Vegans--why don't you eat dairy products?!

Question:

Vegans--why don't you eat dairy products?

I'm not being rude or challenging. I understand totally if you don't want an animal to die so you can eat, but what's wrong with eating unfertilized eggs, or cheese, or milk? No animal has to die to provide that. I'm just curious & want to be enlightened, serious responses only, please. I love animals and yes, my dog is spayed.

Answers:
Cow's milk contains pus, blood and hormones. The cows are treated badly, kept in disgusting conditions. I consider dairy to be part of the meat industry, after all, when they make as much money as they do, they want to make profit from everything. From the skin, to the bones, to the brains, you name it, they find a use for it. They don't say "Ah, Daisy doesn't have milk anymore, lets set her free." They'll kill her.

If male, her calf will end up as veal. Dairy is directly linked to veal, so if you don't agree with veal, you may want to consider swapping milk with soy/rice milk.

Eggs are also linked to animal cruelty. Even the term 'free-range' is often exploited and twisted so the company can pretend to people no cruelty was involved. Male chicks are often put through mincing machines, many not dying outright.

To the meat and dairy industry, animals are not living creatures. They are 'units'. Items to be exploited. I don't want my money contributing to suffering, so I am vegan :-)

im not a vegan im a pesco vegetarian

I chosed not to eat meat because i just wanted to try it... like it really was out of curiosity at first. Then I started to enjoy not eating meat and before I knew it... 6 months had past.

now im like not for how animals are being treated but im not the peta or what ever it is called chick. So i want be like " don't eat that poor animal" actually i hate animal and is afraid if them. How can i eat something im scated to touch?... so yeah

I'm not a vegan, far from it, but the answer is that animals are our friends, not food, and not to be exploited through force feeding and the harvesting of their bodily resources.

The basis of Vegans (different from vegetarians) is that they don't eat anything that came from animals. My brother tried to be Vegan ... but couldn't do it, he had to have 2% milk and eggs. I am not vegetarian but my brother is and it's really just a personal choice. I can understand not eating red meat, chicken and sea food because it kills a life but I don't get why it's wrong to eat cheese, eggs, so forth. Some of my vegan friends can't even explain it, they just ... don't eat those things and take a lot of pill supplements to stay healthy. There is no one answer like to many things in life. Hope I helped!

Go to a dairy megafarm and see for yourself, it would make you sick what goes into milk. Blood, Pus, etc. The cows have to stand up to their knees in feces all day... That's the lucky ones, unlike their brothers who were all hauled off long ago for veal or beef., Plus cows older than 6 years all end up as beef, too.
If I had my own goat, I would milk it, and if I can find good milk, I will drink it, but the run of the mill mainstream milk is not worth drinking by anyone, trust me.

animals were made to be used as a source of food.

I've considered being a vegan so I know why. Even if an animal is still not being "killed" humans are still taking advantage and abusing the animals.

As for chicken eggs I've heard of cases where a chicken was only being used to have eggs. So they gave it hormones to produce more eggs and basically the chicken was not even allowed to get up because all it could do was lay eggs.

Dairy cows have often been killed soon after they stop producing milk. Cows are also rarely allowed to nurse their offspring and males, since they don't produce milk are many times killed.

Their more information about cruelties to animals through eggs, dairy, etc. in the source link. However some might claim it's biased since it is from Vegan Outreach.

I am not a vegan, far from it, but I have friends who are. I respect and understand that the choice comes from an ethical stand. The point is that most dairy and egg producing animals are kept in horrible conditions. Laying hens are kept in tiny wire cages that they can't even turn around in and have the upper beak removed. The statement about conditions for dairy cows is absolutely correct. Add to it that they go through amputation of teats so that milking machines fit them and, well... I only use dairy, eggs and meat from organic, free range animals. People say that is not enough but remember that we are dealing with an ethic here, the rules that one uses to govern thier own actions based upon personal moral beliefs.

Eggs scare me because I found a partially formed chick inside one once. I know that if you buy them from store they're not fertilized, but I'm still disgusted by eggs. I don't eat milk because I'm lactose intolerant and got sick from it one too many times, not to mention an incident involving spoiled milk. Everyone has different reasons I'm sure.

Some people are vegans for health reasons, not only ethical ones. Milk as it is sold today has high concentrations of pesticides and antibiotics that are fed to the cows. Some don't want to ingest these substances, which are concentrated in the milk.

I think it's because they dont like eating anything to do with animals, and would rather have them running free, but i dont know anything about it so dont ask me>:(

there are many different reasons im not a complete vegan i still eat chesse but im starting not to but if u research it and stuff like i know http://peta.org and http://peta2.org have so much information on why people become vegan and vegetarian i personaly dont think it's right to eat animals or consume anything that is from an animal like even f-ing candy has cow bones in them ( gelatin ) and cows arent treated as nice as most ppl think when they are getting milk taking from them they're hooked up to machines, chickens and cows etc.... they inject stuff into them to make them pregnant and all this other stuff and once they cant give milk or lay eggs anymore they are killed

Watch this video and you will know why. Calves are taken from their mothers and fed a formula deficient in iron that gives them diarrhea and they are kept in a pen with no room to move around and made to sleep in their ammonia from the diarrhea (all to make veal). I am not a complete vegan, just working on it.

Please quit believing the lies that are being fed to you. If the food service industry did even less than 10% of the things they are falsely accussed of they would have been shut down years ago. As for the "so called" videos, let's just say I can grab a camcorder and stage something as well.

I have been around farming and ranching for most of my life. My great-grandparents and grandparents have run a cattle and sheep ranch. I have NEVER seen anything remotely like what is described in this forum.
