Anyone out there on a RAW diet?!
Anyone out there on a RAW diet?
I just bought a book on it and It looks great, except that it looks expensive to do it. The recipes are absolutely tasty!
Answers:
I haven't yet, but it looks appealing to try at least for a short while. Not for health reasons, and I don't see any ethical reasons to eat raw, or to not eat raw, I just think it would be interesting to try.
This website is pretty informative, more links at the bottom of the page:

There wouldn't be any additional danger in eating raw fruits and vegetables themselves, at least ones that are normally safe to eat raw, since most people eat that as some *part* of their diet, which is encouraged by doctors. I don't know the health benefits or risks of eating *only* raw fruits and veggies, but I'd imagine that you would stop if you felt ill, and hopefully have a nutritionist you would trust enough to talk with about this. I have a raw vegan "cream of pepper soup" recipe somewhere, mail me if you want it and that will remind me to look for it.
As for expense, supposedly you get full more quickly on a raw diet, so cost should go down over time. My policy is to not spare any necessary expense for food though - my health and taste are worth the money. :)
Edit: As for the body odor thing, maybe they were eating raw garlic and onion. So I guess you should also realize the choice is to avoid those two things raw, or be quite unpopular with strangers when in enclosed areas.
no never absolutley not !
I was until I became very ill from raw spinach. (Hospitalized for 10 days!!!)
Be careful! There are more and more cases of food poisoning coming from raw fruits & vegetables than from meat these days.
No-
Yeah the next thing that's going to come out is the "Don't rinse your fruits and vegetables Diet"
it will be guaranteed to work- (you'll get sick and poop everything out).
Good luck with the Die-it!!!
It is very expensive to eat organic and raw foods. I fast a few times a year and it requires a lot of water and raw and organic fruits and veggies and my pockets hurt for it, but it's worth it. You can notice and taste the difference in the quality of the food and you feel so good about yourself. You may never want to cook again. Good Luck and enjoy.
I did it, it is great. It is a little more expensive, but you will be eating a lot less. Search for Chet Day health and beyond. It is a free service and it is great. Good luck
I've known vegans who were on raw food diets and they all seemed to exude a powerful body odor. They can't smell it of course, but everybody else can. Naturally, 99% of people are too polite to say anything, including myself, ("No, I can't smell anything. Can you?") but it sure is rank. No doubt you'll be the exception, I'm sure. You'll smell wonderful.
wow, the majority of your answers for this question are rude... Not suprising though...
Sorry I'm not on a raw diet. Can you grow your own veggies where you live?... If so, maybe you could start growing your own stuff... I know it would take a little while until you can actually eat your them >veggies<, but I think that in the end, your pockets will thank you ...lol
yeah, ive been doing it for a while now
i feel much better for it, which more than compensates for any slight increase in spend on food
im quite a convert - i juice wheatgrass and sprout my own seeds and everything!
god im so virtuous lol
I've never eaten an exclusively raw diet for long enough to experience any of the proposed benefits. But I've eaten in quite a few raw restaurants while traveling. The food can be really good. I had this strawberry cashew cream pie that was amazing. And pesto sauce on marinated zucchini strips. Yum. But I think the diet is rather expensive and impractical for a lot of people. I don't really have the space to sprout my own grains, etc. Also, certain enzymes in some foods ONLY come out when they've been cooked. I just try to include as many raw foods in my diet as possible for me. Like at least one big salad a day loaded full of tasty veg and stuff. And sometimes dinner is just crudites and dips. As for the post about the spinach. That's unfortunate, but when I cook spinach, it doesn't even get to a temperature high enough to kill off that kind of bacteria. And loads of people eat spinach salad. It sucks, but that's the luck of the draw sometimes. I don't think you can blame something like that on a raw diet.. My only bout of food poisoning was after cooked food (I hadn't gotten my booster for the hepatitis a vaccine yet)--but I'm not going to give up cooking!
deegarry,
I eat about 90% raw. Buying raw foods can be very expensive. During the spring and summer I eat mostly fresh fruits and veggies, but since I live up north in the winter the quality of fruits and veggies is pretty bad. Then I use raw foods from the health food store, such as 'goraw' products. They have really good raw bars, granola and Matter Of Flax makes some super yummy raw crackers. The raw bars are about $3 a bar, while the granola is about $13 for 1 pound. The Matter Of Flax crackers are about $7 for a 4oz bag. They also have raw chocolate that is pretty good, and there is always nuts and seeds.
