Are there any genetically modified crops that are being sold?!

Question:

Are there any genetically modified crops that are being sold?

Thanks

Answers:
depends what country you live in because some countries have banned them completely, or some countries have made it mandantory for companies to label a product as having genetically modified indredients. However if you live in the United States yes there are crops\indredients in other foods being sold, and no they are not labeled as such.

It is safe I believe to assume when you see a corn product in a processed food (like corn starch) it is genetically modified, and unless you are buying organic fresh corn, it is GE. same goes for soy and soy products, if you buy soy based burgers or soymilk, it's probably GE unless it's organic. same goes for wheat and canola... there are a few more common ones to watch out for, but those are some of the more common ones. i think if you live in most european countries you don't have to worry, it's either banned there or they are required to label a product accordingly.

In the US, you can be pretty sure that every plant you eat that is commercially grown is genetically modified. They all aren't, of course, but so many of them are that you'll never know which ones are which.

All corn grown commercially is GM. So are soy beans.

In the US, corn, soy bean, canola, cottonseed are GMO. So check your labels and if you see these things don't eat it. Buy organic.

First off define "genetically modified". Almost every single crop grown by humans has been modified by farmers selecting for desired traits (look what humans have done to dogs and cats), most everything you eat has been hybridized with the exception of soybeans (they don't hybridize).

Of course I'm sure you're referring to crops that have the genetic manipulation done in the lab. Most any crop you can think of has been tinkered with in the lab. Almost all soybeans varieties are genetically modified in this manner since you can't hybridize them. But also keep in mind that most of the 'lab created' cultivars that are grown are still 100% soybean genome and are NOT trans-genic.

If by genetically modified you mean trans-genic (combining two entirely different genomes) you'll find lots of crops have been crossed with genes from bacillus thurengiensis since B.T. is a natural insect disease. Lot's of non-GMO 'organic' crops actually get sprayed with B.T.! The GMO crops are NOT supposed to be sold for human consumption but they still do enter the food cycle (look up Star-Link corn), mainly through cross-pollination. Interestingly, since soybeans DON'T cross-pollinate that's not a concern with them.

There are other bizarre GMO combinations that exist in labs and test plots but almost none of them are commercially farmed, although a rice-human GMO is in the process of being approved. Cow-human hybrids have been producing milk with human proteins for some time now!
