What made you go vegetarian or vegan?!

Question:

What made you go vegetarian or vegan?

Just curious? I myself went vegetarian 3 weeks ago. I'm trying to go vegan but I still need to find replacements for dairy and eggs. I did it mostly because I would not eat meat from tortured animals, second the benefits of health. Let me tell you, I feel the difference. My stomach feels more lighter ( I don't know why), and I have more energy. My heartburn even seemed to go away. About the milk, I stopped because it always grossed me out of where it came from, and I know people say drinking milk is not killing the animal, but guess what, dairy cows got it bad too. That defenetly got me to stop drinking milk. Well anyway, the reason I ask is because I never realized how many people wont eat meat.

Answers:
I realized that there was no good reason why some animals are "supposed" to be eaten, but others are not. I've spent my whole life around animals, including farm animals, and they can be just as smart & personable as any dog or cat. When I realized that there is no LOGICAL reason why some animals can be eaten and others cannot (according to society), I decided that I could not justify eating any animals. I'm a "why" sort of person... I have to know WHY things are the way they are, HOW things work the way they do, etc. I couldn't find an answer that satisified me. "Because society says so" isn't good enough reason for me to eat a cow.

The main reason that got me into doing information were a couple of bands I listen are all vegan/vegetarian they are ******* great on stage.I was always curious about veg and then I just started getting info and things like that.
health reasons.
saw a video on Peta2.com called meet your meat(that was when I like okay.that made just think)

a couple reasons i went vegetarian is because i hate the way
the animals are killed just for food. Also I had to lose some weight. i still am one today.

excellent question im gonna star it after this, well im a vegan and i went vegan cuz first of all its more healthy, it makes u live longer, but my main reason is because we are all animals just much more intelligient and we should all treat each other equally cuz God made us all equal, all organisms, also cuz we're taking too much advantage of us being the most intelligient species, how would u like it if lets say a giant, a more intelligient species came along and just killed us and ate us? how would u like it? we are like that giant if we eat meat, torturing less intelligient life forms, using them for our benefit, the benefits are for all of human kind and u might say that isnt selfish but if u compare it as a species, u would say the human species as a whole is very selfish, taking advantage of what they have... hope this helps =)

I agree w/u! and that w I'm a vegan. I LOVE animals, and I feel harming them is as much a sin as harming a person.

I just hate to think it was once a living creature.

3 years ago I became vegan for health reasons and too, I don't approve of the way the animals are treated in the US. Yes, no more heartburn, constipation, etc. You just feel better! You don't need dairy, there is soy cheese, yogurt and things like that. Almond and rice milk. And eggs don't agree with me so I don't eat them. Good luck.

I watched the meet your meat video from goveg.com last year
I could only watch half of it and I was already bawling, so I just knew I would never eat animals again.

personally, it started because I couldn't afford to buy meat. Then even when I could, I couldn't stand to cook it. I was cutting a piece of uncooked steak one day and all I could think about was how much it would hurt if I cut myself by accident, and it seemed ludicrous to be slicing into meat without a second thought. I wondered if the inside of my leg looked like what I was cutting and it freaked me out. I never ate meat again. Truthfully, though, I love dairy. My poor tummy doesn't, but I do, and every now and then I have frozen yogurt because I'm only human and imperfect. I still eat egg whites, only because I am one of those people whose body probably needs meat, but I refuse to eat it. My energy level gets pretty low, and I have a lot of trouble with digesting all that plant matter. I had to give up wheat, oats, soy, and corn too :-(
