Vegans, what should I do??!

Question:

Vegans, what should I do??

Ok, this is another OCD- ish question. And I'm being totally honest.
So there's a dollar store nearby that was going out of business. I decided to go there (since they were having a big sale). I went to go look at the make up- mostly the eyeliner. While I was looking at the eyeliner, I noticed that the mascara was on sale too. I looked at the ingredients and I noticed that stearate was listed as one of the ingredients as well as one or two other animal products. I decided to buy the eyeliner but not the mascara since it had animal products.
Yesterday I noticed that my eyeliner was messed up so I fixed it. I then started worrying if it contained animal products. Then I totally forgot and put all the laundry I had just washed on my bed so I could finish cleaning the room.
Sometimes I still have some eyeliner on when I go to bed because I'm kind of lazy to get a kleenex and clean it all off my face. So now I'm worried that I have to wash all the laundry again and that there could

be animal products all around the room.

1.) Should I just wash all the laundry again?
2.) Or dont' and just keep on going about my daily life without worrying about washing my hands (because of the idea of their being animal product all around the room?)
Yes, I am OCD.

You are worrying too much.

I DO relate to you, because I worry and stress about these types of animal-product issues too. It is hard because our society is essentially hostile to people like us. It just isn't easy to do the things that "normal" (i.e. ignorant) people do.

The thing is, you are a vegan (I presume) to make life better for animals AND yourself... If veganism turns from something positive in your life into an obsession that keeps you from being able to enjoy yourself, then you are really missing the point.

Here is the thing. If you really want to avoid the stress, you just need to know you can't buy regular products. I get tempted too, by the pretty nail polish, the nice-smelling shampoo, the great sale at such-and-such store. But I don't even bother any more. I just buy the things I know and trust.

Don't even buy that crap makeup. Even if it doesn't have animal products, it has all kinds of petroleum and nasty chemicals. It is really crap.

Get a pure mineral makeup (such as http://www.bareminerals.com or you can find the same product/different seller for cheaper on eBay if you search for "mineral makeup") you can use a dark colored mineral powder with a fine line brush to do your eyeliner. I've never found a vegan mascara. So I said screw it. Who cares about eyelashes enough to kill another creature?

Stick to good vegan brands, even if they are more expensive:

Aubrey's Organics (100% vegan, wonderful shampoo, deoderant, makeup, lotion, etc)

Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap (you can use this stuff for almost anything -- just NOT laundry or automatic dishwasher)

Bio Kleen laundry detergent & Bac Out disinfectant

It is more expensive, but I just use less types of stuff in general, and smaller amounts of the things I do use. So, I don't end up spending more $ overall, but each item I buy does tend to be more expensive than its conventional alternative.

It is good to use less. Part of the vegan lifestyle also has to be limiting your consumption of useless products anyway (because every act of consumption leads to pollution / habitat destruction / less natural resources for animals and humans).

You obviously have a very good heart and are intelligent. Don't torture yourself though, you are only human and you can't avoid everything all the time. Do your best, and have a happy, hopeful attitude about the rest.

Limit your hand-washing to after-toilet and pre-food preparation. Otherwise, you are going to have raw steak for hands girl! Animal products are everywhere. You can't keep washing like that...
