Does it say in the bible that god created animals for human consumption?!

Question:

Does it say in the bible that god created animals for human consumption?

this is a serious question. my mother used to say this. but as im looking through online quotations, many quotes from the bible say that vegetables were made for humans. and also in isaih(sp?) it seems to say that some forthcoming ideal is when no creature hurts another.

basically, what does the bible say about consuming animals?

Gen. Chapter 1 - Creation:

1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which
is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

the above expresses that all seeds and fruits will be as food for us.

1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air,
and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is
life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

the above expresses that all other animals will have vegetation as food.

will answer any other indepth citation that I can't or don't have the time for. I am not a christian, but I believe all spiritual beliefs and people have some universal truths or laws of life to them that apply to all and should be considered wisdom for all.

Some people argue that a few times the bible says we have dominion over animals. Many people like to interpret this as a dietary comment...

Let me ask, our government and bodies of law have dominion over us...are they free to do as they like to us? or to eat us? Perhaps some of them would like to be =p but they are within a system of domination...that doesn't always mean negatively or painfully.

If I told my babysitter that she had dominion over my house till I returned.. you think she would interpret that as take care of it or do whatever she felt?

1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every
living thing that moveth upon the earth.

subdue - make dependent,
verb: hold within limits and control
verb: get on top of; deal with successfully

dominion -
noun: dominance or power through legal authority
dominance -
noun: the power or right to give orders or make decisions

So basically our creed was given to multiply, replenish the earth..control and deal with successfully the animals and we we're given the power to make decisions regarding animals.

None of this says consume animals, enslave them for your own gain...punish them for being alive.

I'll leave the rest upto you =)

Well it has been translated that after the great flood, Noah was told that all animals were now available to him as food.

Genesis chpt 9

1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

Personally, I think that we were given dominion over the animals, but with that dominion comes responsibility. I think that how we handled that responsibility is something for which we'll have to answer.

And you so posted this in the wrong section.

I don't think it says that. The Essenes, who Jesus was supposed to be one of, were vegetarians. The only thing I can think she might have been referring to is the part where it says God gave man dominion over the earth and animals. But it didn't say he could or should eat them. Of course there are references to eating meat, and sacrificing lambs and calves, and in fact Abels offering of livestock was accepted and Cains offering of vegetables was rejected. But that's all old Testement stuff.

In Genesis, when man was made, all creatures ate only plants (including carnivores like the lion). This is what will happen when the new kingdom is established as well (the lion and lamb will lie down together).

Keep reading, they ate beef and fish. Never saw where they ate any other animals. It says we are not to eat anilmals with cleft feet or webbed feet, That is pigs and ducks .I think the animals like to live same as we do though. So I can't see why people want to kill them, for money I guess.

If not, then why did he make them so tasty?

Romans, Chapter 14

Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

The story about Abraham and his son always puzzled me even though I'm not religious. (although spiritual). When god asked Abraham to sacrifice his son for him, and even though it was hard for the father, he decided to obey god. But then god stops Abraham from killing his son, and gives him a ram to sacrifice instead.

Maybe some people see this as a sign from god that it is ok to slaughter animals? The way I understand this story is that god who needed a sacrifice of life, let the man sacrifice an animal instead, because in his eyes the life of the ram was of an equal value to that of a human. The sacrifice was still made, and blood spilled. This was in no way "easier" for god. (after all according to the bible both animals and humans are his creations) The man must have been relieved, although in gods eyes human and the animal were equal.

Biblical stories about paradise describe a vegan lifestyle, where there is no death, not even among animals.

mrthing wins the cupie doll.
Up until the post flood God had instructed man to ONLY eat fruits and vegetables. After that he gave man permission to eat meat. Some People think that that is why the lifespan of people post flood dropped alarmingly. Mind you I guess you have to look at whether you take the Bibles' word for it. Some do, some don't.

i think so no god will ever tell to eat animals in any religion, why will god say that way, because he has created then why will he tell human to kill them

Noah only ever ate Wheat Thins and Cheese Wiz !

The bible was written by men for the control of mandkind. Quit living your life according to lies!

Adam was commanded not to slaughter any animal for food; to not eat the flesh of any living creature, whether animal, fish or fowl. He could eat only foods derived fron plants. If an animal died on it's own, however, it could be eaten. But that never happened. Later the Dispensation was given and one of the 7 Universal Commandments binding on gentiles today is "Not to eat flesh from a LIVING animal. It is forbidden to cut off any part of a living animal and eat it. An animal must be slaughtered before being eaten. The Dietary Laws (Kosher)given to the Jews at Mount Sinai, i.e. cloven foot, chew its cud, scales, etc.etc. only apply to the Chosen People and not to the people of the old covenant, the gentiles. Man does rule over the earth but the only valid text is the Hebrew, not the changed and falsified translations. Cordially, Daniel Joab Abraham.

Well, not all animals can be eaten you know. Just some of the animals can be eaten like birds, cows, pigs, chicken, sheep etc.
But in the time of Jesus, they only eat vegetables and fruits, fish and bread. Meat that time is strictly forbidden. But Philistines says that they eat meat, really. Consuming animals is strictly forbidden. But still some animals can be eaten too. See some animals can't be eaten.

Yes it does, but it does say not to eat animals that have hooves unless they have a cloven hoof, and not to eat fish with no scales.

I wouldn't really worry about that. The Bible was written by men, so they put in what they wanted. I believe in good but not in religion, too confusing.
