Do you think this will stop people from eating meat?!
Do you think this will stop people from eating meat?
If meat analogues improved in taste and texture to the point that they tasted just as good as meat, do you think it would stop people from killing animals once and for all?
I really want to find a solution to stop all this killing. I want animals to have the same rights as humans do.

Fred D, even if meat analogues tasted better, you would still kill animals? Why would you do that? Do you not have compassion for them?

Aw, so you must be the one referred to as Ashley the Annoying... Glad to meat you!
Won't stop me. Wake up, that fake vege crap does not taste as good as meat and you just admitted it. hmm, ...animals same rights as humans? Should they be allowed to vote, drive cars, go to college, and serve in the military? If my cat kills a bird in the backyard, should she be tired as an adult? What is wrong with you v&v, PETA and ALF types?
Bottom line is, I am against animal cruelty, but some animals were raised to be food, some as pets and some wild. Why do you feel so enlightened as to feel the need to push your political and social agenda on others who like to eat meat and fish? Did it ever occur to you that some of this is their culture? Try telling Eskimos to stop eating seal meat and starve to death, not too many plants that far up North, are there? Where do you get off telling others that there is something wrong with their culture?
You make me so mad, I want to eat you.
Defintely think it would - but they would have to be reasonably price. At the moment Tofu and Quorn are very expensive - but I don't mind the taste.
maybe..but its more fun killing an aminal..and the blood just excites us...
I will continue to eat meat until the day I die.
So get over it and quit trying to push your ideals and beliefs on others.
Reply: Yes. Animals were put on earth as a source of food. Do you think other animals will stop killing each other and turn into vegetarians.
Also correct me if I am wrong, Plants are living organisms also.
are you serious? How about we stop humans killing humans before we focus on animals???????
People are designed to be omnivores. They are genetically predisposed to eat a diet including meat. You make your choice and give others the freedom to make theirs.
I want a good steak . KILL the beast !!!! EAT MEAT !!!!The animals were put here for us to EAT !!!!!....
I see what you're saying but people will never stop eating meat. It has been proved that we are made to eat meat by studies on our digestive system and on our teeth. Millions of people would be put out of business, the econmy would crash and millions of animals would have to be killed anyway as where would they go?? Countryside would be sold and built on. I do believe in animals being treated in the best humane way possible and the actual slaughtering being quick and painless though. I'm not a big meat eater and eat a lot of substitutes but think the majority of the would wouldn't.
I dont agree with breeding animals for food, also the way the animals are killed is pretty inhumane. i dont care what these experts say aboput it being humane. But yeah maybe if more veggie sfuff was shaped like meat i reckon more people would eat more veggie stuff. x x
If people didn't eat animals and use them for clothes, shoes etc then there would be no point in having animals. Pigs, cows and sheep do not contribute to life in any other way than food, milk and clothing. If you are a veggie then thats fine, good for you, but don't preach to others about what they should and shouldn't eat, everyone should be free to choose for themselves.
No..it wont. Most people don't care and want what they want, no matter who it hurts. Human nature in general is something I am almost embarrassed about.
aw how cute, you away telling teacher stories. animals can't vote to have the same rights as us, so there best kept for the pot. i nearly choked on my bacon roll when i read you had contacted yahoo.
If there were no meat eaters in the world then the animals wouldn't be bred in the first place! You wouldn't be able to drive past a field and see sheep & cows.
If everyone became a vegetarian today, whole economies would crash and unemployment could be quite an issue for some time. Most of the livestock will probably be killed off or left for dead. We're talking major chaos in the world. Would the world be better off for it? Yes, eventually. Once the economies stabilize and the ‘problem' with the extra livestock is solved.
The meat analogues wouldn't have all the goodness of real meat.
We are meat eaters - it is in us. It's the food chain, a way of survival!!!
Thats why god made sheep and cows.
I know it's harsh but it's the truth!!!
Anyway some animals would eat us given the chance.
So its better to eat than to be eaten!
No. I haven't eaten meat for 16 years, though I cook and taste it for my work. It's not all about texture/taste. People have always eaten meat, all around the world. How could the whole world possible survive with eating meat/fish/eggs/honey/milk etc
Would you like to see all the animals bred for food slaughtered if everyone stopped eating them, for no reason other than it would be too expensive to keep them as pets.
Why are you letting people get to you and reporting them? They've won by winding you up, let it go.
I think you are wasting you time by being so aggressive and pushing your views onto everyone. Get a hobby or get out there and do something that will really help the animals that are truly suffering. Raise money an dawareness to stop the unnecessary slaughter or tigers for medicine, or elephants for their ivory. There are countries that want to make these trades legal again. Help stop whaling or game humting holidays for those who think shooting a leopard will make them look good and powerful.
