Tofu can be cooked in as many ways as you can imagine.
You can put tofu in almost any dish, and it will absorb the flavors around it and add substance, texture and nutrients to any dish.
Is there a more specific type of food you were interested in?
Depends on what you're putting it in and in what form you're buying it. I just throw some olive oil in a skillet and throw in the tofu.
Whenever my mom cooks me tofu, she makes it in a different way. She just made tofu sloppy joes, which was made pretty much the same way as regular sloppy joes, but using tofu. She's also made tofu pizza.
Tofu can be made so many ways......and comes in many forms...silken, soft, firm, extra firm, baked and even smoked. It's very bland, so will take on any flavor you mix it with.
We like scrambled tofu..firm or extra firm tofu, cut into little cubes, "scrambled with McKay's chicken style seasoning, sometimes chopped onions or scallions, some garlic powder and pepper.
Silken tofu can be cubed and put into soups,
or mashed with seasonings and plain oatmeal, some raisins and sunflower seeds (I do add an egg to hold it together) and make into patties and either bake or pan fry. This can also be formed into "meatballs" and baked, but don't try to fry them.....they'll fall apart.
Another way......drain and freeze firm tofu. Defrost and squeeze water out, slice and marinate for a nice texture. Be careful not to use much salt........it really soaks up any liquid.
There are so many ways......these are just a few ideas off the top of my head.
I prefer extra firm tofu, wrap it in papertowels to absorb the excess water. I cut them in rectangles - sprinkle with garlic, kelp, turmeric, curry powder (and whatever other spices I might have on hand) for frying in olive oil, hot pepper sesame oil, a little soy sauce. Then sprinkle with sesame seeds when done.
Or cut in small pieces and saute them in Italian herbs (oregano, basil, etc) for spaghetti. Or toss them in a salad when they are cool. Or in Lo Mein or any stir-fry veggie.
Ok, now I'm hungry.
