Does telling the truth make you an extremist and why?!

Question:

Does telling the truth make you an extremist and why?

When meat eaters may comments like => "They also think because of their love of all life they are superior to all others who do not share the same view (not all you understand but there are a few on here) means that anyone who has a different view to theirs are scum PLEASE understand that most Vegan's do not act nor think like this and as a result deserve the utmost respect It's the SAD FEW EXTREMISTS that spoil they own very Nobel beliefs"

Have any of you (vegans and vegetarians) ever been called an extremist simply because you told the truth and defended innocent animals?

If so, explain to me the best way to deal with meat eaters who want to make personal attacks against me?

To Greg N. and veganproud, I will never stop telling the truth. Sounds like to me that both of you are what I call "culture vegans". This means, you are vegan just because it is a convenient culture for you to be a part of, not because you actually care about animals. I, on the other hand, am a real deal vegan who speaks the truth.

It does work both ways. I have never even thought about criticizing people being vegetarians or vegans. I have friends whom are both and it has never been an issue. My husband and I are Dairy Farmers and since using this site, I have received some abusive e-mails from various vegetarian/vegan people telling me to justify what I do and why I do it. It is sad when people have to criticize the way other people live their lives be it on the subject of vegetarianism, religion, sexual orientation etc. I am perfectly happy with my life as I'm sure you and many other people are with your/their life choices. It is not nice and is extremely hurtful when people try to ram their opinions and lifestyle down your throat just because you have different ideas and a different way of living your life and it doesn't agree with theirs.
I choose to ignore those 'extremist' vegans who choose to insult me as you should ignore the 'extremist' meat eaters who you feel insulted by. There will always be people attacking both sides, but what is the point, it only creates more resentment and life is far too short.

I really think you two need to move it to emails.
Another way to end the personal attacks is to quit making personal attacks.

**wow speaking of, ..is it your goal to alienate everyone thus making the fight for your cause a fruitless venture??

You seriously need to work on your people skills.

Meat eaters just hate anyone who
believes animals were not created to
be tortured & eaten...thats why they get
so defensive and say alot of cruel things,
they are just cruel people.

Animals do get their revenge...
Folks get alot of illness's from eating
actual flesh....

May they have to answer to God someday!

Ashley, your profile says your fairly new here and I also get the impression your fairly young in rl-sorry if I'm wrong about that.

Anyway while you have made a good decision in becoming a vegan I have to say that some of the things you say here are not helpful to us.Things like calling meat-eaters immoral for example. I understand what your saying-that you find eating meat immoral-but calling others that just gets us all a bad reputation.

I suppose I'm suggesting you should tone your answers down a little.Keep telling the truth but try not to be offencive.

As we learn about the ways animals are exploited,it's common to feel anger and frustration. But we need to make sure our emotions don't overwhelm us,to be effective animal advocates,we should be teachers, not fighters.

Most of weren't raised as vegetarians. While we learn more about animal exploitation,it's often difficult to remember that, just like our friends and relatives who aren't vegetarian yet,we too, once contributed to animal suffering.

Because of this,it's often helpful to ask ourselves,"Why did I become a vegetarian?" Chances are,it wasn't because someone called us murderers or condemed our food choices.Likely,we adopted it vegetraian eating because someone helped us see that choosing compassion over killing was a simple way to reduce suffering, while improving our health and the environment.

You can be the animals' most effective ammbassador by leading by example and teaching others with patience. The animals would thank you if they could.

you only used part of my answer the full answer is below in the source I am too tried to take this up at the mo I thought it best just to reserve my spot.
you just keep on proving my point don't ya.

I will re-write this tomorrow, sleep well all (well those on the same time line as me, and those that are not have a nice day).cya tommorrow.

People who fought for womens rights and black peoples rights were also considered extremists not so long ago, for simply stating the obvious and doing what was right.

Too many people are ignorant, but fortunatelly they are also lazy, and this is how things get done by minorities, because the majority prefers name-calling to action.

In this ignorant and passive world you will be considered an extremist for having an ideal, belief or a trace of hope for this humanity. But dont let the words hurt you. Just let your healthy lifestyle and a peace of mind prove them wrong. And smile!

What is your whole point of being on Y!A? Do you even think that you are accomplishing anything with your Q&A's? Like others have stated, your whole approach and attitude is not helping the veg*n lifestyle. You are making veg*nism look like the choice of self righteous whiners. You wanna know the best way to deal with personal attacks? DON'T MAKE ANY YOURSELF!!!! Calling people who are not a part of your chosen lifestyle murderers or immoral isn't helping you, it is hurting you.

I don't see what the problem here is. He made the disctinction that he was not stereotyping all vegans and just making a comment that some go too far, so what's wrong with that? It's true. And it's true for most everything. There are Vegans and certain animal rights activists that infuriate me because they go so far left that they alienate people from the movement. They alienate the very people that need to be convinced and it doesn't help any animals in the process. Everyone needs to be aware how being too far to one side will slow progress rather than help it.

Thankfully not all vegetarians/vegans have an aggressive, holier than thou attitude.

The personal attacks are probably as a result of your attitude, which you could consider toning down. You do tend to invite criticism. The truth works both ways, why not learn something from it.

depends on the version of the truth. you may think that your's is and the meat eater may think that theirs is. the truth is a bit like stats. it can be manipulated to suit.when a meat eater gets aggressive with me. i simple ask what their problem is with me not eating meat as it seems to bother them. i do not push me being a veggie down their throats. if find that their behaviour towards me shows them up.

No matter what convoluted thinking the politically correct may come up with telling the truth cannot make you an extremist in anything.
