Why would you eat that??!

Question:

Why would you eat that??

i was driving home yesterday afternoon and i saw a HUGE dead pig on the side of the road it was probably there for a while. the side of the pig was split open and its guts were exposed. =/
the funny thing is there were NO vulters around eating it or even circling it. no scavenger wanted to eat it.
so here is the question.... if a scavenger wont eat it an animal that will eat anything dead, rotten, diseased. why do you eat it??

This post is in response mostly to the carnivores that posted previous to me, but also includes my response and reason/s why to the original question:

No I wouldn't eat it. Or the meat that is sold in stores. From the moment an animals life is taken the regenerative qualities of its body are nullified.. it begins to rot. It doesn't matter if you place it into a refridgerator or freezer, this only slows down the process. Not to mention its filled with blood, cells, parasites, cholesterol, adrenaline and all the other hormones a creature's body uses to keep 'itself' healthy.

Our bodies have giant long intestines used to break down plant material. Flesh just sits and rots in them for days after a human has eaten it. If you want to see what your hamburger looks like inside your stomach on the Thursday after the weekend you ate it on...leave some hamburger meat outside for 4 days and come back for a peek. Colon cancer is caused by this and dairy products (over time) very often in humans.

Humans have no natural defensive or offensive mechanisms for hunting food. At best we were scavengers at one point..we have two sets of patheticly sharp 'canine' teeth and the rest are all cutting or chomping teeth. Our nails don't equate to claws and would do nothing for us. We are too weak to hunt/chase down big game and too slow/large to hunt or kill small game. Lets see a human kill a bull by boxing it in the wild..or ripping apart a rabbit with our teeth/hands. Most would give up if they could even catch one.

So the story goes we likely had such luck to obtain protein regurally that our brains grew exponentionally and we began to make tools for our lust of flesh. I'm somewhat ashamed to be a product of the same species present day if you look at the bloody past that got us here. Plants, their fruits and their nuts are the only organisms on our planet capable of bringing energy to our earth for the rest of it's life and are responsible for all the vitamin and nutrient production that keeps us healthy. Why would you choose to eat the living flesh of an animal that's gone through its life getting to that point cause it fed responsibly to keep itself healthy. You would only if you were lazy and selfish..and have no regard for life other then your own cause you would have the dissillusioned belief that blood and flesh are 'tasty' and the only reason its 'necessary' is cause you're too weak minded or naive to live honorably.

I would not...........Go veg!!!

because when people eat meat, they tend to tune out the fact that the meat on their plate came from piglet or Betsy the cow. :) i just had this conversation (kinda) with my english teacher today after he found out i was vegan. it was very enjoyable.

I wouldn't, I've been vegetarian for 2 years.

Why can't you vegans just let it go.... so someone else eats differently than you... SO WHAT! Don't you have anything better to do with your time than critique the habits of others?

People do not usually eat a pig that has been lying outside in the air, getting all "diseased"... look, if you don't like meat... don't eat it... but don't try and tell people who enjoy animal flesh that they are doing something wrong. That is the pinnacle of self-righteousness and a big reason why a lot of people find vegetarians 'weird'. I respect a lot of vegetarians (my sister is one) and vegans and animal-rights activists... as long as they don't ride my rump about enjoying quality meats! Capiche?

Well, for one thing, I don't think your example is comparable to people who eat meat, because I'm pretty sure that no one in their right mind would eat the pig that you're describing (rotten and diseased). Also, just because there were no vultures there at the moment doesn't mean that none ever came or had been there. I'm assuming you're a vegetarian (or vegan) but you didn't say why. If you just find meat disgusting, well, that's your own sense of taste. If you find it disgusting that you're eating an animal that was once alive, some people either don't think about that, or aren't phased by it (there are plenty of carnivores in the animal world as well, do you begrudge them their food?). If you oppose the horrible treatment of animals on their way to becoming food, then there I agree with you.

Or it could be that you're opposing people eating roadkill, in which case, I also heartily agree.

Let me just say that I have no problem with people who decide to just eat a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. It's your choice, for whatever your reason.

Humans are by nature an omnivore, unless of some allergy to meats. I eat meat and I do see the "oh my god you're killing animals to eat them" point of view, but I also see the food chain. Animals eat other animals to live. So in a way I think they're cannibalistic because they're eating their own kinds. Just the same as if a human (ew) ate another.

I eat meat because I always have, basically, and I like it. I can NOT bring myself to eat veal because I know how it became veal. Chicken and pork are the only other meats that I consume. I don't like fish so that's out. I don't know if that's on a vegetarian menu or not, so to speak, but I can't even fathom the smell of it near me.

I don't eat rotten meat and surely not diseased, but I assume you were talking about the scavengers there. There are people who eat raw, like not even cooked meat, just out of the package. THAT is disgusting. My food needs to be well-done, like no signs of mooing.

Basically, I like meat so I eat it. It's my perogative, as everyone has their own. But if I saw a large dead pig on the side of the road, I'd probably vomit. I guess being an animal lover and a meat eater is a conflict of interest, so be it.

because I'm not a cow

I don't eat roadkill or rotten meat. The meat I eat does not lay in filth, rotting in the sun by the side of the road, covered in maggots, flies, and other vermin.

No vulture, you say? Think for a minute...are there any vultures naturally living in your area? No? Thought so...

Wow, is this meat eaters unite in the v & v section day???
I find it really hilarious they want to come in the v & v section and harass people about "harassing" them!

Because first of all meat for human food is not roadkill and secondary now do you know that scavenger did not get to it before or after you saw it.

WOW a thumbs down for a logical answer.

The reason why I don't eat a pig that has been lying on the side of the road for a couple of days is simple. It has been lying there in the heat and there for it is most likely to be carry germs that would make me ill, simple as that.

would you eat a dead, diseased, veggie tale character if it was lying on the side of the road? THE CUCUMBER, at that?!?!?!?!!?!??!!

Pigs have been known for causing illness if eaten raw. Other animals know this. Thats why THEY EAT OTHER ANIMALS. This is why some religions and culture do not eat pork. Someone high in their religion ate pork one day and because they didn't cook it right, the "evil" was in them causing them a belly ache.

Oh, by the way, pig is yummy!! I eat the feet, the intestines, the stomach lining, the fat, the muscle and the ears. Mmm, Mmm, good!

i don't but i don't not eat meat cos it's disgusting to do it, i don't because its disgusting how we treat them before hand. eating meat is totally natural, nothing wrong with it at all, its the food chain, of which we are apart of. But we manipulate the food chain by the unspeakable way we treat animals before we eat them. I'm sure if you go back to that pig in another week or so, some scavenger will be or have eaten more of it, you just caught at a time when none were around. They're really not that picky about the quality of their food.
