i m not just turning veg. to loose weight..but since i was small i had a thing for animals.But my parents got me used to eating meat...and know ive decided to change that!

Sounds like my same situation...for the animals. And yes, it does help loose weight because you are replacing fatty meats with healthier greens. For protein, eat more nuts and drink soymilk. If you are also not going to eat gelatin, I wouldn't eat these... found in Jell-O, yogurt, skittles, etc. Anyways, don't replace a lot with cheese, because cheese is bad for your skin...I made that mistake...but now I use noodles, rice, etc. to replace meat. I've lost about 8 lbs. and eating healthier makes you feel better too. Also, if your friends don't support you, ignore it! :-)(-:

No it can actually be bad for you. Eating lean meats and drinking coffee can improve metabolism and can help you lose weight. I read that in a health magazine.

up to some extent it will help u to watch ur carbs and fat intake ...make sure u r not eating fried food ..

I agree with cruz. Your body is actually is very dominant to get protein from meat. So, don't really do it... My cousin eats a tin of Quaker Oat and low fat milk. He lose his weight in 3 months and with a kilometre of jog too...

It does not necessarily mean you will loose weight. I am vegetarian and I know you can be vegetarian and still have poor food choices. As a vegetarian you can eat french fries, grill cheese, fettuchini Alfredo all of which are high in fat. You just need to choose foods that are healthy for you weather you choose to be vegetarian or not.

it depends on what you eat. if u eat to much bread then u wont lose wieght, and you wont b able to consume most fat burning protiens. but in my opinion if you tried to eat the vegetarian protien( what ever tht is) it could b nasty.lol

it can.. but only if you used to eat lots of dairy and meat. ALSO, if you start eating healthy.

LONDON - If you want to keep the weight down, switch to a meat-free diet, scientists said on Tuesday.
Researchers, who studied the eating habits of 22,000 people over five years, including meat eaters and vegetarians, found they all put on a few kilos but meat eaters who changed to a vegetarian or vegan diet gained the least.
"Contrary to current popular views that a diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein keeps weight down, we found that the lowest weight gain came in people with high intake of carbohydrates and low intake of protein," said Professor Tim Key.
The research compared weight gain among meat eaters, fish eaters, vegetarians and vegans -- who eat no animal products -- and is published in the International Journal of Obesity.

yes, but remember, don't do it for the wrong reasons

It's "lose" weight, not "loose" and it all depends on what you eat. Vegetarian food can be unhealthy and fattening just like a broader diet if you load it down with processed foods, sugars and fats. Calories matter, no matter what the source.

Avoiding refined, high calorie foods and fats along with exercise can help a person lose weight.

Couldn't tell you since I've been a vegetarian pretty much my whole life. My dad raised me in the SDA church. But since I've been vegan I've noticed my waistline has gotten smaller, though I didn't lose any pounds. No doubt this diet can help you stay healthy and maintain an appropriate weight, but if you're expecting a miracle fat-loss cure, you're going to be dissapointed.

if you eat alot of meat, you will notice a big difference when you stop. Since meat is fattening, cutting it out of the diet will make you lose some weight.

BUT.. you should keep in mind that a vegetarian diet can be just as fattening. I have lost a ton of weight recently, but I am 5'3" and I DID get up to 206 lbs on a meatless diet. I had a poor diet. (Pizza, Spaghetti, Veggie meat sandwiches, veggie burgers, veggie hot dogs, the between meal coke and candybar, practically no real vegetables.. etc..)

If you want to be vegetarian, and you would also like to lose weight, just be careful not to overdo these things

Fresh fruits and veggies
salds
low-oil stir frys
soups
anything fresh, made from fruits and vegetables.

Supplement with tofu, other legumes, peanut butter, veggie meats, whole grains, and low fat dairy, all in careful moderation.

This kind of diet should help you lose weight and become alot healthier.

Not really. YES vegeterian alternatives to the typical meat product are much lower in fat HOWEVER you can still have poor eating habbits. Remember, vegeterians can still eat cake, cookies, and all of that junk. You're better off not only sticking with a vegeterian diet but watching other things that you eat as well.

Depends on your diet. Being a vegetarian doesn't cut out all of the junk food (ie potato chips, chocolate, things smothered in cheese, cakes etc) so there is still as much temptation as when you eat meat.

I actually put weight on when I turned vegetarian but I was eating all the wrong stuff. I'm a vegan now and am a healthy weight but it still requires some self control (Green and Black's organic vegan chocolate is heaven on earth).

The best (non fiction) book I've ever read is called 'Skinny B*tch' by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. It gives you the lowdown on being a healthy (slim) vegan and is rib-achingly funny in parts. I highly recommend it to the world!
