WHY should I not drink milk? (vegan)?!

Question:

WHY should I not drink milk? (vegan)?

Alright the question makes no sense but this will. I am right now a vegetarian and I don't eat eggs but drink a LOT of milk. I stopped eating eggs too because chickens are tortured (beaks cut off, beat, etc.) But I want to know if they torture cows for their milk. Does anyone know?

Answers:
As far as the torture watch this video to see how calves are taken from their mother's, fed formula until they are anemic, kept in crates so small they can't move, forced to lay in ammonia fumes and diarrhea from that diet...all to get milk from the mother (that was meant for the calf) and to make the calf into veal..here is the video

some other facts about how all germs are not killed in pasteurization of milk...

Fibromyalgia, IBS, Crohn’s and MycobacteriaTB in milk

Fibromyalgia is said to be linked to IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and spastic bladder. I have been reading questions and answers in the vegetarian section and one link suggested that cow's milk can have mycobacterium bovis (similar to tuberculosis) that can form spores that are resistant to being killed off in the high heat of pasteurization and the people on the website suggested that that may be the cause of IBS.

Here are some links.
http://www.notmilk.com/t.html (M. Bovis and cow's milk)
http://www.gulfmd.com/general%20medecine... (M. Bovis can cause TB)
http://www.pharmcast.com/patents100/yr20... (patent for a treatment of IBS and fibromyalgia with anti-microbials or protobiotic agents,etc...links fibromyalgia to IBS to Raynaud's syndrome)
and to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth...mentions Mycobacterium paratuberculosis)(interesting.... to cure a few too many diseases?)
http://focosi.immunesig.org/pathobacteri... (scroll down about 1/8 of the page down in the gram postitive section to see the links of mycobacterium paratuberculosis to milk..how it survives pasteurization and linking it to Crohn's disease and IBS)
http://www.mnwelldir.org/docs/history/bi... (pasteurization does not kill typhoid, coli bacillus, and tuberculosis are not killed by the temperatures used, and there have been a good number of salmonella epidemics traced to pasteurized milk…and the temps used destroy any antibacterial properties of milk)

Tuberculosis germs can affect or move to other parts of the body besides the lungs..including the spinal cord and brain, which is the reason why patients who test positive for tuberculosis but have no active (lung) disease are recommended to be treated with antibiotics, since the TB germ is merely kept “locked up” or under control by body defenses, not killed…

MILK: THE DEADLY POISON, by Robert Cohen. Each sip contains bacteria, virus, cholesterol, fat, antibiotics, insecticides, blood, pus, allergenic bovine proteins and powerful growth hormones.”

A reply from an anti-milk supporter, Dave Rietz:

The purpose of the Anti Dairy Coalition is to dissuade consumers from drinking milk. Why? All the answers are one either www.notmilk.com and/or www.antidairycoalition.com For a quicky lesson, though... I have taken the time to develop what follows: ******** MILK (Yes... mother natures "perfect food" ... for a calf!)

For more info go to http://www.notmilk.com and http://www.antidairycoalition.com... Diabetics please read http://www.antidairycoalition.com/011099... Here is a mini-lesson on milk.

Facts: 1cc of commercial cow's milk is allowed to have up to 750,000 pus cells and 20,000 live bacteria... before it is kept off the market.

1 liter = 1000cc = 750,000,000 pus cells ~ 20,000,000 bacteria

1 tsp = 4.928922cc 3,696,691 pus cells ~ 60,000 bacteria

1 tbls= 14.78676cc 11,090,070 pus cells

1 oz = 29.57cc 22,177,500 pus cells

1 cup = 236.5882cc 177,441,150 pus cells ~ 4,731,600 bacteria 24 oz (3 glasses) 532,323,450 pus cells ~ 14,220,000 bacteria

