In one of my last vegan questions, someone said...?!

Question:

In one of my last vegan questions, someone said...?

"But all we want is for them to be healthier, and to cut off funding of abusive farm practices." They said this in reference to people in general. My question is, if everyone became vegetarian, what would all the cows, pigs, and chickens do? I really don't think they could make it on their own out there in the wild if we weren't there to feed them and then kill them to feed us...

Clear Mascara- They would not be able to adapt quickly enough to learn to support themselves. It takes thousands to millions of years for a species to adapt. DUH!!

That is just like saying, "If we quit having cannibalism, then what will all the humans do?"

The Earth is out of balance now. That is why there are so many diseases, natural disasters, and famine. A vegan lifestyle would allow the Earth to mend itself and the world begin to rehape into its natural self.

They'd adapt... just like every species does whenever something changes! The minor problem the cows, pigs, and chickens would have (which most would argue would not actually be a problem) would be overridden by the benefit the entire world would have. DUH!

you have to remember that there is a HUGE influx of these animals because they are being bred for food consumption.. The first generation of these animals would probably roam free, but then the balance of populations would regularize itself in about 2-4 generations.. Cows roam pretty freely in india, don't they? they seem fine..

remember that ALL animals have instincts - the ones that don't, it's because of HUMAN interferance...you'd be surprised how quickly those animals will figure stuff out, anyway..

well im sure some people would use those animals for shows or fairs or somthing. they would probably get pampered also.

The earth couldn't produce enogh food to feed the world, we would deplete the soil and all end up dead.

A similar argument was used to support the claim that black people were better off as slaves on plantations than as free men and women. The same could also be said of people in prison, yet prison is considered to be one of society’s harshest punishments. Animals on factory farms suffer so much that it is inconceivable that they could be worse off in the wild. The wild isn’t “wild” to the animals who live there―it’s their home. There, they have their freedom and can engage in their natural activities. The fact that they might suffer in the wild is no reason to ensure that they suffer in captivity.

We would stop breeding them for consumption so there would be fewer and fewer of them. There are already many farm breeds and species that are near extinction or extinct because they are not bred anymore... of course they are not bred for different reasons than to stop meat consumption.

Domestic cats and dogs can survive by themselves if they have to. All animals have survival skills, so the strong ones will survive. This is fairly basic information.

POSTER:

Why do you feel the need to send private emails about your posted question?? Can't you deal with things in a public forum if you posted them here originally?? When do people show Cows how to eat???? Pretty obvious they can eat by themselves if they are in a pasture.

To be honest, given the amount of animals bred for slaughter, it would realistically be phased out. Even if every human woke up tomorrow and realised they should be vegan, it goes without saying the government wont go running into the factory farms waving flowers, unlocking cages and singing "Run freee!!!!!"

But lets pretend that did happen for a moment.

Chickens are the descendent of the jungle fowl, so even though they are used to captivity, if one generation gets used to living in the wild, then its offspring will naturally adapt. Evolution and adaptation are very different. Yep, they will be open to being killed by foxes, but that realistically is survival of the fittest. Chickens will find a way. Better the chicken gets a chance of freedom than rots away and dies in a life of cruelty and mutilation.

Cows would be fine. Rabbits live fine in the wild. Goats are greedy, will also survive fine.

People say "we can't stop eating meat or these animals will go extinct!!!!!". That's so lame, one of the lamest excuses imaginable. Any animal can survive by itself, especially in places like Europe with so much green land. If anything, there is more likely to be issues with over-population. But then, in nature, NATURAL predators such as foxes and birds of prey tend to cover this.

What man does to animal is not natural. Man's obsession with meat is quite literally, eating the earth.

It wouldn't be an issue. Even if everyone became vegan overnight, all the animals in the factory farms would die within a few weeks because they're so hopped up on horomones and antibiotics and living in such squalid conditions. They've pretty much been zombies since they were born.

Farm animals are exclusively bred for slaughter. There wouldnt be that many of them otherwise. We dont eat sea turtles (well most ppl dont) and they're not taking over the world, right? Even though one can lay over 100 eggs, nature has its way of controlling the numbers. Same goes for many other wild animals. Why do you think that it would be any different with cows, pigs or chickens? Looking at their closest relatives in the wild, they're doing just fine without human interaction.

In fact problems usually appear when humans get involved, introducing new species to unsuitable habitats, extinction of species, and overfishing of the seas. These are all serious issues thanks to humans.

Factory farming helps big greedy companies to profit on suffering, but it does not help the enviroment or those animals.
