Vegetarians and travel........????
isnt it virtually for vegetarians to enjoy travel to europe and south america because of food problems? I know it is easy to find fastfood everywhere. but many local restaurants in parts of europe and south america dont even know the meaning of vegetarian? How are you supposed enjoy the local foods at restaurants? I dont want to end up eating at a Mcdonalds in Paris!!!
Answers:
I've traveled all over Europe as a vegan with no problems whatsoever. In fact, Greece is far more veggie-friendly of a country than the United States or the UK even though the concept of vegetarianism itself isn't popular. Plus, most places you're likely to go to will cater to tourists and therefore have veggie options. It's a lot harder to get off the beaten track than you might think. Also, all of these own countries have their own native vegetarians and vegans, and therefore their own veggie restaurants. Paris, for example has loads of them. These countries also have plenty of veggie-friendly ethnic foods such as Thai, Japanese, Indian, etc. And if you're vegetarian and eat cheese or eggs, you won't have a problem anywhere.
Just be friendly and learn some of the local language so you can ask about certain foods in places where there isn't an English menu. Check out this website for loads of good info on veggie traveling, plus a gigantuan database of veggie restaurants and health food stores all over the world.
E-mail me if you have any more questions. I'd be happy to help.
Happy travels!

Well, veggies can't eat MacDonalds in europe anyway because of the beef fat in the fries.
UK, Holland, Italy, some france, greece, spain, portugal are all fine for veggies