1 quart = 946.3529cc 709,764,675 pus cells ~ 18,920,000 bacteria

1 gallon= 3785.412cc 2,839,059,000 pus cells ~ 75,708,000 bacteria

Now... milk also has 59 bioactive hormones (perhaps the worst is insulin-like growth factor one [IGF-1]... which is identical between cows and humans, and extra amounts in our bodies might be thought of as cancer "fuel cells"), up to 52 residual antibiotics (and they only test for a few), allergens, blood, feces and the above. Check out http://www.notmilk.com for particulars... and http://www.antidairycoalition.com... for lots of additional proof. Calcium? Where do the COWS get it? Yes... from greens! The calcium in cows milk is basically useless (those nations with the highest amount of milk/dairy consumption have the highest rates of osteoporosis... to go along with high rates of heart disease and other fat/allergen related diseases). MILK: 87% of milk is water. 80% of the protein in milk is casein... better used as a glue for furniture or to fix labels on beer bottles.. This protein may, in fact, LEACH calcium from the person you uses milk and dairy... which would help to explain the high rate of US osteoporosis. IGF-1 is a normal part of ALL milk... the newborn is SUPPOSED to grow quickly! What makes the 40% of obese American consumers think they need MORE growth? They don't think anything about it because they are not told about it. Monsanto's Posilac creates additional IGF-1 in milk, up to twice as much per 12 ounce glass. Only twice as much (of a powerful growth hormone)? OK... try out some math. It takes TEN pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese. It takes twenty-one pounds of milk to make one pound of butter. Now...that means that each slice of cheese from BGH treated milk has 20 times as much of this growth factor... and each pat of butter has 42 times as much as a simple 12 ounce glass of milk. Pasteurization does NOT destroy IGF-1. If that process was truly effective, it would not have to be repeated several times before the milk gets to consumers. Where was this massive "milk is a must" before refrigeration, pasteurization and mass transportation? Back when cows gave only 1-4 quarts a day (while lactating) it was made into BUTTER! Now that those same cows have been tweaked and shot-up with Posilac to produce 50 or more quarts a day... all year long... it is suddenly (after many thousands of years) a daily "staple". NOT! MILK: What a surprise! In a short sentence, Stehpen, cow's milk is very unhealthy and just the opposite of what THEY tell us it is. Regards... Dave Rietz My response to Dave Rietz: << In a short sentence, Stehpen, cow's milk is very unhealthy and just the opposite of what THEY tell us it is. >>

How are you going to negate the FDA's allowed levels?

How are you going to refute the New York Times and separate Consumers Union findings of up to 52 residual antibiotics?

How are you going to deny 59 hormones?

Nutritional/physiological detriments
The following additional issues are often cited as warranting consideration:
Lactose intolerance, discussed below.
Milk that has not received a fat content reduction is rich in saturated fat and cholesterol, which numerous sources have suggested as contributing to an increased risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease when consumed in excessive quantity. Low-fat and non-fat forms of milk may mitigate this risk[citation needed].
Cow milk allergy (CMA) is as an immunologically mediated adverse reaction to one or more cow's milk proteins. Rarely is it severe enough to cause death.
Milk from contaminated or heavily polluted areas can contain high levels of toxic compounds that have bioaccumulated into it. The nuclear power plant disaster at Chernobyl in Ukraine spread a cloud of radioactivity that ended up in the milk supply and many animals had to simply be killed. The contamination spread across many areas of Europe and affected the dairy industries and even milk as far away as the United States had detectable levels of contamination. As well through the principle of bioaccumulation, herbicides and pesticides can accumulate in milk, and organic milk produced without chemicals has become one of the most popular organic products that people choose.
Milk contains varying levels of white blood cells, depending upon the health of the source animals; controversy surrounds whether these are simply somatic cells or, in an alternate form, pus.[9] In the United States, one to seven drops of these cells are in every eight-ounce glass of milk, varying by state, according to guidelines set up by the Food and Drug Administration and statistics reported by the dairy industry.[10] Only one state out of all fifty, Hawaii, has a cell count lower than the dairy industry's recommendations; seventeen states produce milk that would be illegal to sell based on somatic cell limits in Europe.
Since November 1993, with FDA approval, Monsanto has been selling recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST)--or rBGH--to dairy farmers. Bovine growth hormone is administered to cattle in order to increase their milk production, though the hormone also naturally fosters liver production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1). The deposit, thereof, in the milk of rBGH-affected cattle has been the source of concern, however all milk contains IGF1. The IGF1 in milk from rBGH-affected cattle does not vary from the range normally found in a non-supplemented cow. Elevated levels of IGF1 in human blood has been linked to increased rates of breast, colon, and prostate cancer by stimulating their growth,[11][12] though this has not been linked to milk consumption. The EU has recommended against Monsanto milk.[13] In addition, the cows frequently contract an udder infection known as mastitis, partly responsible for the aforementioned prevalence of blood cells in dairy products.[14] Milk from rBGH-affected cattle is banned in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan due to the mastitis problems. On June 9, 2006 the largest milk processor in the world and the two largest supermarkets in the United States--Dean Foods, Wal-Mart, and Kroger--announced that they are "on a nationwide search for rBGH-free milk [1]."
Several sources suggest a correlation between high calcium intake (2000 mg per day, or twice the US recommended daily allowance, equivalent to six or more glasses of milk per day) and prostate cancer.[15] A large study specifically implicates dairy.[16] A review published by the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research states that at least eleven human population studies have linked excessive dairy product consumption and prostate cancer,[citation needed] however randomized clinical trial data with appropriate controls only exists for calcium, not dairy produce, where there was no correlation.[17]
There is some debate concerning the amount of calcium from milk that is actually absorbed by the human body. [18]
http://www.answers.com/topic/milk...

