What is your political slant as a vegetarian?!

Question:

What is your political slant as a vegetarian?

I have noticed that there is a sort of "self categorizing" of vegetarians into various political groups. Do you think there is a standard "vegetarian" political viewpoint?

I am a christian vegetarian with conservative leanings, i am pro-seal hunt because of my heritage, i am also pro-gmo because i think it will help more than harm. I don't fit into the mold that the media has for vegetarians and i wonder if i am alone on this.

Answers:
Well, I'm a vegetarian and a moderate. I swing left on some issues and right on others and I have some more radical viewpoints as well. I'm not sure that vegetarians are about uniting under one politcal slogan; we aren't even united on why we're vegetarians. We're probably pigeon-holed as much as any group (aren't all Christians Right-wing Republicans and all minorities Democrats?). Most of us are more complicated than that.

I think many vegetarians exclude meat only because of health reasons, so they may be in your boat on a political sense.

Left-wing extremist.

I'm not very political at all but i do lean towards democratic/ green party. I'm not conservative at all but that doesn't mean there are not many like you. i don't think there is a specific vegetarian viewpoint. it depends on what you except and value. so obviously, due to everyones different experiencing being raised, not all veg*ns are going to feel the same.

well, since i'm pretty young (not enough to vote) my political views are still being molded. now, i am actually more in favor of republicans

Vegetarianism is related to health and ahimsa (non-violence) in most users, but there are exceptions. Hitler was a vegetarian. He called meat broth "corpse tea." You didn't know that he was a humorist, did you!

Libertarian. I think the gmo stuff should be labeled. I'm not so much animal rights as for humane farming, all those zombie animals in factory farms are gross. I was also raised adventist.

I don't eat meat..i eat fake meat...and i am against all types of hunting..in this day and age...you have a plethora of vegetarian options and a cornocopia of sporting options...killing any of god's creatures is wrong..you shouldn't play God and decide who gets to live or die...

Life is about compassion and being the best person you can be. If you can live without harming other beings and doing good deeds, you have done your part in justifying your life. Be thankful of all you have and please do not take it for granted. Show God that you deserve Life by being a good person. Hunting and eating meat only contributes to your 'Wrongs'.