There are things you can do to help animals in need, berating people on here is not going to do it. It will only make you bitter and angrier than you already appear to be.
Utopia is impossible. There will always be killing, but I do feel that veganism is growing. It is amazing how, in the last few years, products have began listing "vegan" on them or restaurants are using the term more. Look at Wal-Mart; I would never have thought they would sell the vegan products that they do now.
However, America's meat consumption is growing at a death-causing rate because we feel we run the Earth and can do whatever we want. We are on the same course as the ancient Romans: we are letting our egotism blind us and it is only a matter of time until our civilization falls due to ignorance and greed. Rome fell to the barbarian invasions, and it is eerily happening now with the Iraq conflict.
Americans first need to learn that all humans have the same rights as us, despite skin color, nationality, or religious views, before they can ever start valuing the lives of animals.
Yes, I think if there were more alternatives available then I would definitely eat less meat. I actually eat very little meat, I eat Quorn products quite often but I do eat some chicken and fish. I have three children who are not veggie lovers despite my best efforts, and I just don't have time to make a different meal for myself.
I think that if you don't eat meat, it takes a lot more planning to ensure you're getting all the nutrients you need, and that there are not so many quick meals you can rustle up quickly after work, etc. Perhaps if there was more demand, food producers would make more non-meat products and they would come down in price a bit.
I doubt it. A previous answer stated current offerings are expensive but did not mind the taste. I for one will never buy and eat something I don't "mind" the taste of when I can eat something whose taste I thoroughly enjoy. I sympathize with those who feel killing animals is awful but I disagree at the same time. I don't know where you live but had the buffalo not died off how wold you enjoy the million strong herds when they pass through your nieghborhood? Chickens would not survive on their own in the wild and exist today only because they are raised and cared for by those who will eventually kill them. What would you propose we do with all the livestock on the planet once we no longer have a use for them as food? Turn them loose and allow them to raom free? Cattle, Chickens, Llama, Alpaka, Ostrich, Emu, Sheep, Goats, and so on. The owners are unlikely to want to invest more money in their care if they no longer have value, a rancher does not consider two hundred head of cattle as pets. If they turn them loose, then what? They will quickly become a nuisance wherever they roam and become the property of local Animal control authorities who will eventually...kill them. I don't think the problem...if in fact it is a problem, will have a very simple solution such as soy beans.
I think that no matter what you do people will always eat meat. I am a pescatarian (i dont eat meat but i eat fish) and I am very against animal cruelty. Maybe you could start like...a convention to inform people about how hazardous to your health eating meat can be, and how its better for the earth to REDUCE meat consumption.
Is it just me or does it seem like Vegans are aloof, self centered, and seem to have a better than thou attitude.
Eating meat is a standard practice for many people. Most people wouldn't even try the fake meats. It's a culture thing.
Even though I'm vegan, I don't think there will be a time in our lifetime where animals have anywhere near the same rights as people - they can't speak for themselves. It's getting to the point where mentally and/or physically handicapped people don't even have the same rights as "normal" people.
You should put your passion to better use by volunteering.
if they did meat like that for people that don't eat meat then i will be one of them lol
No, people will want what they've always eaten. They don't like to try stuff that seams to different.
No, no matter how good fake meat becomes the sheer fact that I know I am eating animal flesh is bliss in itself. No matter how good it is my canines will always know the difference.
You still on your preaching perch, a little fact for you to think about.
You I and nearly everyone on the planet eats meat EVEN the purest of the pure. here's how.
When you are sleeping in an average year everyone eats between 6-12 spiders.
We have been killing all sorts of animals since time began, take you home for example, the land cleared to build it would have killed off generations of small mammals, most everything in your home is made of animal bit's you best throw out that PC, destroy everything you own and go live in a cave on your chosen diet, only then can you preach your narrow minded view, heck nearly everyone agrees that more should be done about poor factory breed animals and give them better welfare.
Animals having rights are you mad!!!.
You have NOT participated in Q&A fairly you have simply come on this site to preach your view which is against the Q&A policy.
I still think you are out to do more harm to the true Veggies and Vegan in this section and like the attension you have brought on yourself
I made a meal for some fishy-tarians. Their choice was a paella. This resulted in the death of over 50 innocent animals, just because they would not eat meaty-meat.
Kill Kill Kill. I actually had to personally kill about 20 poor mussels and about the same number of cockles.
Just like plants, there was no blood, no screaming, not complaining, (although they did rattle nastily in the pot!).
When we eat plants, they die. They cease living and the world loses their genetic material for ever.
Animals must never have rights. We pretend by criminalising cruelty to animals but that just affects a small minority of mentally ill people and sociopaths. It is not done to help animals.
