It is all factory farming these days. If anything, it just gets worse. Some of the video out there is old, but not all of it. I agree with you, I think God weeps every time he sees an animal abused like that.

Edit: http://www.cok.net/feat/paefi.php... This site contains a recent case where the owners of a chicken factory farm were charged with 35 counts of animal cruelty. There is some video also but I didn't watch it. Search for other cases on the internet where slaughterhouse workers were charged with animal cruelty. I can recall one not too long ago that involved a pig processing plant where something like 5-6 workers were brought up on criminal charges. Please don't let anyone convince you that these things are no longer done. As long as there is a buck to be made, and people who are willing to ignore it, the animals will suffer.

Factory farming still does happen, however, there are many farms that raise the animals properly, factory farms are in the minority here, so don't twist it around and get the wrong idea, and think It's an overtly common thing; It's not. Personally, I love meat, but the animals should be treated properly.

Of course they do, that's what 99.9% of the market is. If you really want to eat meat, of if he wants you to and you can go along with it, try a local farmer, if there is such a thing. I grew up in a very urbanized area, but it was still possible to drive out 20-30 minutes into the countryside and find local farmers who raise their own meat animals and their own fruits and veggies. There were folks who raised and butchered their own meat (diff types) that you could go to. If you want an overview of sustainable, healthy farming that includes meat production, check out Polyface Farms - http://polyfacefarms.com/.

Most meat on the market is factory farmed. The alternative is free range which is not necessarily that much better. That image your father has of happy cows and chickens running around idyllic farms is a very small percentage of what actually goes on.

Of course factory farming is still happening. If you need proof, find videos with dates on them from the last year or so. Good luck!

Factory farming is still horribly cruel - I'd venture to say worse than ever in many cases. If you happen to live near an egg farm or steer farm, you can see this first hand just by driving by. Piles of dead chickens on a daily or weekly basis will be piled up outside in the early mornings. These are the birds that couldn't survive it any longer. Do you ever pass the "chicken truck"? I see it several times a week on the way to the processing plant here in town. Chickens stacked in cages that look to be 12-18" high - stacked as high as a semi trailer. When it's cold, they put plywood on the outside to "be humane"... but in the summer they drive 70mph down the freeway with those poor birds crammed (probably 10 or 12 to a crate) in those wire cages. I have chickens and there's no way they could even stand up in those crates. And that's just how their transported... while they can probably stand up in their "regular" cage, they only require something like 1sq. ft per bird. So you could have a 2'x3' cage and put six full grown chickens in it. CRAZY! They also sear off their beaks so they don't peck each other to death.

Cows... if you want to see a real factory farm in action, drive down I-5 near San Jose in California. I was APPALLED when I drove by that on vacation a few years back. It's situated far from the freeway, but quite visible... down in a little valley on the east side of the freeway. This was in June, so it was already quite hot... and I saw cows standing literally shoulder to shoulder, knee deep in their own feces. I was so appalled that I contacted PETA when I returned home, but I doubt anything was ever done as I couldn't recall exactly where the farm was, nor did I have any names, etc. This was in 2002.

If we can keep full sized killer whales in glorified swimming pools and call it entertainment, why would you expect any better for our "food animals" that nobody ever sees.

Of course they do. I think your father's clock was backwards, because before they didnt do that, like a hundred years back they didnt. But now its true more than ever, in fact, free range farms are becoming scarcer and scarcer. Most people dont care. And I cant believe anyone believes in the God put animals here for blah blah blah...

Most of farming today is factory farming.
You may not want to get into a debate about this. It could be better just to stand strong and not eat meat; however, here is some info on the farming industry.
