Veggies! Did you know?!

Question:

Veggies! Did you know?

This is to anyone that sometimes, may go to McDonalds to get a side salad. A week ago, I went to get a side salad, because I was too tired to get to the grocery store, purchase, and make something for myself. I bought the salad, and asked for Italian dressing. Luckily! I read all my labels! It says look t the labels for sodium content (something like that) and when I looked, I read that they actually use fish in the new "Lighten Up!" Italian dressing. Did anyone else catch this? If not, glad to share it.
Any opinions? Does anyone know if they have any other options, seems like they always hand me fat-free dressings, do they offer regular? I'd take extra calories over fish anyday!

Well, I know I should have used my own dressing, and I did when I got home. But, at the time, I just didn't see why they had to use the anchovy, and why they had to make a light dressing with over half the sodium content that we're supposed to have each day. Just for some fewer calories.

I prefer to not eat out unless it is a vegan or vegetarian place. And I don't even go to fast food places,I will go to subway ocassionally or go to a gas station,a lot of gas stations sell fruits and veggies where I live.

boo hoo

if you're taking it home, why don't you just use your own dressing?

I dont eat mcdonalds but thats good to share the information for those that do. Strangely enough alot of ethnic cuisines (specificly asian) "vegetarian" menus contain fish in their sauces. Another thing to watch out for.

Thanks for sharing! That's good to know. Be careful of a lot of worcestershire sauces too (anchovies). Caesar dressing also usually has egg and fish. It's always a good idea tor ead labels. If you want to know what half the stuff on most labels IS, I recommend the book, Twinkie, Deconstructed. It not only tells you what a lot of the crazy-sounding ingredients are, it tells yuo where they come from. Yuck!

wow, thanks for the info.
I don't eat McDonald's, but one never knows when you might HAVE to eat on the run and that is about the only option.(and ppl wonder why I keep a 'goraw' bar in my tote)
I am allergic to seafood and something like that could be deadly.

no i didnt know about that, but im sure they offer regular dressings too.

Thanks for the head's up to other veg*ns. Yes, I've known about anchovies in many Newman's Own (the supplier of McDonald's) dressings for a while. All of their, low fat & regular, Italian dressings contain anchovies. Ask for their Balsamic Vinaigrette instead.

what were you doing trusting mcdonalds to feed you?

Didnt you see the recent broadcast a TV news channel did on all of the fast food restaurants' menus? Especially the salad items....no decrease in caloric content in any of them! They all claim to have reduced fat/less caloric items, but the truth is they disguise it by handing out the fat-free dressings or low cal condiments with them. The food itself however, is still loaded with fat and sodium and all those things we need to avoid. Another trick to fool us into thinking we are eating healthy, but we are not.
