Plants have no central nervous system, and so, it is highly dubious, if not impossible, that they are capable of feeling pleasure or pain, and certainly have no concept of self. Secondly, plants do not possess any of the attributes mentioned earlier, being the ability to feel anxiety, to have the will and ability to avoid sources fo danger because of memory, etc. And anyway, even if we were to allow plants some rights, to opt to "kill" plants and not non-human animals would be to choose the necessary and lesser evil, if we are to live. If we breed non-human animals so that we murder them for food, we are killing both the animals and the plants that these animals eat
Why dont you do sumthing about it then!!!! I have taken action. I create small weapons such as nunchucks and bow staffs that I duck tape to broccoli, carrots, etc, etc. I also play chuck norris films in their presence. Soon enough they will be able to fight back with a powerful vengeance!!!!!!!!
they are 'living things', but I don't think they have conciousness, which is where I think 'rights' come in to play.

I would think so, in an opposite universe; where they were the top of the food chain. My house plants have a life of their own so I guess so my vegetable garden would also. But I am the master of my domain and no vegetable will live for long here. This year we will call our harvest the Vegacide Massacre.
