absolutely.
I've never wrapped them in foil. But I do put a toothpick through them laterally, to stop the layers slipping out and falling apart when they cook. If you just put them in the pan with the other veges they'll get a gorgeous robust flavour. And your pan juice will taste really good too.
Little bit of oil, little salt and yum...
If you're doing a whole tray of roast veges, pop the onions in when your potatoes are about half done, and they'll come out perfect.
Normally when I roast garlic...I wrap in foil with olive oil and salt. This method wouldn't work with onions...they have too much water in them...they would just steam...They need to be in a open dry environment in order for the h2o to dissipate and the sugars caramelize.
I do, I put them in foil and either roast them in the oven or on the grill.
I use my smoker. Wrap it in foil with a strip of bacon around it. Excellent taste.
Yes you can, and it is actually tasty. Slice the onions, drizzle them with a little olive oil on both sides, salt and pepper to taste, or add some of those Mrs. Dash seasonings. Place on a cookie sheet in the oven on about 400, for about 10 - 15 minutes, watching and turning over till desired doneness. GOOD LUCK
yes you can wrap it in foil and sprinkle some sugar if you want to carmilize.
I think roasted onions come out beautifully on the grill. I leave the skin on and let it get a very smoky flavor and then peel and chop and add to my recipe. My favorite is a salad of avocados, thinly sliced kumquats, and coarsely chopped roasted onion. mmmmmmmm.
