Dear vegans...?!

Question:

Dear vegans...?

i've been a vegetarian for 6 years and am slowly deciding i want to be vegan.
i've got meal plans and talked to people about what i should and shouldn't eat, etc.

but when reading labels on such things as say; sauces and pastes, WHAT kinds of things do i need to make sure aren't written on the ingridients section?

please, your tips would be helpful =]

Answers:
A few common ingredients found in lots of "seemingly" vegan food.... to look out for include:
Gelatin (including marshmallows)
Casein (calcium caseinate) (Found in soy cheese sometimes....)
Rennet (Also found even in soy cheese sometimes....)
Whey (a dairy product found in lots of things... breads, margarine...
Also look out for :
Mayonnaise…most contain egg
Pasta…. Some contain egg

It can be tricky at first, but after awhile you get used to knowing what's what.

Godd Luck!

PETA's website gives lots of detail about Vegan friendly food. One thing I discovered, the veggie sausage by Morningstar Farms contains eggs. Have fun reading the labels.

Stick to mostly whole foods. There is a list somewhere online called "Accidently vegan" with a whole list of items that happen to be vegan.

Great question! Here's an amazing website for you with pretty much all of the animal byproducts you might not expect. Some of these things can be from plant OR animal sources (for example, glycerin can come from either), so you may need to contact the company or check websites like www.peta.org, because they have already verified with many companies what is and isn't vegan. Some things also aren't used anymore, but this is still a VERY helpful website!

Hope that helps! Good luck and congrats on going vegan!! :)

Pretty much if you know your foods like plant base foods-keep in mind when your reading.

The easiest thing to say is DON'T DO IT! Its not easy and I don't think its healthy at all, vegan is just like a fad for hard-core vegetarians. You'll never be happy, it'll just make you look awkward when eating out and spend ages shopping cos you've got to check everything. Don't change yourself for the same of a life time of grueling punishment.
Enjoy this one below it my favourite.

Red food coloring = E124 or E32, which is beetle blood and its in most sweets, sauces and curries.

you can tell by the looks of the food