i dont think so, but I know that they hook cows up to machines to milk them. Or people hand milk them.........but that is the slow and old way. ;)

Yes, they do. They hook animals up to a machine and pump them full of 10 times more milk than they should. PLUS, a cow, like us, is only supposed to give milk when pregnant, to their newborns. So, to keep an animal breeding, (not only for the future sell) for the use of their milk is horrible and cruel in itself.
Plus, if you stopped eating eggs because of the torture of chicens, than just investigate the tortures of cows. Chicken's aren't only tortured for their eggs.

I used to work for a organic dairy for quite awhile. The cows at our farm were treated very well. As a matter of fact, if anyone was caught hitting any of the cows, they were fired. In general most dairy cows are treated well. Stress causes cows to produce less milk, thus less money for the dairy. So most dairy men do there best to keep their cows lives happy and stress free. I can't say for certain for everyone though, there will always be idiots who beat there animals I am sure.

If it bothers you that much, find organic milk. There are some brands that are gaining national attention. These cows are not injected with hormones or antibiotics, they eat real grass, and are treated more humanely than cows at commercial milk farms. Just remember, it's not cruel or torture to milk a cow, it's absolutely necessary when they don't have calves. Here's a link to a page about organic milk. It may be biased, but it's a good place to start your own research.
Oh, and if you stopped eating eggs because of torture stories, find a local farmer who sells eggs. Local farmers probably don't run commercial chicken farms and their eggs will be much fresher than any you can buy at a store. If you have the space, you could even build a small coop and buy a hen or two for eggs, that way you know exactly where your food is coming from. My mom-in-law used to raise chickens while they lived on a farm and sold her excess eggs at a farmer's market. They still talk about how good fresh eggs are.

free range isn't a solution.

"Both battery cage and "free-range" egg hatcheries kill all male chicks shortly after birth. Since male chicks cannot lay eggs and are different breeds than those chickens raised for meat, they are of no use to the egg industry. Standard killing methods, even among "free-range" producers, include grinding male chicks alive or throwing them into trash bags and leaving them to suffocate"

" Rather than being retired, "free range" hens are slaughtered to make room for another shed of birds."

"As with "free-range" laying hens, many "free-range" broilers live in a facility with only one small opening at the end of a large shed, permitting only a few birds to go outside at any given time. "

"Even when "free-range" cows, sheep, and pigs are allowed to live outdoors, they are still subjected to excruciating mutilations without painkiller or analgesic, such as castration, branding, dehorning, tail-docking, and tooth-grinding."

"These cows, sheep, and pigs are still slaughtered in the same violent ways as factory-farmed animals: They are pushed through narrow chutes, hung upside down on conveyor belts, and have their throats slit; some are dismembered while still fully conscious."

