MARS switch back to previous recipe - is all forgiven?!
MARS switch back to previous recipe - is all forgiven?
I'm still miffed that they even decided to change it in the 1st place.

I'm a veggie and i'm a bit unhappy about this...hear me out...
Last Friday, Masterfoods said they NEEDED to do this to ensure a steady supply of rennet.
They wrote to me on Tuesday re-itereating that they could not get a steady supply of vegetable rennet and NEED to open up thier suppliers to animal rennet.
So, whats changed ? Are they really so inept that they don't know how to run thier business and it takes a bunch of us veggies to shout at them to get them to do the decent thing ?
No, i still say shame on them for even thinking this was ok.
And remember they still said in thier press releases that veggies are "happy to eat animal rennet in cheese". They have shown no understanding of a vegetarian in this whole sorry saga.
remeber, this company was happy to ensure lots of animals were killed for its chocolate without really trying to find an alternative solution. Which as it happens seems to have been very easy for them to find once they started getting complaints. Do you really want to revert to supporting them ?
And also remember that they do not put "suitable for vegetarians" on thier packets so this STILL gives then free will to include animal rennet in the ingredients without telling anyone. and they can include all sorts of colouring and e. numbers without stating the source.
remeber,t his animal rennet story only came out because someone specificalyl asked then about the rennet. They would not have told anyone if the veggie society hadn't made a fuss. So, that implies that if no-one finds out in the future they will still not be open and upfront about it.
and remember veggies cannot eat mars bars until the stock produced between March 2007 and June 2007 has been used up.
I'd prefer to support companies that support veggies, not those that try to hide thier ingredients sources until found out.
I want to know why they changed in the first place? Someone must have realised it would upset a awful lot of people. Not good PR is it. I suppose as long as they switch back it OK. A bit cheeky though!!!
You can still eat Mars bars, just as long as they don't contain meat. Mars bars have always been vegan. It is okay to eat thinks with milk chocolate and it is still considered vegan. Mars uses free-range cows.
Foxhunter - Mars were planning to replace a plant-based ingredient with animal rennet which isn't meat, but is still derived from a dead animal.
It must have been financial, their original reason for switching, but my veggie daughter's delighted that they've backed down and will stay with their original recipe.
Mars received thousands of letters and emails about their decision to change to animal rennet, so I guess they calculated that the money they would save by using the new ingredient would be lost by the decline in sales.
They seemed sorry enough to me. I can't be too miffed- I'm in love with Galaxy and feel nothing but relief right now.
Keep in mind that although the decision was reversed, there are still Mars company candy bars on the shelves with rennet that were already shipped out to stores..it may be a few months before the old recipe is back on the shelves.
Unfortunately, like most big evil corporations, they don't actually care. They just had enough people yelling "lining of baby cows' stomachs" loud enough.
Even people who eat dead flesh get creeped out when they find out a company is using the lining of baby cow stomachs, which allows milk to form into vomit.
Of course, those meat eaters only get freaked out by that because they don't know as much about what they eat as we know.
:)
Anyway, I feel no need to give those people my money. I prefer high quality chocolate myself.
:)
no there t w a t s i really dont get it they made mars bars that tasted fine with no animal stuff so why did they want to kill Innocent creatures when its not needed the stupid
b a s t a r d s i seriously hope some dudes go around murdering humans then put them in chocolate bars see what people think of that!
Not really... most vegetarians probably didn't know about it. I mean I didn't know until I came on here. And how do we know they aren't going to change it at a later date.
I may still eat their food, but just occasionally. Maybe.
For me, this is a big fat no. I have lost trust now and as one person said, they don't state suitable for veggies, like Cadbury's does. The fact that they even considered it shows a complete lack of intelligence. The first thing in marketing is to know your market and they failed to do that and upset a lot of people in the process. Good bye maltesers, mars etc.
I am a vegan so I don't eat mars anyway.
2 things would concern me if I was still a vegetarian though.Firstly they haven't said when they would switch back to using veggie-rennet so how are consumers supposed to know when they will be able to eat mars bars again?
And secondly even before this mars bars never said 'suitable for vegetarians' on the wrapper as cadbury's and some other makes do.So what else is in their chocolate?
Thats the government for you they want everything to change who gives them the right to do so. Afterall this is not our planet we are just mere visitors for 70 odd years then we leave again it's wrong and immorel for us to change names of planets or anything elce for that matter.
I prefer to buy from companies that support fair trade, are organic & free from any mystery ingredients - these companies deserve our support.
