Would you ever go back to the same bar if you were rabbit punched in there?!
Would you ever go back to the same bar if you were rabbit punched in there?
I asked someone to come back to the bar I worked at, but he called it "the pit". It was located in the heart of town, down in a basement, and was cavernous and had low ceilings, too. One night, very late when it was really crowded, he starts a fight in there and so I rabbit punched (blindsided) him while breaking it up. He doesn't like me anymore and won't come back to that bar ever again. Says, "only one per customer" to me, too, and says I'm crazy. But that's my job. I'm the bouncer and I mean business.
How can I get him to come back? He was the life of the party.

I figure there are enough erratic loose bolts like that in this forum, so I'll ask you this question.

I thought bouncers were supposed to avoid violence when possible. I've done shore patrol in the navy and never had to hit anyone.
He may be the life of the party, but a lot of times, those fun guys are also a little uncontrollable - a one-time best friend of mine was like that. You have to decide what you want in the fun-vs-risky area. For me, the risky eventually outweighed the fun part. As far as I can tell, he understood.
Yeah, "the pit", I've hung out in a few of those.
If you really want him to come back, have a heart-to-heart buddy talk with him, tell him what your position is. I'd try and avoid punching him again, see if you can just shove him under a table or hustle him out the door if things get rough, or keep a better eye on him earlier in the evening, see if you can slow down his booze intake in some way (get him some food, water his drinks, feed him sodas, have the bartender provide slow service to him...).
give him a hug and kiss and yall will make up.