I am going to eat a big steak tonight because of you posting this question. So there!
i agree animals are my life i respect them and if a 13 year old can then so can any other dudes!
p.s STOP ANIMAL SLAUGHTER!!!
Well having read the previous answers to this question I can see clearly how meat eaters are feeling very guilty about eating animals - trying to justify their needless cruelty and greed to themselves as well as everyone else.
Their arguments are not convincing anyone, they just come across as a bunch of retards.
In this day and age, humans have got control over the entire planet due to the way we have evolved. We regard ourselves (as a species) as "intelligent" and then behave in ways which are so unintelligent it's unbelievable.
In the natural world, the food chain is very complex and essential for the survival of all creatures. E.G. Grazing animals are picked off by their predators for food, which in turn allows the grazing animals to survive by keeping their numbers down to an extent that they have enough food to go around (basic example).
However humans are destroying natural food chains, are dominating the planet and destrying it. Humans are overbreeding animals and factory farming them in disgusting conditions and this is where it really becomes wrong.
There are so many reasons for not eating meat.
Another reason is that the rainforests are being destroyed at an alarming rate to provide land to graze beef cattle and to grow their feed.
We are not more important than animals, we are sharing the planet with many other species' and we should respect them and not treat them cruelly.
If we carry on the way we are, we will wipe ourselves out, if not the planet itself.
When there are alternatives to meat, what is the problem? Do meateaters feel less powerful eating vegetable products? I don't understand it myself. I guess there are just a lot of selfish people in the world.
Ashley, I've already indicated that I once felt just as you on this subject. You have to appreciate that what you are up against is a TRADITION of eating meat that a whole lot of people would be very reluctant to dispense with. Then again, smoking has also been regarded as a tradition and now smokers find themselves on the defensive. You will not accomplish your aims single-handedly: all you can do is calmly and rationally debate the subject with those who have not already made a conscious decision because they are not aware of the facts. I do not honestly believe, as a chef, that the taste or texture of meats can be accurately copied to that degree. Diced or minced beef is not terribly exciting at the best of times and so is easily substituted but I do not believe that a Sunday Roast can be replaced in the same way. People will really have to accept a change of diet for ethical or health reasons if they are going to do this: they will have to sacrifice their favourite foods and traditions and this means that they must be committed to believing what you believe.
You clearly believe very strongly at this point that you are right to demand this of people and you will see that I faltered in this essential belief that I was right. There are also questions to ask such as, would people actually keep animals if not for meat? Vegetarians might say "Okay but they'll still keep hens and ducks for eggs, sheep for wool and cows for milk", yet you as a Vegan are opposed to the exploitation of animals in any shape or form. The fact is that a lot of people in this world live very much hand to mouth and could not afford to feed these creatures unless they earned their keep in some way.
People have sometimes answered your question by saying that they do not believe as you do but they are opposed to intensive farming methods, eg: battery hens. What you must understand is that this is probably the first thing that everyone may eventually agree on: that animals kept for food should be humanely treated, given freedom to wander about, enjoy the sunshine and receive good food. Hence your first aim should be to lead everyone to that point and do not attempt to go further with them. Just be content with one step at a time.
Oh get a grip woman.
Look. since the dawn of time, man has hunted, killed and eaten animals. we have evolved bodies and intelligence (in your case I use the term loosely) that brought us to the top of the food chain, bodies that can chew and digest animal flesh, Its as natural as breathing that we eat meat as well as veg. Stop eating meat? You might as well ask us to stop sh1tting
What do you think would happen to all the cute ickle lambs and calfs in the countryside if we didnt eat meat? They are bred as food, if we didnt eat them they would serve no purpose. They wouldnt be there anymore for you to feel sorry for.
I can assure you when an animal is slaughtered for food, it feels no pain. It takes a single deadly bolt to the head which it knows nothing about. Quick clean and painless. One moment its alive, the next it isnt, there is no bizarre torture ritual, it doesnt hurt, it isnt cruel, it is the natural order of things.
If you wish to go against nature, fine. Just stop pushing your beliefs on the rest of us.
EDIT: Jamielove is talking out of his @rse. Of course humans are designed to eat meat as well as veg. Scientifically speaking we are omnivorous. No, one human on his own could not chase / kill an animal. But in the beginning, we were pack animals and worked as a team to bring down wooly mammoths etc. We developed larger brains, made and used tools to help us in the hunt, we used fire to cook our kill. we evolved to have opposable thumbs to do all these things and put us at the top of the food chain. And as for the statement that it is 'impossible' for human to digest meat. Ridiculous! I am 26 years old. I have eaten meat since I was able to eat solid food. Are you suggesting that all my meat based food since then has sat in my bowel going nowhere? If humans were not meant to eat meat then how come we have been doing it for millions of years. Back to the time when we were basically animals operating on instinct?
Vegetarianism is a relatively new thing.
