Easiest would be to go to your local herbalist or health food store and ask for Vitex Agni-Canthus! Don't bother with tablets or capsules, you want the loose powder to make an herbal infusion (i.e. tea) with.

You can ask at local nurseries or garden centers for the plant itself. You want the one with lavender flowers (most effective). The leaves and flowers are good for aromatherapy and the seeds are ground to make the infusion.

It's VERY effective and VERY safe stuff!!

Vegetarians do not eat fish. A fish eater is a Piscivore. Spread the correct word!

CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

chocolate. i crave for chocolate every time i have my period. i re command dark choc late.

I can't really tell you what helps, but STAY AWAY from spicy foods and cold liquids!

Bananas are supposed to help. I don't have period pain, so I can't tell you if it works or not.

this works wonders for some. take a chunk of fresh root ginger, chop it up and put in a cup. pour boiling water over it, set a saucer on top and leave for 5 minutes. strain and drink the water. some of my friends no longer need to take painkillers as this gets rid of their period pain as it has anti inflammatory properties. not strong enough to work for me but does for many. good luck!

bananas and anything else high in potassium

bananas for sure. plus yogurt.m + dont eat icecream.

Green or yellow vegetables, like squash, spinach, and stuff like that is supposed to help with cramps. So fix yourself a salad!

The chocolate thing is not a myth for everyone. It does work for many. Caffeine in other drinks helps some too. Try wintergreen, as it is a chemical relative to asprin. Some people think they need more salt, others find that reducing salt helps.

Tea, bananas, maybe yoghurt.
If you pain a lot, you should stay at warm places. You can try having a homeopathic treatment.
I feel enormous pain on the first day of my period, so I take a pill which stops the pain.
It is said that birth control pills help a lot.

drink chamomile tea,...I hear.

I have found that excercise helps my cramps big time! Just go for a brisk walk or jog. Stay away from yoga poses that bring your torso and legs above your head. Moving seems to help better than any foods. I usually will drink peppermint tea (it helps with bloating- major cramp causer). Dark Chocolate always does the trick, but I guess not for you. Maybe it didn't work because you were eating cake instead of a bar. Hmm... Try the tea and maybe some comfort food such as mashed potatoes and lentil soup. Stay away from large amounts of broccoli. Good Luck.

Avoid junk food and try to eat lots of leafy green salads. The raw food diet/lifestyle has been linked to women having the 'perfect period'. Vitamin C, for some reason (I can't remember) is linked to a big difference in period pains/cramps. It's mentioned in the book raw energy by leslie keaton (it's not a 100% veggie book, but interesting nonetheless).

Yeah, caffeine is a no-no. It's not your body that's being comforted, but your 'taste' for it, since it is addictive.

I used to have really bad cramps & bloating with my period. I completely eliminated extra salt from my diet (meaning I don't ADD salt to anything) and almost immediately, my bloating stopped occurring and my cramps were MUCH milder.

Funny thing is... it's been 15yrs almost since I eliminated extra salt from my diet and when I did a food diary for a college course a few years ago, my salt intake was STILL slightly above the recommended amount! JUST from the salt already in my food (processed, canned, etc)!

Anyway... don't know if it will work for you, but it worked great for me. It wont help right away, but try it (starting now) and see if your next period is any better. Good luck.

My mom used to allow me a small glass of red wine when I was younger and needed relief from painful periods.

No food will really help, all psychosematic sp? I would just get a heating pad, an ibuprofin, a good book, or a movie and relax! Good luck! I'll be joining you next week in the pain department :)