Dairy cows are tortured too. They never feel fresh air and are given growth hormones. An alternative is organic milk from a cruelty free farm.

Everything you know about cow's milk and dairy is probably part of a Dairy industry MYTH.

Cow's milk is an unhealthy fluid from diseased animals that contains a wide range of dangerous and disease-causing substances that have a cumulative negative effect on all who consume it.
MILK'S BASIC CONTENTS
*ALL* cow's milk (regular and 'organic') has 59 active hormones, scores of allergens, fat and cholesterol.
Most cow's milk has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics (perhaps 53, with LS-50), blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses. (Cow's milk can have traces of anything the cow ate... including such things as radioactive fallout from nuke testing ... (the 50's strontium-90 problem).

CANCER FUEL
Of those 59 hormones one is a powerful GROWTH hormone called Insulin- like Growth Factor ONE (IGF-1). By a freak of nature it is identical in cows and humans. Consider this hormone to be a "fuel cell" for any cancer... (the medical world says IGF-1 is a key factor in the rapid growth and proliferation of breast, prostate and colon cancers, and we suspect that most likely it will be found to promote ALL cancers).
IGF-1 is a normal part of ALL milk... the newborn is SUPPOSED to grow quickly! What makes the 50% of obese American consumers think they need MORE growth? Consumers don't think anything about it because they do not have a clue to the problem... nor do most of our doctors.

QUANTITY
Each bite of hard cheese has TEN TIMES whatever was in that sip of milk... because it takes ten pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese. Each bite of ice cream has 12 times ... and every swipe of butter 21 times whatever is contained in the fat molecules in a sip of milk.

MONSANTO AND rbGH (Posilac)
Monsanto Chemical Co., maker of fine poisons such as DDT, agent orange, Roundup and more... spent around half a billion dollars inventing a shot to inject into cows... to force a cow to produce MORE milk (for an already glutted taxpayer subsidized market).
Unfortunately, they created *FIVE* errors in their Frankenstein Posilac (rbGH) shot that direly affected all test animals... but that important report (Richard, Odaglia & Deslex, 1989) has been hidden from everyone under Clinton's Trade Secrets act. The Canadians read enough of this report (before it was stolen) to reject rbGH for their country.
Monsanto's Posilac creates additional IGF-1 in milk: up to 80% more.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) insists that IGF-1 is destroyed in the stomach. If that were true, the FDA has proven that breast feeding cannot work. Common sense says their "finding" is ridiculous because this growth factor DOES make the baby calf grow (rapidly, as mother natured intended). Visit the Dairy Education Board at http://www.notmilk.com/deb/100399.html... to review a DAIRY study that confirms what the FDA has lied about this for years.

IGF-1 INCREASES
This study involved two groups. One group consuming 12 ounces of milk a day and the other consuming the USDA recommended allowance of 24 ounces (three cups). This report notes that the participants consuming 12 ounces more milk per day... HAD A 10% RISE IN IGF-1 IN THEIR BLOOD SERUM! Now, consider that PER DAY, from ALL sources, the typical milk/dairy consumer ingests approximately 39% of daily diet from dairy... and that 10% increase becomes the "tip of the iceberg". We have NO idea of the non-dairy versus full-dairy difference but considering cancer rates... it has to be significant.

FAT
Whole milk 49% of the calories are from fat.
"2%" milk 35% of the calories are from fat.
Cheddar cheese 74% of the calories are from fat.
Butter 100% of the calories are from fat.
Most folks suspect that butter is all fat. Most folks have no concept of the just how much fat is in the rest of milk and dairy. Perhaps the 54% of Americans who are obese need to comprehend that milk, ice cream, cheeses, yogurts, and all the OTHER products that use milk derivatives (casein, whey, lactose, colostrum) are most likely a significant cause for their weight and health problem.

CALCIUM
Calcium? Where do the COWS get calcium for their big bones? Yes... from plants! The calcium they consume from plants has a large amount of magnesium... necessary for the body to absorb and USE the calcium.
The calcium in cow's milk is basically useless because it has insufficient magnesium content (those nations with the highest amount of milk/dairy consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis. Proof? How about a controlled study of 78,000 nurses over a period of 12 years?

