Becoming a vegan?!

Question:

Becoming a vegan?

I really want to become a vegan, and I need some help.
1. How do I convince my family it's healthy
2. What do I do when I go to family functions w/ non vegan stuff (pretty much everything)
3. What are some meal ideas
4. How do I ween(sp?) off cheese???
Thanks a lot : ]

Answers:
Go to vegan websites like http://www.pcrm.org and the Mcdougall website which talks about how healthy the vegan diet is. When you go to family gatherings, take some of your vegan food with you...like make a sandwich or something that you can carry along. Meal ideas are also on the websites I mentioned, as well as if you put in "vegan meals" on search engines, you'll find tons. As far as weaning off cheese, it might be harder, but it would probably be best to go cold-turkey. Cheese has an opiate-like substance in it that may be hard to "quit" if you try to do it gradually.

[BTW, the "vegan" couple that is being tried for their baby's death did not kill the baby with veganism, but with neglect. Even the prosecutor of the case said that they were trying to justify unjustifiable actions by citing veganism when their diet had nothing to do with the baby's death.]

1. Just do a little research on the subject..Maybe print out a couple pages or so and show them. Buuut the problem with becoming vegan is that it sometimes isn't so healthy. You need to make sure you get all of your protein and stuff or you could get really sick so be careful!
2. Make your own special thing like a salad or something and bring it along, Just so you know you have that option.
3. Anything with soy (lots of protein and is very good for you).
4.Just start slowly, Like getting off of meat except it's cheese..Sort of eat a little less and a little less till your off of it!

Good luck! :)

1. First and foremost, get a physical, pass it with flying colors, and THEN become a vegan. If you don't pass that physical, don't even think about trying to convince anyone it's healthy, because it won't be.

Secondly, talk to a licensed dietician and/or physician (someone with a PhD and an objective opinion, not someone trying to sell a lifestyle). Have them explain the risks TO YOU, and then you explain that to them.

Consider finding some pro-vegan websites. Partisan websites are very good at selling things; in particular, lifestyles.

2. You'll have to accept that people around you won't be vegan most of the time. If you're concerned about food around you, and what's safe to eat, be very conscious of what things are, the very same way someone with a common food allergy would. If you're unsure, consider bringing a pack lunch, or keeping a bag of generally unperishable (or at least not until you eat them) snacks nearby.

3. Personally, I don't understand the need for "fake-meat", because it's silly to try and imitate what you abhor. So that means no garden burgers or garden dogs.

Stick to salads, bright colors, interesting textures and flavors. I'd be willing to bet there's a vegan meals website somewhere.

4. Cheese flavored products, with a heavy emphasis on the word flavored, because a lot of cheese flavored products are, in fact, flavored with MORE CHEESE. Cheese flavored tofu, possibly?

well just dont have a baby and try to make it a veagn, i heard this one family try it on there newborn and it died, and now they are getting dued to be put in jail for life
