Would a vegan who breastfeeds be a hypocrite?!
Would a vegan who breastfeeds be a hypocrite?
Since milk is our by-product and we are mammalian - making us the same as animals? Just a hypothetical question I wanted opinions on.
Answers:
Well, I wouldn't say so. It is natural (drinking milk from other mammals is not). All mammalian young drink milk from their mother.
It is the ultimate "Power Food" for a baby.
Anyways, cows are abused for their milk. Unless you are getting abused, too, I would encourage breast-feeding your baby.
Are you sure you're not just trying to be a smart aleck?
Cow milk is meant for baby cows. People milk is meant for baby people. It is not natural for us to suckle at the teat of farm animals - we are the ONLY animals that drink the milk of other animals our whole lives - it's just frickin weird! It is perfectly natural and wholesome to breastfeed.
Human breastmilk is meant for human babies. There is nothing hypothetical about your question. There is nothing hypocritical about a vegan feeding their baby their own breastmilk.
you're stupid. that's my opinon. A vegan doesn't consume animal products. that doesn't include our own breast milk.
No and I don't understand why you would think they would.
Vegans don't believe that humans should consume OTHER animals. I've never heard a vegan talk about how digusted they are with a wolf or how immoral the wolf is. The wolf is a predator and needs to hunt to live.
Female bodies do produce a food substance after birth. Breastfeeding directly gives food made to intended target. Where as vegans don't believe that animals are a food source intended for humans. Very different.
Wow. You really have too much time on your hands. Seriously, like what? The Vegan police are going to arrest nursing mothers. Geez, get a life.
I would say it would be stupid of a vegan to not nurse her baby.
There IS a legal court case now because of the death of an infant because her vegan mother did not breast feed her infant nor did she feed it any meat or dairy products.
It did not get the necessary nourishment it needed to grow and develop properly.
No way!
Human milk is meant for human babies. Cow milk is not meant for humans.
Vegans aren't against milk, they're against the cruelty that cows endure for us to drink milk.
So no, that would not make them a hypocrite. Not by any means.
no, a vegan who breastfeeds would not be a hypocrite.
uh no cuz its nature!
No, :)
People who choose a vegan diet for health reasons and who educate themselves on nutrition understand that milk is baby food. Nature produces it for a reason.
People who choose veganism for animal rights do so because of the cruelty and factory farming involved, as well as many other reasons, but I'm limiting my answer to be brief.
A mother breastfeeding her child is not animal cruelty and she is providing her child with the nutrition she can naturally produce.
I hope that helps. ~G~
Uh, no. I am not a mammal being used to feed another species. It would be hypocritical if I caged up some other women and took their breast milk for myself (and family) after selling their babies for fun and profit.
no. Brest-feeding is necessary for a baby.
No way. Most people who are a vegan are vegan for certain reasons relating to animal health and well being- vegan standards have nothing to do with breast feeding because breast feeding does not harm animals! :)
A lot of animals are vegan. Look at cows and horses, antelopes, and elephants. These are beautiful, wonderful creatures who also breast feed their babies. Their natural diet is a vegan diet.
Look at the list of questions in the vegan/vegetarian list and you will see some which seem to come from meat-eaters asking sarcastic and condescending questions of vegetarians.
This is asked ALL the time and it's still the same ignorant question all the time. A woman nursing her child is not exploiting or stealing milk from animals.
I dont think so, anyways, I wouldnt care, because it is willingly, plus, it was made for our babies, cows milk is not, it is made for theirs. I don't try to define myself thatway... I'm an ETHICAL vegan, if I wanted to drink goat milk, and it came from a surce that the goat is treated perfectly fine, and the baby wasn't killed for that, I qould drink it. its not just defining vegan, its trying not to inflict pain of suffering on anything =)