Cows milk has three times the calcium as does human breast milk. No matter, neither are very usable because in order to be absorbed and used their MUST be an equal quantity of MAGNESIUM (as exists in the greens that cows eat to get all the calcium they need for their big bones). Milk has only enough magnesium to absorb around 11% (33mg per cup) of calcium.
Per the USDA 8 ounces (one cup) of cows milk contains:
Calcium, Ca mg 291.336
Magnesium, Mg mg 32.794
The USDA recommends 1200mg of calcium per day. The USDA recommended three cups of milk a day only have 900mg of calcium. Some argue that only 1/3 of the magnesium is necessary. Mother nature seems to suggest it should be one to one. If the ratio for proper absorption were 1/3 magnesium to one calcium then no more than 300mg of that 900mg of calcium is usable. If, in fact, it is a one to one ratio... only 98.38mg of calcium is usable.
It is not a matter of how much calcium one ingests... but how much one does not lose.

PROTEIN
Milk can be thought of as "liquid meat" because of its high protein content which, in concert with other proteins, may actually LEACH calcium from the body. Countries that consume high protein diets (meat, milk and dairy) have the highest rates of osteoporosis.

THE 'WHOLESOME' PROTEIN MYTH
87% of milk is water. That makes it VERY expensive water.
Broken down into its basic groups... WHOLE MILK is:
WATER FAT CASEIN OTHER PROTEIN
87% 3.25% 4% 1% 4.75
(note: that is 3.25% "milkfat" which includes the 87% water.)
80% of the protein in milk is casein. Casein is a powerful binder... a
polymer used to make plastics... and a glue that is better used to make
sturdy furniture or hold beer bottle labels in place. It is in
thousands of processed foods as a binder... as "something" caseinate.
Casein is a powerful allergen... a histamine that creates lots of
mucus. The only medicine in Olympic athlete Flo-Jo's body was Benedryl,
a power antihistamine she took to combat her last meal... pizza.
For the whole Flo-Jo story:
http://www.notmilk.com/deb/092198.html,...
http://www.notmilk.com/deb/111598.html... and
http://www.notmilk.com/deb/112398.html... for the whole story.
BACTERIA
Cow's milk is allowed to have feces in it. This is a major source for bacteria. Milk is typically pasteurized more than once before it gets to your table... each time for only 15 seconds at 162 degrees Fahrenheit.
To sanitize water one is told to boil it (212 degrees F) for several minutes. That is a tremendous disparity, isn't it!
Keep in mind that at room temperature the number of bacteria in milk DOUBLE around every 20 minutes. No wonder milk turns rotten very quickly.
PUS
ONE cubic centimeter (cc) of commercial cow's milk is allowed to have up to 750,000 somatic cells (common name is "PUS") and 20,000 live bacteria... before it is kept off the market.
That amounts to a whopping 20 million live squiggly bacteria and up to 750 MILLION pus cells per liter (bit more than a quart).
1 cup = 236.5882cc 177,441,150 pus cells ~ 4,731,600 bacteria
24 oz (3 glasses) = 532,323,450 pus cells ~ 14,220,000 bacteria
(the "recommended" daily intake)
The EU and the Canadians allow for a less "tasty" 400,000,000 pus cells per liter.
Typically these levels are lower... but they COULD reach these levels and still get to YOUR table.
CHOLESTEROL
The cholesterol content of those three glasses of milk is equal to what one would get from 53 slices of bacon. Do you know of any doctor who recommends that much bacon per day?

OTHER 'STUFF'
Fat and cholesterol. Lots of it. Per the dairy influenced USDA "food pyramid" all milk, dairy and meats should represent no more than 8% of the diet. Statistically, by volume of sales in a nation of 281 million Americans, it works out to almost 40% of the diet for MILK AND DAIRY.. without the meat.
The milk of each of the over 4,700 mammals on earth is formulated specifically for that species. There are special lactoferrins and immunoglobulins (cow specific immunizing stuff) that in humans serve as allergens.
LEUKEMIA
According to Hoards Dairyman (Volume 147, number 4)... 89% of America's dairy herds have the leukemia virus. (more at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/notmilk/me...

