The California Avacado Commission recommends the following

Soft ripe fruit can be refrigerated until it is eaten, but not for more than two or three days.

Nope, but here's a little tip for you. If they are ripe and you use them for guacamole, stick em in the freezer. When you wnat to make the guac, thaw it out and it will still be nice and green on the inside and creamy. Sticking them in the fridge will not keep them from continuing to ripen though, so if you're using it for avocado shells or chunks, best use it today!

no because the moisture of the icebox will make them rotten

Yes, but not for very long. Avocados ripen from a gas they give off, not so much from temperature, so they will continue to ripen in the fridge, just more slowly. Also, if they have been cut, the cut surface will oxidize (turn dark) in the fridge. They'll taste fine, they just won't make an attractive garnish or look good in a salad.
