What exactly is a vegan and how do you find things to eat?!

Question:

What exactly is a vegan and how do you find things to eat?

Answers:
Veganism (also known as strict vegetarianism or pure vegetarianism), as defined by the Vegan Society, is "a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude―as far as is possible and practical―all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose." A vegan (one who practices veganism) does not consume or use animal products, notably meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products. People become vegans for a variety of reasons, including ethical concerns for animal rights or the environment, as well as supposed or real health benefits and spiritual or religious concerns.

The cuisines of most nations contain dishes that are suitable for a vegan diet, as are specific traditional ingredients such as tofu, tempeh and the wheat product seitan in Asian diets. Many recipes that traditionally contain animal products can be adapted by substituting vegan ingredients, e.g. nut, grain or soy milk used to replace cow's milk; eggs replaced by substitutes such as products made from starch. Additionally, artificial "meat" products ("analogs" or "mock meats") made from non-animal derived ingredients such as soy or gluten, including imitation sausages, ground beef, burgers, and chicken nuggets are widely available.

A vegan is someone who only eats vegetables and soy products. No animal product at all. If I'm not mistaken this includes fish.

A person that consmes nothing from an animal; meat, and dairy.
Simple, going to the grocery store. There's nothing hard about that.

I try not to disturbed these people that are having a problem being human beings.
If a mass extinction should occur they won't make it.

A Vegan is someone who eats absolutely no animal products. No meat (including fish), eggs, milk or other dairy products, or animal fat. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding things to eat if you have a reasonable sized grocery store to shop at. Many things will be labeled vegetarian, but if they aren't, check the ingredient list for things like eggs, milk, and/or animal fats (lard, etc...) Be careful, because some seemingly innocent products are not Vegan, like many types of refried beans (made with lard!) and stuff like that! It's a very healthy lifestyle that requires a strong commitment!!

A vegan is someone whose diet excludes all meat, fish and dairy products as well as any food derived from a living animal such as eggs. Their diet relies on beans, lentils, nuts, seeds and soya products for protein, grains and starchy vegetables for carbohydrate and nuts and seeds and oils for fat.

There are plenty of foods they can but and eat at the local grocery store. And stores like Trader Joe's usually have special foods and products targeted specifically for vegans. Plus there are vegetarian reciepe books as well, that give detailed reciepes for entrees and what-not, to give people ideas for a menu. Hope this helped.

Before I went vegan, I would not have had a clue what vegans eat. I mean, if you take away the meat, dairy and eggs, what's left?

LOTS.

In fact, there are so many foods out there to try, you can SERIOUSLY eat something different every day of the year. A vegan diet is for the adventurous.

Do you have any idea how many different grains are out there? Beans? Veggies? It's mind blowing. And the only way MOST people discover them is when they are forced to, such as when turning their backs on animal products.

Best wishes!

I go to the grocery store or farmers market & buy Veggies & Fruits of all kinds.
There are truely UNLIMITED choices out there to eat.

Vegans do not use any animal products at all. It's not hard at all to find things to eat. In addition to the obvious fruits, veggies and grains, here is a whole list of tasty things you can find in any grocery store: http://www.peta2.com/stuff/s-accvegan.as...