DIABETES
The protein lactalbumin, has been identified as a key factor in diabetes (and a major reason for NOT giving cows milk to infants).

CROHN'S DISEASE
Mycobacterium paratuberculosis causes a bovine disease called "Johne's."
Cows diagnosed with Johne's Disease have diarrhea, and heavy fecal shedding of bacteria. This bacteria becomes cultured in milk, and is not destroyed by pasteurization. Occasionally, the milk-borne bacteria will begin to grow in the human host, and the results are irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's Disease.

MAD COW DISEASE
There may also be prions (pronounced PREons) in the milk and meat. This is crystalline substance that acts like a virus... with an "incubation" period of from 5 to 30 years. The end result is MAD COW DISEASE!

HOMOGENIZATION
Large fat molecules cannot get through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream. The cream no longer rises... because homogenization breaks up those large molecules into small ones that DO get into the bloodstream! This becomes an expressway for any fat-borne toxins (lead, dioxin's, etc.) into your (otherwise) most protected organs.

CUMULATIVE EFFECTS
How does this impact humans who consume cow's milk and dairy? Obesity (over 50% of Americans and rising), heart disease, cancer, allergies, digestive problems, diabetes, asthma, desensitization to antibiotics, behavioral problems, and the constant ingestion of dioxin's, herbicides, pesticides (and anything else the cow eats that is not good for any critter), that winds up getting stored in HUMAN fat... is not healthy by any measure.
Those who resist believing the truth should understand that MOST of the world's population CANNOT tolerate the lactose in cow's milk. Up to 95% of the black population, around 53% of the Hispanics, etc.) So much for cow's milk being "natures perfect food" for humans! Mother nature knows better.
Common sense question: Where was this massive "milk is a must" before refrigeration, pasteurization and mass transportation? Back when cows gave only 1-4 pounds a day it was quickly made into BUTTER and cheese! Now that those same cows have been tweaked and shot-up with Posilac to produce up to 55 or more pounds of milk per day... almost all year long... it is suddenly (after many thousands of years) a daily "staple". NOT!

POLLUTION
There are around 9.2 million dairy cows in the United states. Each dairy cow ingests around 330 pounds of feed (perhaps 50 pounds) and water (around 280 pounds or 33 gallons) per day. Allowing for the best dairy production of 55 pounds of milk per day (over ten times what mother nature designed the cow to produce) that means that what remains becomes "slurry".
That means around 275 pound of urine and feces per day... per cow, for a daily total of 2.53 BILLION pounds of pollution. Per year... that amounts to around 923 billion pounds of UNTREATED pollution entering our streams, rivers, lakes... and drinking water systems.
Cows are hot-blooded mammals. Like all other mammals they pass gas. Somewhat like elephants their compartmented digestive system is rather inefficient... which leads to the creation of MORE gas. During a Discovery Channel documentary on elephants a parting quip was that the average adult elephant passes enough methane gas per day to run a car about 20 miles.
Cows are not much better. The English New Scientist (page 5 -31.8.96) mentions that cattle produce around 48 kilograms (105 pounds) of methane each per year and that more bubbles out of the animals' manure. Dairy cows eat more because they produce milk. With 9.2 million dairy cows times a minimum of 100 pounds of methane gas per year... that amounts almost a billion pounds of methane gas released into the atmosphere each year. With around 100 million beef cattle... pigs, sheep, and other "factory farmed" animals it should not be difficult to fathom the extent of this problem.
This means that "Beef is a greenhouse-intensive food" and a major cause of global warming (with dairy a significant part of the problem).
Another major point is:
"Milk is a very strong pollutant: it is about 400 times more polluting than untreated sewage. To put it another way, 1,000 gallons of milk has the same polluting potential as the untreated sewage from a town of 7,000 people."

