Answers:
I'm more perturbed by the cruelty of modern intensive farming practices (factory farming) than the actual killing of animals. That's why I don't eat meat as a person who lives in the city. If I lived in a small rural community where people respected the animals and if I didn't have such a great variety of alternatives as available in the city then I might eat meat. I can't imagine how, but if I had no choice I may even kill an animal myself.

It's easy for me in the city to not eat animal products because there are so many alternative products from regular and multicultural supermarkets. It's just not necessary for me to contribute to cruelty to eat and be healthy.

On the rare occasion that I do eat fish (not farmed fish) because I feel I need it I don't feel bad about it - but I do make it a rare occasion. It's not about calling yourself a 'vegetarian'; it's just about giving some thought to what are eating and contributing to and making your own decisions about what you feel comfortable with.

It's also easy for me to be almost vegan in general lifestyle because it's how I was raised - my parents cooked vego and we lived in many countries that have a great variety of vego food, like India.

I respect and encourage any person who at least tries to reduce meat in their diet and makes better choices about the sources of their food because it's not easy to just go vegetarian overnight if you were raised eating meat and processed food every day.

Anyone who criticizes someone who is trying to do better - such as someone who eats meat just once a week or the 'vegetarian' who eats fish occassionally or wears leather shows - needs to butt out of other peoples' lives and examine their own choices.

some people really like animals and feel bad for them. some people have particular religions against eating a particular animal too.

whats the deal with vegetarians that eat fish?
whats the diff between fish and meat your still killing an animal. if you eat 1 why not the other lol

our body is set up like an herbavore, not a carnivore. our body doesn't break down meats properly and red meat rots in our system. it's also pretty unhealthy and unneccessary. plus we are far beyond the old mcdonald farm and the mass producing and slaugthering of animals is inhumane and quite wasteful. not to mention that animals have nervous systems and do infact feel feelings.

not to be preachy haha.

Reason 1: My dad worked at a meat packing plant and took me to work one day.
Reason 2: If another form of animal was the domniant species I woulden't want to be eaten.
Reason 3:Most meat upsets my stomach.
I've been vegetarian for 9 years.

BECAUSE MY BODY WORKS FAR BETTER THEN WHEN I USED TO EAT REGULAR FOOD, NOT FAST. JUST LOOK AROUND AT WHAT FAST FOOD IS DOING TO PEOPLE,THEY LOOK FAT AND IT'S ALL IN THE SAME AREA'S ON ALL THAT DINE ON THE CRAP,I'VE BEEN A VEGGIE FOR OVER 37yrs & I'M 51yrs AND IN GREAT HEALTH, THATS WHY.

I have been a vegetarian for 30 years, or close to it. I was apartment-sitting for a friend and I realized that if I gave up all meat except chicken, I would save a lot of money, so I gave it a try. It was easy and I never really liked red meat anyway. After 5 years I realized that chicken, also, made my stomach turn, so I quit that also. I have now been a vegetarian for 25 years and I feel a lot healthier and lighter. It is one of the most healthy decisions I ever made and I'm not about to start eating meat again. Terri K

Because of Horace.

Horace was a male pig that my father had when he farmed with pigs when I was a child in the UK.

When Horace was three he was 'too old' to do his job properly and inseminate the sows so he was sent off to the abattoir (slaughterhouse in the US) to be made into sausages.

Young pigs are bred and killed for bacon (baconers) or pork chops (porkers) and old pigs are the ones that are made into sausages.

That was enough for me at age 11. I am now 59 and have been vegan for the past seven years and vegetarian since Horace died.

I also believe that I am far healthier without animal products in my diet... but even if it were not healthier I would still do it because of Horace, because I don't believe we need to eat other animals in order to live and because of the cruelty involved in factory farming.

Horace was never kept inside... he was always able to feel the grass under his hooves etc. but in the end he still had to die for human consumption.

i dont like hurting animals

you are right, there are many different reasons. my sister is a vegetarian, and her reasoning has nothing to do with the fact meat is from animals. her reason is that she just cant handle the texture of meat, it grosses her out. she still eats fish, but she still doesnt like that texture. she only eats it because there is something in fish your body needs, and cant get from any other food. not sure what it is...

and when i was younger, i was a vegetarian for almost a year (I had to stop, because i kept fainting as i was only a child) and my reason was the christmas ham. i couldnt handle looking at a leg, then eating it.
i still dont eat ham...

sorry, just though id add this.

Well my reasons are religious. I am a Hindu and a Bhramin and am prohibited by religion to be a vegetarian.

Non violence and cleanliness are cornerstones of my religion and i am thus a veggie and proud to be be one.

cheerz.

I don't have a particular reason, as I never 'started' being vegetarian. I was raised as a vegetarian from the day I was born, and I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

I'd never stop being vego either, meat's just icky, and it reeks.

meat isn't necessary to survive and be healthy. Its not necessary to have to kill animals for no reason other than to eat them.
