If lactose comes from the latin "milk" why soy milk does not have any lactose?
I am assuming that Soy Milk does not have any lactose but I am not sure about that. I saw the definition of lactose but I didn't understand those chemical terms.
The reason I'm asking is because my daughter has gastrointeritis and milk or lactose products are not recommended so we decided to give her some soy milk instead....

lactose is a sugar specific to animal milk. Soy milk is a processed soy food derived from the soybean plant. Soy milk has no lactose so it's safe to give to your daughter.

Soy milk is not milk at all. It is just called that because it closely resembles milk and is used as a substitute for milk. It is actually a juice derived from soy beans.Actual milk only comes from mamary glands of a mamal.Lactose is an enzyme found only in real milk so soy milk is a safe lactose free alternative. My daughter likes the vanilla flavored version. She is lactose intolerant and this is a good alternative even though it doesn't exactly taste like real milk.

Lactose only applies to Dairy products.
Soy, Rice, Oat, & Nut Milks are all Lactose free..ALWAYS check the labels funny things show up in packaged foods.
