13 year old Vegetarian Grocery List?!

Question:

13 year old Vegetarian Grocery List?

What are some things that I should ask my mom to buy? I eat dairy, but I'm not going to eat meat. Meal suggestions are appreciated. Also, less carbs/sugar is better, I'm trying to get healthy and lose a few pounds, maybe.

Answers:
As a mom of a vegan and a vegetarian, my suggestion is to eat as much fresh veggies and fruits as you can, although morning star and boca burgers do offer protein, so do fruits and veggies. Meat substitutes like morning star and boca burgers are good for convenience, they are processed and contain lots of ingredients that you really don't need. Eating fresh foods will give you a healthier, leaner body.
Also, check out the link below for a list of common items found at the grocery store that are vegan. You'll be surprised at how much stuff is on the list.
Bean burritos, beans and rice, and pasta are all quick easy meals. My sons favorites are veggie pot pie and 'cheesey' potatoes 'obrien...made with diced potatoes, onions and bell peppers and sprinkled with nutritional yeast to give it a cheesy taste.

lentils are really good. Eggs too.
Try Tofu.
And tons of fresh veggies!!!

Why do you want a 13 year old list? Get a new one! Focus on eating healthy and keeping active. The weight loss will occur naturally. Don't expect a miracle list to show up either. Start simple with one or two products, and add to that as time allows. There is no easy answer here.

Ask for a lot of salad options, like different kinds of leafy greens, cucumbers, shredded carrots, nuts, and try different kinds of vegetables that you might like. Try different kinds of tropical fruit, like mangoes. Here's a link with different recipes you could try out. Maybe your family will like them too!

Good luck!

you need to make sure you get enough protein in your diet, being only 13 and going vegetarian is hard because you are still growing, so be careful! :) But it's really a rewarding choice when you make it.
First you need to decide if you are going to eat no meat products, or just no meat. Broth, brine, seafood, rennet (It's used to make cheese and comes out of a cow stomach, it's really gross.)

There are a few things though that I would say are vegetarian staples.
A) Fake meat-They make a ton of different types now, from chicken nuggets, to corn dogs, fake bacon, steak strips and more. Any of these are a good choice, although pay close attention to the serving sizes and fat in these. I really like tofurky vegetarian sausage. It's one of my favorite because I feel less like a outcast at the family bbqs
B) Tofu-It's a vegetarian staple, but with it you are going to need a lot of different sauces and ideas of how to cook it.
C) Iron rich vegetables, with you being so young and at a age of menstration you'll need to make sure you are getting a fair amount of iron.

Also think about trying low fat cottage cheese for a protein boost, hard boiled eggs, lentils, canned beans, and eat tons of fresh fruits and vegetables.

This website from peta has some really great info. I'm not all into peta or anything, but I still go here to plan meals, or try to find new and interesting things to eat. :)
Good luck

the morning star brands are really good.... fake meat patties, sausage, and even hot dogs and chicken.
Beans are great too.... refied beans will make a great taco and taco salad!
Veggie chili is great too~! Veggie lasagna! Cheese is healthy too!

im a 14 year old veg. and i eat a lot of morning star and boco products. its basically fake meat packed with protein. eat a variety of vegetables and salads and cheese products. but if your going veg make sure you check the labels. read whats in it or else your still going to be eating meat [like broth] and no more gelatin [in marshmellows and oreos and yogurt etc]

Ok, type "I Can't Believe it's Vegan" on Ur browser and u will se a whole list of foods and Drink! Hope this helps! !!

I don't know your mom's budget but Amy's Kitchen food products offer vegetarian options. They have soups and some microwavable meals (the burritos are quite good) and their products which contain cheese are animal byproduct free (no rennett or enzymes). Amy's Kitchen has a cheese pizza also. There may be some other options open to you depending on if you want vegan/vegetarian meals. You may have to go with your mom and help her check out the ingredients to make sure that she doesn't pick up something that contains an ingredient you won't consume.
