It may sound strange but I have to ask?!

Question:

It may sound strange but I have to ask?

I work at a preschool and the other day two of the teachers were talking about the lunch menu being changed so that their is no pork products in it. I know that pork prodects surved in schools have mostly fat and doesn't taste that great. But why would they cut it out of the menu comepletely. I'm sure it provides something for the kids if nothing more then a different kind of meet for them to enjoy. If anything I think they should take out Beef products b/c of all the kids that's families don't want them to eat beef.

Answers:
This is likely for religious reasons, not food preference. It must be hard for a preschool to keep one type of food away from only certain students, and there are numerous religions that forbid pork. Pork like any other meat is good for you in small amounts, but there are so many substitutes for preschool type food- turkey bacon for example, that it shouldbe pretty easy to just not serve it!

"I know that pork prodects surved in schools have mostly fat and doesn't taste that great."

If this is true for the pork products, why is it such a big deal that they're being cut out? A little bit of fat is not a bad thing, but if they taste crappy too, are the kids even going to eat them? I'm not saying I agree with taking them off, but maybe they want to switch to a healthier menu in general, and for growing children, they need healthier options, not fat laden food that teaches them bad eating habits.

Pork 'n beef r kind of similar, I think they bring the same advantages as well as disadvantages. But if ur school is multi-racial then most probably the teachers want every students to be treated equally (cuz Muslim don't eat pork)

As the other answer said, it may be due to the eating preferences of some religions. Muslims don't eat pork, and I believe Kosher Jewish practice excludes any pig products from touching the other food.

I think it's because pork is really unhealthy for you, and because they can't remove all meat products, they went for the one most unhealthy and the one that probably carries fewer essential items for any diet, especially children.

well they would do that maybe because of what you described. but beef tastes better than pork. im a vegetarian btw, thats just what ive heard

What has this got to do with vegetarianism? Neither beef or pork have a place in any vegetarian diet.