"It's not natural for humans to drink cow's milk. Humans milk is for humans. Cow's milk is for calves. You have no more need of cow's milk than you do rats milk, horses milk or elephant's milk. Cow's milk is a high fat fluid exquisitely designed to turn a 65 lb baby calf into a 400 lb cow. That's what cow's milk is for!" --Dr Michael Klaper MD

"I no longer recommend dairy products after the age of 2 years. Other calcium sources offer many advantages that dairy products do not have." --Dr. Benjamin Spock

I am so...glad u asked this Question!!! Ok, first of all Society has brainwashed us that we should drink "Cow Milk". The reason for them @ least is "That why cows were put on Earth (because they produce it. Well, women also produce "Milk" and they don't make us Produce milk 4 people. I mean it sorta like having "Women" line up every month milking us..Gross ha???So just like Woman's milk is 4 their children..."Cows" milk should be 4 their offspring! We as humans should't invade their bodies! Hope I gave u something 2 think about!!!

Obviously you are going to get varying degrees of answer on this. I believe that probably some cows are not treated very well - no wall-to-wall carpeting and t.v. If you are that concerned with how the cows may be fairing, switch to soy milk.

You just need to read about the dairy process to realise that drinking milk makes you responsible for killing millions of male calves.

Really, as a veggie thats all you need to know. anything about treating the cows well pails into insignificance when you realise all the unnecessary death that milk-buying pays for. To me, if you drink milk you might as well eat meat.

I own an arable farm in the middle or the dairy farming community in the UK. The cows are artificial inceminated every 10 months, far more than natural, they are bribe fed hormone enhanced food. Milking cattle give 60 litres today, in the 1950''s they used to give 15 litres. Does that not tell you soemthing ?

Think about how bad the abuse could be, multiply it by 100 and you'll be somewhere near.

You are a brainwashed idiot. Yeah every dairy producer tortures their cows, because it helps them financially to have a herd of tortured, unhealthy animals. Oh yeah, people that raise chickens waste huge amounts of time breaking their beaks off. People that make their living off of animals, work very hard to make sure that their animals are as healthy and comfortable as possible, because they have a financial reason to insure this, anyone that disagrees with this is and idiot, a moron, and a brain washed idealoge.

Well, the milk that is properly for baby calves,YOU steal!

But, my vegetarian friend, if we started thinking along those line then we couldn't walk on grass. I mean, what if it HURTS the poor little things? We shouldn't eat vegetables because how do we know plants don't have feelings?

In fact, there is a religious group in India that will only eat fruit that has fallen off a tree and never pick it. They wouldn't, for example, eat a carrot because to do so you would have to uproot the entire plant and-KILL IT

Why don't drink milk? Reasons...
1) Cows are impregnated frquently to ensure constant supply of milk, which leaches calcium from their bodies so much it causes many of them to go lame.
2) When their milk production falls, they are sent to slaughter (meat industry linked).
3) When they give birth to male calves, they are turned into veal (veal industry linked).
4) They are pumped with antibiotics and hormones to prevent diseases and ensure maximal milk production.

Also the environmental pollution made by the factory farm industrry is terrible, and it's going to affect everyone living in the world, so it's best to reduce these polltion.

For more information, you may want to read "Mad cowboy" by Howard F. Lyman who was formerly a cattle rancher who turned vegetarian. He will let u in on the beef and dairy industries.

Speaking from a breastfeeding mom point of view. These cows in order to accommodate you and everyone else, are constantly being impregnated against their will. Simply because pumping milk without the baby sucking only lasts so long. So to insure constant milk production they are impregnated almost immediately after giving birth (as in weeks, not minutes), not giving the mom much time to recuperate. Then that baby is whisked away to never even taste a drop of that milk that is going into your stomach. That's strange cause shouldn't milk's cow be for the milk not humans?? Then the poor mom is hooked up to pumps all day long, pumped with hormones to keep the milk coming while she is pregnant (or if the sperm didn't take immediately). And last, all this while sleeping in the same tiny confound location! Not to mention when a mammal is pregnant they produce extra estrogen...if still breastfeeding or supplying momma's milk to whoever, that being will get more estrogen when drinking that milk, than they should have!

no they do not torture cows for milk and theres no such thing like that everyone should drink milk to my opinion
